On March 11 Japan’s landmass actually shifted by several meters during the enormous earthquake
Afterwards a horrific tsunami struck the North-Eastern coast of Japan
Almost everything along a stretch of about 200km of coastline was destroyed
The people of Miyagi Province were dumbfounded
Hundreds of fires broke out in the midst of the flood waters
Motor cars and aeroplanes were tossed about like toys near Sendai Airport
Enormous devastation within seconds
Rescue workers face huge challenges day in and day out (in icy weather)
Searching for something or somebody amongst the debris
More than 6000 people reported dead, more than 16000 still missing – numbers still rising
One of 2200 disaster-shelters for almost 400 000 victims
Queuing and waiting for hours to buy food – shelves are emptying.
The raw agony of loss along with the trauma is heart-breaking
Thousands of people have lost EVERYTHING
Large-scale nuclear power disaster heightens fear
Radio-active radiation is at present a life-
threatening risk for millions,
many have left the country
already
This 4 month old baby was found alive after 3 days in the debris and mud...
Her family had searched anxiously for 3 days
The emergency call The emergency call from Japan is unmistakable…from Japan is unmistakable…
And in this disaster-stricken country there is only about 1% Christians. They are your brothers and sisters
who, with millions of people from Japan, need your support.
Please pray that from this misery and heartbreaking agony
countless people will know for the first time: “Suffering produces perseverance;
perseverance, character; and character, hope; and hope does not disappoint us,
because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
whom He has given us.” (Romans 5:3-5)
Thank you very much for the support that we,
as missionaries and church of Japan
have already received from you…
It keeps us strong!
