Post said she attended the fire department meal along with DeLissa and Gonzalez last week and she wanted to report that the ISO rating for insurance has dropped from 7 to 5. This lowers the citizen’s home insurance rates. She was asked why there are members on the planning committee that do not live in the city. The council said the bylaws require 2 citizens to be on the board that do not live in the city limits. She also reported that the Library board met and appointed new
members to the foundation.Gonzalez asked if Doug
Ritter received back pay for the time he was on probation. He said he was not present at that meeting. Gonzalez asked to go into executive session for personnel matters of non-elected personnel to protect the privacy interests of the persons to be discussed for 10 minutes including Cordes and Neel, seconded by Post with all in favor. The open meeting will resume in the room at 7:56. After executive session, no action was taken.
DeLissa asked to go into executive session for preliminary discussions about the acquisition of real property for 5 minutes with everyone at the table, seconded by DeLissa with all in favor. The open meeting will resume at 8:03 in this room. After executive session, no action was taken.
The council brought up the covenants on the southeast part of town by Walnut and
Vine Street. The attorney said it is not our battle to fight. The board members for the covenant can be restrictive as they want. The city council and planning commission can approve our building permits but if there are issues between the private individual and the covenant board then they need to take it up with them.
The council discussed a property owned by Ralph Classen on E Rainbelt Street. It was brought to our attention that the basement had collapsed on the west side of the house and the east side is buckling. The council asked for more information on the building and asked to get a petition started.
With no further action to come before the council, Musgrove made a motion to adjourn, seconded by DeLissa with all in favor.

Weekly Senior Lunch MenuDon and Warrenetta Fisher will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with a come-and-go reception in the Buffalo Room of the Sleep Inn in Garden City, June 3, from 2-4:00pm. Hosts will be their sons, Steve, Manhattan; Stan, Overland Park,; Randy, Garden City and Bryan, Duncan, OK and their families. All friends and family in the Meade County area are invited. If unable to attend, cards may be sent to 2913 Windmill Dr, Garden City, KS 67846. The only gift they desire is the pleasure of your company.
Donald Fisher and Warrenetta Marrs were married on June 4, 1947, in the First Methodist Church of Meade KS. They lived and raised their family in Meade until moving to Richfield, KS in 1972. In 1990, they relocated to Garden City. Don is a retired stockman and Quarter Horse breeder. Warrenetta is a homemaker. They have 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Fisher’s to celebrate 70th wedding anniversary
I recently came upon the attached class photo (pictured left). As you’ll note, it is from the 1958-59 school year. You may have some 68-year old readers who recognize themselves.
I am fourth from left in the top row. My family only lived in Meade for about a year while my father’s company—Johnson Brothers Construction Company—was building an addition to the grade school. I recall fondly catching horned toads on the schoolyard and not so fondly the goathead stickers that kept our bicycle tires perpetually flat. We lived in a trailer court about two blocks from the school. The trailer court was gone the last time I was in Meade several years ago.
I graduated from Kansas State University in 1970 and then spent twenty years as an Air Force flight officer and then twenty years as manager of an international airport.
I would be happy to be contacted by classmates.Regards,Steve JohnsonGrand Forks, NDSteve@mid-centurian.com
