Dear Sisters and Brothers in the
Lord,
Sunday, February 7, 2021 was a
day of celebration and thanksgiving
here at St. Joseph. We as a church
family were able to give thanks to our
loving God for the life and ministry
of our late brother Wylie Gene
Howell on the day of his birth into
this world. Let us keep our brother in
our thoughts and prayers.
Rest In Peace, Wylie Gene Howell!
Today our Church celebrates the
Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time.
This Wednesday, February 17, is
Ash Wednesday, the start of the holy
season of Lent. Masses will be
celebrated on this day at St. Joseph at
12:30 and 6:00 PM.
For the next forty days we are
called to listen to God’s direction in
the silence of our hearts as we pray,
fast, and give alms.
We will be using The Little Black
Prayer Book throughout this Lenten
season. There are copies of this book
available on the ushers’ table, or you
can call the parish office to have a
copy mailed to you. We are asking
everyone to make a donation to cover
the cost of these prayer books and
their postage.
The focus of the readings today
tells us that Jesus wants to heal us of
anything that causes us separation or
broken relationships.
Let us keep each other in our
prayers.
Yours in Christ,
Father Rey

Making Clean
Jesus was not afraid to touch the
untouchable leper today. Jesus was
unafraid to be cleaning and healing and
teaching – right and good behav-
iors. Saint Paul makes a clear implica-
tion for all of us. Our task: imitating
Christ. Our task: doing all things for
the glory of God.
• What mercy works of cleaning and
healing can I do this week?
• What will I do, seeking not my
own benefit but that of another
• How will I be like Christ to-
day? Tomorrow? Next Week?

Lenten Reminders—Fast and Abstinence
Ash Wednesday, February 17, and Good Friday, April 10, are
days of abstinence from meat and also days of fast, that is, limited
to a single full meal. The other Fridays of Lent are days of
abstinence from meat. The law of abstinence binds all Catholics
14 years and older. The law of fasting binds all Catholics from
their 18th birthday until their 59th birthday (canons 97, 1252). “Let the paschal
fast be kept sacred. Let it be celebrated everywhere on Good Friday and, where
possible, prolonged throughout Holy Saturday, so that the joys of the Sunday of
the Resurrection may be attained with uplifted and clear mind.” (Constitution
on the Liturgy, No. 110) Fast and abstinence on the days prescribed should be
considered a minimum response to the Lord’s call to penance and conversion.
Collection to Support the Church in
Central and Eastern Europe
This week, on Ash Wednesday, we will be
collecting to support the Church in Central and
Eastern Europe. Your donation today helps
restore the Church and build the future in more
than 20 countries still struggling to recover from
Communist rule. Funds from this collection
support reconstruction, education, formation, and
poverty outreach. Please be generous. For more
information, please visit www.usccb.org/ccee.
Father of goodness and love, hear our prayers for the sick members of our
community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may
they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you close
wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits. May
these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking
you for all your gifts. We ask this through the Lord Jesus who healed those who
believed. Amen.
Hear Our Prayer
Prayer for Vocations
Almighty Father: You have created
for us some definite purpose. Grant
us the grace to know the path You
have planned for us in this life and
to respond with a generous “Yes.”
Make our archdiocese, parishes,
homes and hearts fruitful ground for
Your gift of vocations. May our
young people respond to Your call
with courage and zeal. Stir among
our men a desire and the strength to
be good and holy priests. Bless us
with consecrated religious and those
called to a chaste single life,
permanent deacons, and faithful
husbands and wives, who are a sign
of Christ’s love for His Church. We
commend our prayer for vocations
to You, Father, through the
intercession of Mary our Mother, in
the Holy Spirit, through Christ our
Lord. Amen.

The Little Sisters of the Poor
Letter From Sister Katherins Isp
Donation Director of the Little Sisters of the Poor Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph Church,
In the name of all the Little Sisters of the Poor, I am writing this letter to you!
Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to come and visit your parish asking for
your financial assistance as we have in other years! I would like to thank your pastor
for allowing us to send this note via the bulletin or to read it to you! The question of
how to communicate with you has come up for us mainly because of the Covid-19
restrictions that are in place. The parishes also have new recommendations, which
are so different from the normal times for your parish.
Our Superior suggested that we write this letter, since it is too early for us to go out
to the parishes, considering that we have the elderly in our care and regulations from the state as well to follow. As we are a
nursing home we have not received permission from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) or the CMS (Center for
Medicaid and Medicare Services) to leave our facility, or have persons come in, to minimize any contact with the virus for
the Residents!
We have always been so very grateful to the Archbishop and pastors of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, permitting us to
beg at the doors of the churches! Throughout the years, we have referred to Church Collections as our “Bread and Butter”,
which support our Home.
As a reminder of our mission, we, the Little Sisters of the Poor, have the privilege of caring for the Elderly Poor, in the
spirit of humble service, which we have received from Our Mother Foundress, St. Jeanne Jugan. We welcome the elderly as
we would Jesus Christ himself and serve them with love and respect. We receive those of lowest income, of any race or
religion. St. Jeanne Jugan wanted to have a family-like atmosphere in our Homes. As a large family, we celebrate life. The
highlight of our respect for life until its natural ending is when we keep vigil with the Residents, accompanying them over
the threshold of eternity.
An important part of St. Jeanne Jugan’s mission was to involve others in her work. We are very grateful for your
financial help in other years. We are also aware also that many of you may have suffered financially during this pandemic and
may not be able to help us this year and we understand! We want to let you know that we are praying very much for you and
your families! If you cannot help us financially, we will be grateful for your prayers as we continue our way during this
painful experience!
Thanking you again and assuring you of our prayers.
Sincerely,
The Little Sisters of the Poor
The First Four Days of Lent
These days serve as an introduction to our Lenten journey. Before we begin the
first full week of Lent, we have a powerful set of readings about our Prayer,
Repentance, Almsgiving and Fasting. We place ashes on our foreheads and
learn about the meaning of death and life. Over two days we pray over the
powerful challenge of Isaiah 58. And Jesus reminds us that he is inviting us to a
"change of heart."
Rice Bowl
Each Lent, Catholic families across the country unite to put their faith into
action through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through CRS Rice Bowl, families
learn about how our sisters and brothers across the globe overcome hardships
like hunger and malnutrition, and how through Lenten alms, we have the power
to make the world a better place for all. Your Lenten alms change lives globally
and in your own community. Your donations help provide lifesaving support to more than 159 million people in
more than 100 countries. For more information about the rice bowl program, please go to https://
