A Note from the (travelling) President
Oh, what a very busy period we are in at the moment. Leo and his production
team are busily rehearsing for La Cage Aux Folles, (more high heels,
sequins and make up then you have ever seen before!) and Brenda White
has just auditioned for Calendar Girls, the final production for this season.
We are also drawing together a range of Directors and productions for next year; I hope that when
this is released you will all want to attend a performance of EACH of the productions. That's
enough for the future; now looking into the recent past.
Lady Windermere's Fan concluded and I am sure that you will all agree that the Production team
and actors contributed to a wonderful production. Thank you to all.
Whilst numbers were small at the recent play-reading, I hear that it was a nice night with the
playwright in attendance. Thanks to Hazel Mepham for organizing the night; she is now busily
preparing for the next social event. (See further details on page 5. – Ed.)
Nash is a community based theatre and as such we rely on the goodwill and patronage of our
community. In particular I seek your willingness to promote ticket sales for La Cage please.
At the moment, I am on annual leave and enjoying the sights of Japan.
Warm regards and thanks to all.

La Cage Aux Folles, a nightclub owned by Georges, features a drag show starring his partner
Albin. After twenty years of un-wedded bliss Georges and Albin, two men partnered for better-or-
worse get a bit of both when Georges' son announces his impending marriage! Georges
reluctantly agrees to masquerade as ‘normal’ when he meets the family of the bride-to-be.
But Albin has other plans.........
Based on Jean Poiret’s hilarious French play of the same name, the multi-Tony award-winning
musical, La Cage Aux Folles is filled with singing, dancing, laughter and fun.
Song and dance and a fabulous plot – what’s not to like?
Cast members rehearsing in the Play Shed (above), photo

for his art! (below right)
Come dressed in drag to see the show and we’ll give you one of these vouchers!
The Nash Profile
The Director of the upcoming show,
La Cage Aux Folles, is someone who
wears many hats! Actor, singer,
designer and, of course, Director.
We are delighted that Leo Bradley’s
vision of La Cage is going to be fully
realised on the Nash stage – a chance
to wear all his hats at once, as it were!
Have you always lived in Brisbane?
I was born in Cairns in North Queensland, but have lived in Brisbane for most of my life.
Your first experience of theatre?
As a young child, I was taken to a production of Snow White and I saw a number of productions as
a student.
And I did a week-long workshop at Twelfth Night theatre one school holidays. I think this confirmed
my interest in Theatre.
My first on stage rôle was crew and chorus in The Sound of Music with The Ignatians.
Acting or directing – which is your preference, and why?
I always enjoy designing for theatre: sets, costumes and painting backdrops.
Being a guy who can sing, I have found myself acting a lot more than I intended.
Directing is different. I love giving people the chance to grow and develop their characters.
How important is music to you?
Music has always been part of my life; I have been a member of various choirs in Brisbane and
I enjoy singing.
It's amazing to be part of a beautiful sound.
So, Leo, if you had one wish…
Brisbane suffers from a lack of suitable performance venues.
My wish would be that every suburb had a comfortable Theatre where people could meet,
rehearse and perform.
I believe this would give our local talented writers and performers time to develop new Australian
works, and provide opportunities for people to see them.

Our recent Play reading and Pizza evening was very enjoyable as
we read Man Cave Chaos! and Elephant in the Room, then
devoured yummy pizza created by Mr Domino!
Perhaps the person who had the most fun was Dianne Wills, the
talented playwright, who travelled all the way from Bundaberg to join
us. We hope we did her proud; it certainly was interesting to hear her
comments after the reading. Thank you, Dianne, for sharing your
scripts with us!
“The four act play breezes through in an easy two hours with just the right amount of character
and charisma, never taking itself too seriously (because ‘life is far too important a thing ever to talk
seriously about’)…
…As Mrs Windermere and her husband,
Corinne Fixter and Chris Robinson anchor
the show with both their wonderful rapport
and fiery conflict. Phillipa Bowe makes for
a memorable Duchess too…
…And the writing allows characters to
engage in the most delightfully witty banter
about relationships and marriage.”
• Meredith Walker
for Blue Curtains Brisbane
“The various locations were handled well
with some very clever set design which
allowed for major changes with minimal
delays…
…The scene that really worked well was at
Mr Darlington’s flat where the interplay
between the men really brought the show to
life.”
• William Davies
for Stage Whispers
