Los Verbos Reflexivos

Los verbos reflexivos

Used to describe people doing things for themselves. In English, these are actions such as brushing one’s teeth, combing one’s hair, showering oneself.

You have already seen one reflexive verb before in a few of its forms….

Reflexive Pronouns

Notice that the SUBJECT (yo) the verb (ending in O) and the ME (reflexive pronoun) are all in the same form, describing the same person.

Ex: I wash MY face. = Me lavo la cara.

I wash my faceMe lavo la cara

We wash our facesNos lavamos las caras

You still have to conjugate the verb to fit with the subject. With reflexive verbs, there are two things that always match: What is the rule?•*The ____________ and the _____________ always match.

You wash your face = Te lavas la cara.(-AS ending because it’s “you,” TE because you do it to yourself)

ending of the verb reflexive pronoun

Placement of the pronouns will be either BEFORE THE CONJUGATED VERB or ATTACHED TO THE INFINITIVE: DESPERTARSEWe wake up. – Nos despertamos.• We are going to wake up. Vamos a despertarnos.NOS vamos a despertar.

Mi rutina diaria:• Bañarse = ____________________• Lavarse = ____________________• Despertarse (e->ie) ____________________________• Levantarse = __________________________________• Acostarse (o->ue) __________________________• Dormirse (o->ue, u) _______________________________• Morirse (o-ue, u) ________________________________

Mi rutina diaria:• When conjugating the reflexive verb, form the “se” to match

the verb (yo is me, etc), then put the reflexive pronoun BEFORE the conjugated verb. bañarse

• I bathe =Me baño . I bathed =Me bañé• He bathes se baña_• He bathed _se bañó__• All of you wash yourselves _______________• You all washed yourselves ____________________• We get up (out of bed) ________________________ • We got up _______________________

• If you have two verbs in the sentence, you have two possible places to put the reflexive pronoun: (2 verbs, 2 ways)

• BEFORE the conjugated verb (Me voy a bañar = Myself I am going to bathe).• OR ATTACHED to the infinitive• ( still has to match the person = Voy a

bañarme= I am going to bathe myself)

1. She is going to get up (out of bed) =_____________________________________________

OR ___________________________________________

2. The children have to get up (out of bed) = ___________________________________________OR __________________________________________

3. We have to bathe (ourselves) _____________________________________OR

_______________________________________4. The students wash themselves

____________________________. Entonces ____________________________________. Luego, __________________________.
