There are 105 million items selling on eBay worldwide and approximately 6 million new items are added each day.

eBay averages more than 1 billion page views per day.

There were 588 million new listings added to eBay worldwide . At any given time, there are approximately 100 million listings worldwide, and approximately 6.4 million listings are added per day.

95% of eBay’s sellers are individuals or small businesses.

eBay has a global presence in 33 markets, including Australia.

You don’t need to know how to build a website and you don’t need to know how drive traffic to your site because eBay brings interested shoppers right to your door.

Before going to details, I would like to simply explain how eBay works for buyers.

Most of the buyers, when go to eBay to buy something, they do a simple search for the product they want to buy. Usually they don’t browse Different eBay categories nor they do advanced search. When they do their search and they find your listings, this will be the first step to make a sale. Let me assume that a buyer is going to buy a baby video monitor, how he will look for it.. Follow my snapshots

• Whenever you are going to list an item for sale, you have to target what buyers are looking for. This will include their search words [baby video monitor in this example], good price, good shipping price, excellent seller reputation. Now if the buyer is interested in your listing, he will either place a bid or buy your listing using Buy It Now.

Verify your identity with your credit card information:Your card won't be charged unless you authorize eBay to use it to pay your seller fees, which are charged only when you list or sell items.

statement. 3. Verify that your account has been activated. 4. Make sure your credit card or debit card account is in good standing.

Verifying your identity with your checking account information Your account information is used for identification purposes only. eBay deducts fees from your account only if you authorize eBay to use it to pay your seller fees.

To ensure your checking account goes on file:1. Make sure your routing number is correct. 2. Make sure your checking account number is correct. You’ll find your checking

account number on the bottom of your checks, usually before the symbol.

Select how you'll pay your seller fees

When becoming a seller, you need to select how you pay your eBay.com listing fees.

You can pay your seller fees using any of the following payment methods:1. PayPal (monthly and one-time payments) 2. Credit card (monthly and one-time payments) 3. Direct pay from your checking account (monthly and one-time payments)

Choose which payment methods you'll accept from buyers

For most listing categories, you need to offer at least one electronic payment or Internet merchant credit card option. This provides a fast and secure transaction for you and the buyer. When the buyer clicks the Buy it Now button in their email notification or item listing in My eBay, they can pay you immediately and the payment is processed through the processor you've chosen.

I personally prefer and recommend Paypal. Create Paypal account at www.paypal.com. Its very Important to create a premier account [not personal], so that you can accept payments. This is a very important step Before Listing an Item.

There is 2 eBay selling formats: Auction format and Fixed price Format. Those will be discussed in details later.

The title of your listing is the most important thing. This is how buyers will find your listing. Be very descriptive and think of what buyers are looking for. In this example I wrote the title “Bebe Sound Baby Monitor Prenatal heart Sounds”. Now if someone searches [bebe sound baby monitor] or [baby monitor] or [baby heart sounds] or [prenatal heart sounds monitor] he will find your listing. Imagine if you wrote in your title “Bebe Sound Baby Monitor”, how many buyers searching for your monitor, you have lost. The Bottom line: keep the title full of the words buyers are searching for.

• Sales tax varies with each state. Also see the policy of your state for internet sales tax. Change your return policy depending on the type of item you are selling. For example, personalized items cannot be returned.

Before pressing continue, make sure that you have a look on insertion fees [there will be another final value fees which will be charged when your item sells]. You can then press continue.

• After pressing continue, you will be directed to listing upgrade page for extra fees. I don’t recommend it for the beginners. Just go to the bottom of the page to preview your listing and then list it.

A typical auction-style listing works this wayThe seller offers one or more items and sets a starting price.

Buyers visit the listing and bid on the item during the online auction's duration.

When the auction-style listing ends, the high bidder or bidders buy the item from the seller for the high bid.

The auction-style format is flexible. When you use it, you will be given many options, including giving buyers an opportunity to buy at a fixed price (Buy It Now), selling multiple identical items, and setting a hidden minimum-selling price (reserve price.).Let’s go to the next page and take a screen shot of the listing page and choose the auction format.

Here is a screen shot of the Auction Format. The items are numbered and we will discuss each.

1. Starting price [refer to page 51]• The starting price is the lowest price you are willing to

sell your item for (unless you also specify a reserve price). Bidding will start at this price.

• Let us assume that you have a digital camera. The price you want is 100 dollars. You can put a starting price for your auction of 49.99 for example.

• When buyers see your listing and find that they are buying a 100 dollar value for 49.99, they will start placing bids. The price will rise for each bid placed by buyers.

• The risk comes when your item is not popular and will not receive much bids. In this case I recommend using a reserve price. [ will be discussed in the next few pages]

• However if you are selling a popular item, mostly you will get the price you want..

• Some professional sellers, who are selling very common and high selling products, put a starting price of 1 dollar or even 99 cents although the price they want for this product can be hundreds of dollars.

• They depend on the fact that their products are hot sellers and that they sure will get a lot of bids.

• Sellers have found that setting the starting price too high may discourage bidding. Some Sellers often use reserve pricing to ensure they sell the item at the amount they want.

2. Buy it now price for an auction format listing [refer to page 51]• Let us take the same 100 dollars camera as an example. You put

the starting price 49.99.

• Some buyers might find that bidding may let them wait for the whole duration of the auction [ can be from 1 – 10 days] and they want to buy the camera immediately.

• When you put the Buy It Now price, always put it slightly higher than the actual price you want from the camera.

• In this example, I will put it 104 dollars …Why?? When bidders see your buy it now price, they will get a rough estimate that your camera falls within this range. They will start placing their bids with their mind set that the actual price of this camera is 104. They will be thinking that even If they placed their bids and take it for 102 dollars, they have got a good deal.

• Also if someone buy it for buy it now price [104 dollars], you already made more profit.

3. Reserve price for an auction format listing [refer to page 50]

A reserve price is the lowest price at which you’re willing to sell your item. If you don’t want to sell your item below a certain price, you can a set a reserve price.

The amount of your reserve price isn’t shown to your bidders, but they will see that your auction has a reserve price that has not been met. If a bidder doesn’t meet that price, you aren’t obliged to sell your item.

  Why have a reserve price? Many sellers have found that too high a starting price discourages interest in their item, while an attractively low starting price makes them vulnerable to selling at an unsatisfactorily low price. A reserve price helps with this.

Let us take the same 100 dollars camera as an example. You put the starting price 9.99. If you received 1 bid only through the whole auction duration, you are obliged to sell with this unsatisfactory price. However if you put a reserve price of 100, your listing will show to the bidders that reserve price is not met. And they will keep bidding until your reserve price is met.

All Reserve Price Auctions are subject to a Reserve Price Auction Fee.

You may lower your reserve price after you receive bids on the item.

4. Quantity [refer to page 50]Quantity means how many items of the same product you are going to sell. As a beginner, I recommend that you sell a quantity of one for the product…why???

Let me explain: you have 2 sony digital cameras. If you are going to sell the 2 cameras in 2 different auctions, you will put a quantity of one and you set the starting price as 49.99.

if 2 buyers are interested in the cameras, the first one will place a bid for 49.99, the second buyer will have to place a higher bid 50.99 to win the camera and so on with more buyers.

If you decide to put the 2 cameras in one auction, you will put a quantity of two in your listing and you set the starting price as 49.99.. If 2 buyers saw your listing and decide to bid, the first buyer will put a bid of 49.99 and the second buyer will put the same bid 49.99 for the second camera.

The risk here for multiple quantity auctions is that you will need more buyers to sell your items and to get the bidding price higher.

This might not happen during the duration of the auction.

The bottom line: if you have a high selling product, and you are expecting a lot of interested buyers, you can sell multiple quantities of it in the same auction listing. If not, I would prefer one auction for one quantity.

5. Duration [refer to page 51]

Duration of your auction can be 1, 3, 5, 7, 0r 10 days [You pay extra fees for 10 days auction].

The most commonly used duration is 7 days.

You can use less duration, if you want to sell your item faster. The problem with small durations is that you might get less number of buyers. However, with small durations you will get higher ranking in the search.

Now let us go for some tips For Auction format.

Tips for auction format Listings

• Tip# 1: Whenever you decide to start an auction for an item, the first thing you should do is to look up its value on eBay. Let us take “BebeSounds Video Monitor” as an example. Go to ebay.com and follow my snapshots

• Tip# 2: Be sure to close your auction at a time when people get home from work. Auctions closing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday do better, and those closing in the evening do Much better.

• Tip# 3: Start with a low starting price [0.99]. Most buyers when searching eBay sort the search results by the number of bids. This usually brings the auctions with more bids to the top and lets most of the others sink to the bottom of the list. A low starting bid gets the bidding war started and can have a dramatic effect on the bid count column. However, It’s also not true that a 0.99 starting price is always the best policy. This is only true if your item has a lot of demand.

• Tip# 4: You can run a ten day auction, starting on Thursday evening. That means your item is up for two weekends rather than just one, it finishes on a Sunday night.

• Tip# 5: A lot of bids come in during the last 2 or 3 hours you list an item. Thus, the logical close time is the one that happens when your target buyer is at his or her computer. For example, If your listing targets college students, make sure it ends around 9PM.

• Tip# 6: Always write accurate descriptions of your listings. You want every buyer to get exactly what they expect when they made that bid

• Tip# 7:Avoid auctions around big holidays where people mostly travel, like Christmas and memorial day.

A typical Fixed price listing works this way. • Buyers can purchase your item immediately at

the price you set, but they cannot bid on your item.

• Make sure you meet the requirements for selling at a fixed price: To sell an item at a fixed price, you must meet certain feedback requirements and be selling the item for at least $1.00.

• Create the listing: When you reach the Choose how you’d like to sell your item section, select the Fixed Price tab and enter the Buy It Now price.

• If you don’t see the Fixed Price tab, this means that you don’t meet the requirements for selling at a fixed price.

Select the Fixed Price tab [see p.64]. If you don’t see the Fixed Price tab, this means that you don’t meet the requirements for selling at a fixed price. Here are the requirements:

1. Buy it now price [see p.64]: put the price you want to sell your item for. There will be no bidding on your item.

2. Best Offer: [see p. 64]: you can allow buyers to place an offer on your item. This attract more buyers to your listing. When you receive the offer, you can accept it or decline it. The offer price will be lower than the buy it now price.

3. Quantity: [see p. 64]: put the available quantity of your item.

4. Duration: [see p. 64]: put the duration of your listing. I prefer good til canceled which will renew your listing automatically every 30 days. This is very practical when you have a big quantity of the same item.

How to increase visitors to your fixed price listings

• If you are selling an item with a fixed price, as part of the listing process you can choose the Best Offer option. With Best Offer, you give buyers a chance to negotiate with you on price. This will dramatically increase the number of buyers visiting your listing.

Now, assume that a buyer is searching for this item as an example “ Airplane Luggage Tag”. Let us see what the search will bring:

• Buyers will be attracted to seller with the higher price because he is offering a best offer on his listing. The buyer will think that he can make an offer and get a cheaper deal. The buyer can make an offer of 135 and can get a better deal on the same item. Whenever you get an offer from a buyer, this means that you have an interested shopper in your item. So manage this offer carefully so that you don’t lose a potential buyer.

So how the buyer will place an offer on your listing and how you are going to deal with this?? First of all the buyer will open your listing and will click make an offer.

• In the next step the buyer will put the price of his offer and the quantity he wants.

You will then receive a notification email of a best offer. Click review and respond.

• Accept the offer if you are still making a profit with the offer price. In this example, my buy it now was 142.99 and my profit with this price is 15 dollars. The buyer offered 137 which is 6 dollars less but I am still making a 9 dollars profit, so I am going to accept this offer.

• Decline the offer if the offer price is way below the buy it now price. For example the buyer made an offer of 75 dollars and your buy it now is 142.99. Usually those buyers are not willing to buy.

• Make a counteroffer if the buyer offer price is too close to your profit price. For example, if the buyer made an offer of 120 dollars. You can then make a counter offer of 135. If the buyer accepts your counter offer, you have made a 7 dollars profit. The buyer in this case feels that he got a price better than the buy it now price [142.99] and at the same time you did not lose a potential buyer.

• The bottom line, always include a best offer icon with all your fixed price listings. This will significantly increase the number of potential buyers visiting your listing.

The real money isn't in the auction or fixed format, it is in the store

For a monthly fee, you can build and promote your own store, complete with all the tools you could possibly need to make money like promotion boxes, custom pages, email marketing and more.

The auction and fixed price format listings are only a part of your sales strategy, and they will help you market your store.

The goal is to use these listings to help bring traffic to your store which should have tons of other products for people to purchase. These products should be categorized properly on your ebay store. In addition, use other channels to get traffic to your store, and don't rely just on item listings. Market your store in google and yahoo, use business cards and promotional flyers.

Basic facts about Store categories

1. You can create as many as 300 Store categories .2. Another category, named "Other items", will appear

for listings that you did not assign to a Store category. .

3. Whenever you create a new listing, you'll be able to assign it to one of your Store categories.

4. A category will not appear in your Store if there are no listings in it.

5. You can move listings from one category to another.

6. Listings that you created before you opened your Store automatically appear in the "Other items" Store category, but you can edit those listings to change your category selection.

Tips for setting up Store categories

1. Think like a buyer. Create a set of categories that help buyers quickly find the types of items that you have to offer without overwhelming them.

2. Be sure that you have enough listings to make each category meaningful to a buyer. If you only have a few listings in each category, you probably have too many categories and might be creating a poor buying experience.

3. List your items in two categories - a main Store category and a secondary Store category. There is no charge for listing in two Store categories.

4. Consider creating special categories that attract buyers' attention, such as "50% Off" or "Featured Items".

These flexible, customizable displays highlight featured items, announce specials, or provide alternative ways for buyers to browse in your store. 5.Search engine keywords [refer to p. 81]: customize keywords associated with each Store Page to increase the chances of buyers finding your store pages when using search engines. Ebay Store Subscription Fees These fees are monthly and are different from ebay insertion

and final value fees [they will be discussed later]. If you are planning to sell few items, just start with the basic store.

For any Selling format on ebay, there are 4 kinds of fees:

1. Insertion Fees [ when you list your item].

2. Final Value Fees [if your item sells].

3. Paypal Fees [when you receive payment from your buyer].

4. Listing Upgrade Fees [ If you want to add more options. I rarely use listing upgrades].

• Starting on April 2010, all ebay insertion and final value fees will depend on whether

you have an ebay store or not.

• As you can see in the previous table, there will be NO Insertion Fees for Auction-style listings when you list your item with a start price under $1—up to 100 listings per month.

• For items from $1- $9.99, you will pay 25 cents insertion fee and so on according to the previous table.

• One easy Final Value Fee of 9% of the winning bid—and never more than $50—regardless of your start price or final selling price.

Now let us have an example

• If you look to the table in the previous page, the insertion fees for this starting price is $0.25. If you are going to list your item without any listing upgrades [like an extra picture], your insertion fees will be $0.25 only.

Sometimes neutral feedback comments will affect your sales even. Try to communicate with your buyer about a negative feedback. Dropshipping is a system where a wholesaler receives customer orders and shipment details from sellers. The ordered items are then shipped by the wholesaler to the customer. 1. Title: The title on kateaspen website is written like this “Lucky Elephant

Antique Ivory Finish Tea Light Holder”. 2 things you should take care of , First: total number of characters

in this title is beyond ebay maximum number of characters for title. This means that you should reduce the characters in this title. Second: People are not searching for lucky elephant, they are searching for wedding favors or favors. They may be also searching for tea light holder.

My point of view is that you just don’t go and copy and paste the title but you must Modify it in way to match what people are searching for.

My suggestion for eBay title for this product is “Wedding Favors 100 Elephant Ivory Tea Light Holder”.

Now if an eBay customer is searching for “wedding favors”, he will find my listing. If he searches any combination of the words on my title, he will find my listing. For example, Favors, wedding tea light holder, elephant tea light holder favors. Any combination of words included in the title, will show my listing in the search results.

3. Description: Copy and paste the description to your listing and modify as I showed you before to make it looking nice.

4. Price: The price in kateaspen website is 1.45/piece provided that you will

be buying 96 or more. As I told you that I am going to sell 100 pieces. The price that I am going to pay is 145 dollars for 100 pieces.

Don’t put 145 dollars on your eBay listing. You have to add your profit and your eBay [insertion and final value fees] and paypal fees. You can refer to my explanation for fees calculation or you can use my simple method which is always successful if the price of your item ranges from [10 – 1000 dollars]

What I do is that I add my profit to kateaspen price.. let me say 15 dollars.. Total now will be 145 + 15 =160.

To cover my ebay and paypal fees, I always add 20% to this total price. So, 20% of 160 will be 32 dollars.. i add those 32 dollars to the 160 which will give me 192 dollars.. those 192 dollars will be my ebay Buy it Now price.

When I open this excel file, I will find different shipping zones. I choose “zone 7” rates in front of the weight of my package [33 lbs] and I add 5 dollars to zone 7 rates to cover for tracking charges. This method is not very accurate and might give you higher shipping charges for some states and lower charges for some other states. I mean you can make some money with shipping charges in some states and lose some money with other states which will make them even at the end

Let me clarify more.. With my method, I calculated shipping to be 28.04. Kateaspen ships from Georgia. When you click create hoplink, you will start creating a code. You will then implement your code in your ebay classified ad. Whenever a customer is referred to the pitch page through this code and buy the product, you will get paid a commission by clickbank. Now Follow my snapshots to create your code. Now you have the code for a weight loss ebook. Now let us go back to eBay and post an ebay classified ad. In this ad I will write a description promoting this weight loss ebook. 1. When you click paid with no feedback , you will be directed to this page where you will be able to see all your paid items that need a feedback to be left. You will be able to leave a feedback for all your listings at the same time. Imagine if you have 40 sales that you want to

leave a feedback for them. With selling manager you can leave it for them in just one step.

2.Click Listing Eligible for unpaid item reminder: [refer to page 204]: this link will show you and help you manage bought items with delayed payments from buyers. After you click it, you will be directed to this page:

eBay contact the buyer immediately after you open your case. If the buyer doesn't respond within 7 days, you can close the case and receive a final value fee credit. You need to close your case within 60 days from the time of the transaction. On the 61st day after the end of the transaction, if you haven't closed your case, eBay automatically closes it and you are not credited the Final Value fee.

3. Click cancel Bids early [refer to page 204]: This link will help you to remove bids from certain listing. In general, sellers shouldn’t cancel bids on their listings. However, there are a few legitimate reasons for doing so: A bidder contacts you to back out of the bid or You cannot verify the identity of the bidder after trying all reasonable means of contact or You want to end your listing early [ your item is broken or you put your starting price wrong. When you click cancel Bids, you will see this page

4. Click end listing early [refer to page 204]: In some cases, you might find that you need to end a listing early. For example, you might discover that the item you are selling doesn’t work or is missing a part. Before ending a listing: Make sure that you have a valid reason for ending the listing.Check that you meet the requirements for ending the listing. If there are 12 hours or less before the end of the listing, restrictions apply. After you Click end listing early, you will be directed to this page

1.Active listings: when you click active listings, you will be directed to all your listings , whether fixed price, auction or store inventory.

2.Ending today: When you click it, you will be directed to all your listings ending today. You can manage this listings.. you might need to sell similar listings like them or view number of bidders. you might also end one of them earlier if you have a problem with the item you are selling.

3. Listings with questions: this will direct you to the listings that have questions from potential buyers. You will be able to see how many questions each listing have and you will then respond.
