MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Happy Spring and bring on the spring buyers!

I first want to thank everyone that has attended the breakfast, lunch or Happy Hour to bring your ideas and questions to us. I truly enjoy getting out and meeting with the members and hearing about the differences and uniqueness in each of your markets.

As we move toward the end of April we will see the end of SASI and the sharing of information across the different MLS’s in greater Minnesota. With this change we are looking into other options to create a system that allows us to share information. We understand this will be a big change for many of our members and could affect the way business is done.

Member involvement is important to us as a Board. Events coming up in April include Follow a REALTOR® on April 7, where local high school students can follow a REALTOR®; Newbie Networking on April 16 at noon, where first year members can come and meet with the Board; and Minnesota REALTOR® Volunteer Week April 20-24, a great opportunity to showcase what we do outside of our business.

GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS UPDATE WHY INVEST IN RPAC? To be honest with everyone, I have not always contributed to RPAC. Mainly because I really didn't know why I should or what it really was. I just paid my annual dues and opted not to contribute to RPAC. About a year ago there were few things that didn't make a lot sense to me with proposed legislation. New septic regulations, Radon requirements, etc. The REALTOR POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE (RPAC) actually supports candidates that are real estate friendly which gives us a voice at the capitol. By supporting these candidates we also get a "heads up" at proposed legislation that may affect our clients and our business giving us a opportunity to make the necessary changes before it's too late.

The week of April 20-24 Is Minnesota Volunteer Week. We are very proud of all of you who already volunteer your time throughout the year. From bell ringing to school and civic functions, meals on wheels and so much more you've got it covered! Our survey showed that GLAR members have big hearts and are fully vested in the communities in which they live and do business.

For Minnesota Volunteer Week we would like to ask our membership to once again come together and serve those who need just a little bit of help. Can you grab a rake for a couple hours of lawn clean up? Or spend some time at the local animal shelter helping out our furry friends? Each area will have a Member Coordinator who will decide what your project will be and when it will be accomplished. They will then contact your brokerages to see if you would be willing to donate your time and muscle toward these projects. These are the specific coordinators in your area:

In this hands-on class students will learn about the different types of participants that can be involved in an electronic signing through Authentisign™: in-person signers, remote signers, reviewers and cc only participants. In this course students will learn how to effectively search the MLS system utilizing the different search options the system provides. They will also learn how to use auto-emails to automate the process of notifying their clients of new listings and listing changes. April 29, 12:30 - 4:30 Instanet - Online Real Estate Forms: Transaction Desk Lite - 3 hours CE credit

In the world of technology, buyers and sellers want to do more online. Now you can do all your real estate transactions online, save them, and even allow your client to review and sign the documents. REMINDER - It is a requirement of NAR and GLAR for all agents and appraisers to take an Ethics course every four years (2.5 credit hours). The current four year cycle runs through December 31, 2016. As of today, approximately 50% of GLAR members have NOT completed the Ethics course for this period. Make sure to check your education transcript on pulseportal.com to see if you need the class. GLAR runs an Ethics class at least four times per year, please check your Education Brochure for details. The next scheduled class is April 23, 2015.
