Stewart Olympics Stewart Elementary comes together every year in the remarkable celebration known as the Stewart Olympics...it's the annual sports event and celebration of different countries including our own US of A. This year featured many new countries like Russia, Kenya, Fiji and Costa Rica. The decorated doors of the classrooms were so imaginative. This year the Girl Scout color guard had the honor of raising
the flag as hearts and voices joined in the Pledge of Allegiance and in the National Anthem sung by Mrs. Lloyd, our music teacher. The athletes are always the center of attention at the Olympics, and Coach Morange's Runners Club ran the mile in record time. Olympic games occurred all day long in back of the school during specials periods. Thanks to Coach Morange and all his parent, staff and student helpers.

Dear Parents,
We have had an awesome school year at Stewart E lementary. I want to sincerely thank all of our parents who volunteer their t ime and support our school to help mak e Stewart E lementary the great school that it is.
Our biggest event of the year, our annual Auct ion and Dinner just wrapped up and it was a big success due to the diligence of the auct ion committee and support of our parents and staff .
For the f irst t ime ever, the event was sold out ahead of t ime. It was a beaut iful evening under the stars and the barbeque dinner was delicious. The weather was perfect for dinner and dancing with a great DJ. The biggest bonus was the money that was made for the needs of our school. F inal count is not in yet , but it was over $20,000.
I would lik e to thank the auct ion committee for their count less hours of hard work and all of our Stewart families that supported the auct ion, whether it was a classroom project or by being there in person at the auct ion. I am also grateful for all the wonderful donat ions from businesses and individuals.
I hope that you have a safe and restful summer and enjoy quality t ime with your family.
Thank you again for all your support!
Sincerely,
Jack ie F eatherston Principal Stewart E lementary School 941-741-3176 ex t . 2001
A Message From Our Principal
Mystery Stewart Star Staffer I was born in Sellersville, PA and lived there for 21 years. In 1972 I moved to Bradenton and have lived here ever since. I have worked at Stewart for 23 enjoyable years. I just love working with my team and the kids! I love to scrapbook, camp and anything outdoors. My favorite hobby is shopping with or without my girls. My favorite food is seafood shrimp or lobster. I love the new show Revenge, Dancing with the Stars and American Idol, of course.
A lot of people are surprised to hear I have 6 super grandkids---love them all. You might also be surprised to learn that I love music and dancing. Can you guess who I am? Answer on page 8.
Parents and Staff,
Thank you for all your support in collecting Capri Sun pouches for our school. The students have been so good about bringing them in to school. The money we collect is a bonus for our school funds. Please keep up the great job. Also if you have to cut them open for your child, please try to cut as near to the top as possible. If they are cut down by the words they cannot be used. Ultimately, products like tote bags, lunch boxes, pencil cases and backpacks are made from the pouches that otherwise would have gone to landfills.
We have received $500 to date.
Thanks again,
Mrs. Herdman
P.S. If you want to continue collecting throughout the summer, you can contact me at 840-3181 to pick them up.

Tropicana Speech Contest Fourth and fifth graders at Stewart Elementary took part in the Annual Tropicana Speech Contest which is a county-‐wide contest sponsored by Tropicana. Participants write and present their own two to three minute speeches on a topic of their choice and are graded on their performance. The three finalists from the fourth grade were Mia Johnson, Sabrina Koshedub-‐Colaco and Andrew Seeger. The finalists from the fifth grade were Annabel Henson, Erin Painter and Jayne Rivera. First place at Stewart Elementary School this year went to Erin Painter for her speech entitled "Fifth Grade, the Final Chapter". She won the right to compete at the District Tropicana Speech Competition and represented Stewart Elementary against approximately thirty-‐two other students from schools district-‐wide.
Stewart Float Wins Parade Thanks to first-‐time parade chairperson Beverly Burdette and her committee, our school won 1st place and a check for $1,000 at the De
, which Community
. The idea for the float was based on the song
Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole tree then adding more leaves that were made of cut-‐outs of every child in the school. After the float was dismantled, the pink Tabebuia tree was planted in front of the school for Arbor Day by the Operation Stewart children in honor of our Stewart military. Many thanks to all the Stewart families and staff that helped build the float and walk the parades!

Parting Thoughts From Our Fifth Graders At Stewart
Charnay Days and Lanyia Bradshaw We are really going to miss Mrs. Hasty and all our friends at Stewart. funny comments! funny jokes and doing I-‐movie and photo booth in the computer lab. Painting in art class with Mrs. Gallery was a blast. Doing cartoons and working with clay was our favorite. We will both be going to M.S.A. next year, but Stewart will live on forever in our memories. Lily Stenberg and Nezleen Capiz We are going to miss our friends, our teachers and having recess every day. We loved doing creative art projects with Mrs. Gallery and playing the piano in music. Going skating with 5th grade at Astro Skate was awesome. We had such a good time being free and doing whatever we wanted. Our Christmas party was awesome, we loved the celebration with friends
forget all the fun activities we did in the computer lab with Mrs. Leppek. our teacher, Mrs. Hasty!
Alexa Cason I will always remember my friends and teachers that I had at Stewart. The Olympics were a blast because we learned about so many different countries. Our class was Egypt and we had so much fun drawing ourselves as pharaohs. We learned some Egyptian words and wrote our names in hieroglyphics. Our field trip to Astro Skating rink was so fun, having pizza and skating with our friends. I had Mrs. Butler and she helped me so much with my reading. Evan Sharff and Ruth Espinoza Evan will miss his friends from Stewart who are going away to other schools. Ruth will miss all of her teachers, especially Mrs. Jones. We had many fun field trips in fifth grade, especially Bounce U. The responsibility of being a patrol was an awesome experience in fifth grade. We learned how to help others and keep the school safe. It's going to be hard not to have recess every day. Ruth will miss her friends that she leaves behind at Stewart. Ruth and Evan both think they are ready for the challenge of middle school.
"I'm going to miss all of my friends when I go to middle school." -‐ Destiny Sullivan "My fondest memory at Stewart is when I dressed up in a Ukrainian outfit for the Olympics." -‐ Jackie Oshaben "My fondest memories from Stewart will be all about the good times I had with my friends." -‐ Amanda Sommers
"One of my fondest memories at Stewart is the first time I was actually able to work the Stewart Olympics." -‐ Nick Ananicz "One of my fondest memories at Stewart is when I met all of my fifth grade teachers." -‐ Jada Termeer

Girl Scouts at Stewart Girl Scout Troop 741 painted a wonderful mural
for Stewart Elementary at the cafeteria side entrance. They first designed it, then our trusty Elmo projected the drawing on the wall, it was traced out and then the girls painted their underwater scene.
The day after they finished the mural it was time to go to Lowry Park Zoo for an over-‐night sleep-‐over adventure with the manatees. This was their chosen annual reward for working hard sell ing Girl Scout cookies. That same weekend,
They were Caylie Gerhart, Megan Gourlay, Annabel Henson, Emma Johnston, Jackie Oshaben, Olivia Scheimann, Lacey Smith, and Janesse Fritzmeier. Unfortunately, a few of the girls were unable to be at the ceremony.
It has been a great year and the troop has accomplished so much. We wil l miss our current 5th graders. But as we say in scouting... We will make new friends, but keep the old. One is si lver and the other gold!
Brownie Troop 71 enjoyed a fun day together at Clearwater
made famous by the recent movie Dolphin Tales. The aquarium is a marine hospital whose goal is to rescue, rehabilitate and release marine animals that are sick or injured. The scouts had fun learning about many species of marine wildlife including: dolphins, otters, many varieties of turtles, sharks and stingrays just to name a few. The second part of the troop trip was a marine sea l ife boat tour. During the tour the girls took part in a fun, educational and interactive nature cruise. Stewarthave had a busy year and are looking forward to finishing the year at the Girl Scout Service Unit Bridging Ceremony that will take place at GT Bray on May 24.
Find out more about Girl Scouts! It is 2012 and our 100 year anniversary. It is the "Year of the Girl"! For more information about becoming a Troop Leader, starting a troop or joining an existing troop, contact Roberta Rodgers, Membership Specialist for Manatee County, at robertar@gsgcf.org or 941.921.5358 ext. 319. Thank you for supporting Girl Scouts!
