GAH REFRIGERATION PRODUCT GUIDE

GAH is a British company specialising in the design and manufacture of direct drive transport refrigeration systems. With over twenty years experience, they are committed to supplying powerful, yet fuel efficient solutions that meet the challenges facing the transport industry – to adapt to our crowded road systems whilst reducing the impact on the environment.

InnovationThe GAH product range is an example of progressive innovation that reflects the varying nature and size of their customers’ businesses. GAH provide refrigeration solutions for anything from consumables to pharmaceuticals and flowers to fine art for small local suppliers, national supermarket chains, courier and spot hire companies.

Built in BritainAll GAH systems are designed and built by highly skilled engineering and production teams based at their manufacturing facility in Suffolk. From this facility, a call centre team co-ordinate a fleet of fully trained service engineers that offer unparalleled levels of aftersales service with service plans tailored to suit the customers’ needs.

The following system guide gives an idea of what’s typical to a particular range. There are various options available within each range.

INTRODUCING GAH REFRIGERATION

Fuel EfficiencyGAH units are designed to pull down to temperature quickly and then cycle off. When the fridge is cycled off it does not take power from the vehicle’s engine thereby saving fuel. In addition to a fast, efficient reverse cycle defrost system a GAH system can reduce the operator’s fuel bill.

EvaporatorsAll GAH evaporators have been designed for maximum airflow and efficiency allowing optimum utilisation of the loadspace.

British made for the British climateThe UK climate differs from mainland Europe with temperatures ranging from around -10°C to 35°C. High humidity means the UK environment can be difficult for transport refrigeration systems; however, all GAH systems are designed in the UK to operate efficiently and cope with these conditions.

European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA)ECWVTA was introduced in 2013 and is the industry standard for components that can be attached to a vehicle (such as refrigeration units). GAH supply units that carry full ECWVTA ensuring that our systems meet all current environmental, safety and security standards. Without compliance, vehicles can not be registered in the UK.

In-cab ControlAn in-cab controller with digital display monitors and controls the temperature and defrosting whilst providing a constant load space temperature readout.

Lightweight systemsGAH systems are the lightest in class and provide more watts per kilo than our competitors meaning an increased load carrying capacity and increased fuel efficiency.

Reverse Cycle DefrostAll GAH low temperature models use Reverse Cycle Defrost. This feature keeps the air temperature within closer tolerances and ensures that the fridge is cooling more often than hot gas systems (which are used by most of our competitors).

Off Cycle DefrostOn chill only units, a timer disconnects the compressor whilst keeping the fan in the load space running. Air passing over the evaporator coil in a chill system will be above 0°C, therefore it will melt any frost that has built up. A timer will connect power to the compressor again after 5 minutes and the cooling cycle will continue.

CompressorsGAH has pioneered the use of more robust truck compressors, capable of dealing with the rigors of low temperature refrigerants and that give an enhanced compressor life.

The GAH range of refrigeration systems are powerful, lightweight and fuel efficient. The following functions and advantages are typical to all GAH systems.

Flexi-tempThe GAH Flexi-temp is a dual system that allows two insulated compartments to be heated or cooled simultaneously maintaining temperatures from 25°C to -25°C in any ambient condition, giving fully flexible and more precise temperature in either compartment. Although designed for pharmaceutical carriers, it is also ideal for spot hire vehicles, sample deliveries and specialist couriers carrying temperature sensitive goods with no cross contamination between loads.

ExcaliburFor medium sized suitably insulated box bodies with the option of single or three phase electric standby. The following types of vehicle are ideally suited to the Excalibur range: Mercedes Sprinter Chassis Cab, Mercedes Atego, DAF LF45 (boxes up to 20M2).

J500The J500 is a cost-effective box body refrigeration system for 3.5 to 10 tonne temperature controlled vehicles. Suitable for boxes from 3.5m to 5m long, it allows you to carry more products by offering temperature control without an independent diesel engine. It is ideally suited to the Mercedes Atego (boxes up to 30M2).

BOX BODY VANS EX700The EX700 is a cost-effective box body refrigeration system for 7.5 to 18 tonne temperature controlled vehicles. Suitable for boxes from 5m to 8m long, it allows you to carry more products by offering temperature control without an independent diesel engine. It is ideally suited to the MAN TGL (boxes up to 48M2).

FS7The Fuel Saver range from GAH uses the low noise and highly efficient scroll compressor for electric standby use, meaning noise pollution and mains electrical consumption are also reduced, enabling the operator to be eco friendly as well as fuel efficient (boxes up to 48M2).

Dual SystemsDual evaporator systems available from GAH offer various configurations for the transportation of chilled and frozen goods within suitably insulated totally separate compartments. Unlike traditional systems where air is taken from the frozen section to cool the chill section, GAH Dual systems have a separate evaporator for each compartment. This means that you do not deplete the temperature in one compartment to satisfy the temperature in another.

SPECIALIST AND BESPOKE DESIGN

refrigerant levels, self-detect even the smallest refrigerant leaks, and stop that leakage at the earliest opportunity has significant quantifiable benefits for any business. Refrigerant loss is significantly reduced, fridge faults can be quickly diagnosed, and downtime is reduced. The GAH RCS does exactly that.

L150eDesigned in conjunction with a supermarket requiring a chill compartment cooled with no engine mounted compressor. The L150e is a 48 volt DC system giving a near constant 1.5Kw of cooling while the vehicle’s engine is running. The benefits include no requirement to upgrade the vehicle’s alternator, fewer refrigerant pipes and joints and less refrigerant carried. We used a hermetic Rotary Compressor that has no brushes, no belts and no leaks and, being 48 volts, it uses smaller cables and draws fewer amps than the lower powered 12 volt system they had been using.

Flexi-tempThe concept of Flexi-temp came about after requests from specialist pharmaceutical couriers wanting to transport temperature sensitive goods at two different temperatures (either heating or cooling) in two compartments, avoiding cross-contamination, within one vehicle. The need for Flexi-temp was a result of EU revised guidelines stating that pharmaceutical products must be transported and handled according to their specific storage requirements.

RD250eIn response to discussions with major supermarkets, GAH designed the RD250e system. This innovative system gives operators better temperature control with a lighter, electrically driven unit. It has no engine bay compressor, uses a more environmentally friendly refrigerant, has a significantly reduced possibility of refrigerant leaks, gives near constant, maximum performance even at tickover and, in addition, it is quieter thus reducing noise pollution.

Refrigerant Containment System (RCS)In 2012, GAH was approached with a challenge to design a system to reduce the potential for the loss of refrigerant gas to the atmosphere. The development of a ‘smart’ refrigeration system that can monitor
