ACE-IT Best Practice Guide

Preliminary Findings:

• Encourage post-secondary institutions to to reserve seats for ACE-IT students in high-demand trades.

• Encourage school districts to divert students to post-secondary institutions if this is an option.

• Where delivering the program solely at a post-secondary institution is not an option, encourage secondary schools and post-secondary institutions to develop hybrid models or share instruction.

• Encourage ACE-IT training providers to deliver the program on a block basis (e.g. 4 days per week) rather than part time (pass rates increase).

• Enhanced selection criteria.

Youth Program Changes

• ACE-IT – Accelerated Enrolment in Industry Training

• ACE-IT work based training was discontinued starting

with the Sept 2013 intake

• Increase initial registration payment by $200 to $1200

and $1700 for Heavy Duty/Truck and Transport trades

• Increase in ACE-IT registration of 22% from 804

registrants in Sept 2012 to 984 in Sept 2013

28

Youth Program Changes

• SSA – Secondary School Apprenticeship

• Registration allows ‘school aged’ students to register as

SSA up until June 30th in which they turn 19

• No changes in SSA Scholarship

• Pilot the introduction of a $500 Dual Registration Grant

to encourage dual registration in ACE-IT and SSA

• Report will be produced from ITADA and sent to school

districts in December to invoice the ITA
