Jazz 91.9 WCLK will celebrate its 40th
Anniversary with an elegant evening on Friday, May 9, 8:00 p.m. at Cobb Energy
Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta featuring Jazz Icon George Benson. Tickets are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets. Click here to reserve your seats.
The evening kicks off in grand style with a
Jazz Legacy and Community Honors Awards Gala from 6:00 p.m.
until 7:30 p.m., also to be held at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre before the signature concert with George Benson. WCLK will salute the
people, places and organizations that have contributed significant resources to help preserve the legacy of Atlanta’s longest running Jazz
station and its mission to uplift Jazz, the music, artists and culture…as well as its tradition of public service.
The Legacy Dinner is a corporate sponsored event with partial proceeds benefiting two important initiatives for WCLK in 2014. The Jazz in the Classroom education
project now in its 12th year and Expanding the
Call to True Beauty, supported by Verizon Wireless, a domestic violence awareness and prevention program.
Expanding the Call to True Beauty is a new radio show on WCLK, beginning in April 2014.
The dinner guests will be serenaded with special
Jazz performances from Vocalist Dianne Reeves. A VIP reception is also
planned with music by the Clark Atlanta University Jazz Sextet.

Marcus Printup who was born and raised in Conyers, Georgia, had his first musical experiences hearing the fiery Gospel music his parents sang in church, and would later discover Jazz as a senior in high school. While attending the University of North Florida on a music scholarship, he won the International Trumpet

Guild Jazz Trumpet Competition. In 1991, Mr. Printup's life changed drasti-cally when he met his mentor to this day, the great pianist Marcus Roberts. Mr. Roberts introduced him to Wynton Marsalis, which led to his induction into the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in 1993. Mr. Printup has performed and/or recorded with Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves, Eric Reed, Cyrus Chestnut, Wycliffe Gordon, Marcus Roberts among many others. Mr. Printup has several records as a leader, Song for the Beautiful Woman and Unveiled, just to name a few. Mr. Printup is in demand as an educator.
