1. Programs Update (Cooper)

Fall 2011- Upcoming Programs

September – Sue Nolan

Sue Nolan is an Instructional Designer at TD Bank in Portland, ME, is a certified Synchronous Learning

Expert. Sue has designed, developed; and delivered virtual classes; led a virtual study group; and is a

contributor to TD facilitator’s Community of Practice.

Skill Building: Online Facilitation

If you’ve not been asked to facilitate online yet, it’s just a matter of time. Virtual meetings,

presentations, and learning events are increasing in today’s world of saving money and the

environment. Online delivery has grown so rapidly that many facilitators are learning as they go – with

mixed results. This session will explore the importance of preparation, social presence, and

engagement to help you facilitate successful online events.

October – Barbara Babkirk

Barbara is a Master Career Counselor and Certified Third Age Coach with a record of success guiding

transitions to satisfying work for individuals ranging from executives and attorneys to artists and

entrepreneurs. With specific expertise on the issues and challenges relating to the second half of life, Barbara

often speaks publically on topics related to work and meaning.

It is all about Meaning: Engaging Employees in their Second Half of Life

In this workshop, ASTD professionals will learn the key issues and motivators of the significant second

half of life population. Understanding the current research on what motivates and engaged them will

create a win/win for employees and companies.

November – Joseph Foran

Joe is an executive coach and team coach, facilitator, and trainer. His coaching and consulting is informed and

enriched by the insights and experiences he gained from service as Deputy Chief of Staff of a major federal

agency, Practice Group Leader for a global engineering firm, and founder and President of a high-tech

business, among other management roles.

Group Coaching: Turning Teams Full of Talent Into Talented Teams

Maine ASTD Board Meeting - Minutes

June 6, 2011

Teamwork and group activity are almost universal in today’s organizations. Yet more often than not,

groups and teams operate less than optimally and are often a continuing issue for HR and OD

departments. This presentation will explore styles and offer training professionals a new perspective

on what they can do to make groups and teams an ongoing source of strength for their organizations.

3. Special Project – Creating ME ASTD Operation Procedures Manual (Page)

Not covered. Katie to meet with Peggy to get project information and any templates. Project to continue in

2011-2012 with Board.

4. Technology / Website Update (Davis)

Full cycle

We have completed cycle (September - June) with Wild Apricot as our web service. The majority of web activity being

around Events and Job Posting.

For Events, we explored and added two different event types:

1. Event notification without registration (New England Conference).

2. Event notification and registration for Members only (Members Only Webinar).

With completing a full cycle, we are in a good position to start exploring other uses for the web and means of support

for specific operations (Membership, Communication...).

Documentation Location

A technology goal is to explore documentation storage as both a Board resource and a work space. Two of our options

being Google and Wild Apricot. We have a Google account set up as an email host (gmail) and as an option for

workspace. This is not the best option as Board members may not have access from a work location.

Update: A Board Member section is now available on the Wild Apricot Maine ASTD site. This section is available to

Board members only and requires log-in. As we start to create Standards, this is a section we can house materials

(Standards, resources, templates...)

To Do: Experiment with Board member access to determine if this space will be for 'working' or specific for 'completed'

documents.

Documentation Standards

Based on National standards, we have a few header/footer options for designing templates. Attached are samples to

help determine template design for Board minutes and Standard Practices.

(See attached file: Sample (Header).doc)(See attached file: Sample

(Footer).doc)

Board Member Forum

With the addition of a Board Member section, a forum (discussion board) is also now available. A mock/experiment

forum is listed for us to 'play around with' to determine our best use of a forum.

Summer homework for Board Members: Go and check it out! And post a comment!

5. Finance Report – Expenses vs. Budget Update (Wilson)

Attached - Actual vs Budget report through the month of May. Our expenses are under budget but we are off with our

income vs budget. I don't think we have much of an opportunity to generate more income at this point of the event

calendar but I think we can put some strategies for the new event year to generate more income. Raising the breakfast

meeting fee would be one way.

6. Publicity & Sponsorship Update (Lee)

Publicity – continuing to send out monthly press releases to local media (see attached media contact list.)

Sponsorship:

1. Continuing to follow-up on the leads with email and phone calls, but no interest yet.

2. Contacted heads of sponsorship from 3 other ASTD chapters who have a goodly number of sponsors for their

insights. (Houston, Maryland, and one other but forget chapter name)

7. End of Year Wrap Up & Next Year Planning (Vaillancourt)

- ASTD Chapter Leader’s Conference – October 14-15, 2011

For the past 3 years the Maine Chapter has sent 1 representative to this meeting.

2008 – Wandy Browne

2009 – Peggy Page

2010 – Katie Vaillancourt

Highly recommended by both National and past ME Chapter participants. Would like to get to the point where the

entire board and/or new board members get to attend. This is a longer-term financial goal. Hope to send at least 1

member in October 2011 to meeting. See details. All Board is welcome but would have to pay on their own. To discuss

more at August Workshop Meeting.
