UNIQUE POEM ON LORDS PRAYER

Found on a Battlefield-

A composition Into which the unknown author uniquely fitted The

Lords prayer was found on a battlefield in South Carolina during the

Civil war by a brother of Mrs S B Helmor of Kondallvlllo Inn

Through an old comrade and very tear friend a copy of the prized poem

came into the hands of MaJ John W Russel of Denver who loaned It to

The Post Major Russol values this composition very highly notonlybo

cause of its historic features but also on account of Its worthy and

beautiful sentimentThe original of this poem Is printed on heavy satin and is regarded as

a literary curiosity It bears tho interesting date of July 4 1823

Thou to the mercyseat crtir souls doth gatherTo do our duty unto Theo Our Father

To whom all praise all honor should be givenFor Thou art the great Qod Who art In Heaven

Thou by Thy wisdom rulst the worlds whole fameForevor therefore Hollowed be Thy Name

Lot never more delays divide us fromThy glorious grace butlot Thy kingdom como

Let Thy command opposed be by noneBut Thy good pleasure and Thy will bo done

And let our promptness to obey be ovenTlio very same On earth as tis In Heaven

Then for our soujs 0 Lord we also prayThy wouldst be pleased fo Give us this day

The food of life wherewith our souls are fedSufficient raiment and Our daily bread

With every needful thing do Thou relieve us

And to Thy mercy pity And forgive us

All our misdeeds for Him whom Thou didst pleaseTo make an offerIng for Our trespasses

And forasmuch 0 Lord as we believeThat Thou wilt pardon us As wo forgive

Lot thirst love teach wherewith Thou dost acquaint usTo pardon all Those who trespass against us

And though sometimes Thou findst wo have forgotThis love to Theo yet help And lead us not

Through soul or bodys want to desperationNor lot earths gain drive us Into temptation

Let not tho soul of any truo believerFall In the time trial But deliver

Yea save them from the malice of the devilAnd both in life and death keep Us from evil

Thus pray we Lord for that of Theo from whomThis may bo had For Thine Is the kingdom

This world is of fhy work its wondrous storyTo Thee belongs The power and the glory

And all Thy wondrous works have ended neverBut will remain forever and Forever

Thus we poor creatures would confess againAnd thus would say eternally Amen
