Discouraged? Joshua 1:9 (NIV) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be
afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” The story goes: On my way home
one day, I stopped to watch a Little League baseball game that was being played in a park near my home. As I sat down behind
the bench on the first-base line, I asked one of the boys what the score was. “We're behind 14 to nothing,” he answered with a
smile. “Really,” I said. “I have to say you don't look very discouraged.” “Discouraged?” the boy asked with a puzzled look on
his face, ”Why should we be discouraged? We haven't been up to bat yet.” We should apply this story to our Christian lives
when we feel down and things aren’t going our way or the way we think they should; we just don’t feel that we are winning. We
just need to read the BOOK that tells us that Jesus is on our team and actually has already won the game for us. We just have to
show up and play our assigned positions. The Bible tells us we win big time; our final inning (lasting eternity) is
played in Heaven with Jesus being the umpire making all the right calls. As the little boy said, “Why should we be
discouraged? We’ve already WON!! Support His “GAME” through your local church. Mr. Jerry-Finance

Greetings in the name of Jesus! This week I had a conversation with a
friend who has been going through a long battle with health issues. For years he has faced each new day wondering
what that day would hold for him physically. I listened carefully as he shared concerning his latest battles. Then I marveled as I
noticed a level of excitement begin to rise in his voice and he told me that he believes he will be able to be at church this week.
That conversation sure made me think. First, I had to look at myself and admit that I really don’t appreciate the blessings of
God the way I should. I truly have been blessed. The afternoon before my conversation with my friend, Susan and I had talked
about how good God had been to us. The issues we have had to face and live with in our lives are so small compared with many
in this world. We agreed that our troubles weren’t even worth mentioning when we see how others our age are struggling. We
acknowledged how blessed we are, but then, sadly, we just kind of passed it off. How blessed we are!! Then the conversation,
with my friend made me take the thought further. I surely don’t give God the glory He deserves. In fact, for the most part, we
don’t think about God until something goes wrong in our lives. Paul wrote in Romans 8:36, that every day, “we are regarded as
sheep to be slaughtered.” How little control we have of what goes on around us or even what goes on inside our bodies. God
said to Abram, in Genesis 15:1, “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield...” What a wonderful shield God has been to me.
As I prepare for church this week, I am looking forward to being able to say, “thank you, God,” for the privilege and the
strength and health to be here and to be able to lift up to you praises in song and prayer and worship. Please join us as we
worship. God deserves our praise! We need you to be a part of the worship and ministry here at SLBC. Our praise is not
complete without you. God bless you all! Butch
