Smith & Wesson handguns are well known for
their durability and dependability. The controlled
processes required to improve and enhance
the physical properties of our components are
performed in our “state of the art” Heat Treat area.
Each process is electronically controlled to insure
your specific requirements are met. The equipment
allows a wide variety of processes to be performed
while minimizing distortion. We also offer a
variety of controlled quenching atmosphere
processes such as:
Oil
Nitrogen
Vacuum
Salt
Water
Our inspection area is able to verify hardness
requirements but our in-house, full Metallurgical
Laboratory will verify more critical perimeters,
whether it is superficial hardness testing to tensile
testing. Our staff Metallurgist can help review
your heat-treating inquires and offer solutions to
your needs.
Capabilities: Annealing, Hardening, Austempering,
Normalizing, Aging, Bright Hardening, Cryogenic
Freezing, Precipitation Hardening, Brazing, Carburizing,
Case Hardening, Bright Annealing and Stress Relieving.

The fundamental strength of our handguns is
derived from the forgings used in Smith & Wesson
products. We have perfected the “state of the art”
to design and produce more near net shaped
forgings, minimizing excess material. Our skilled
die makers review each customer’s special
requirement, specifying the most effective die
layout and determining the most efficient size
and type of forging equipment to be utilized.
The die makers oversee the manufacture of the
forge, trim and coin die sets from design through
first piece acceptance. Once into production,
the dies are maintained on a routine basis.
Our process capabilities run from small parts
that weigh only a few ounces to 20 lb. parts.
Components with lengths of 15 inches are within
our scope, utilizing Drop Hammers ranging in size
from 1,500 lbs. to 5,000 lbs. A 1,500 ton Press
is used to handle Aluminum and Scandium
requirements. We have a variety of mechanical
presses for cold and hot trimming.
Small lot quantities are a specialty. Send your
requests for our review and immediate response.
Materials: Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Alloy
Steel, Aluminum and Scandium.
