• We should have fun playing and practicing the game

Fundamental Principles• Loyalty

– Be loyal to the program, your teammates and to the coaching staff• Commitment

– Commitment to excellence• High Expectations

– Set high, but reasonable goals of what you can accomplish as a team and as an individual

• Self Discipline– Be accountable for our own actions. Do the right thing, even when no one

is watching• Make Responsible Decisions

– Decisions you make on and off the field will affect not only you, but your teammates. You are accountable for the choices you make.

Fundamental Principles

• Play Hard– We will never expect or accept less than your

best effort. Neither should you• Play With Enthusiasm– Enthusiasm is contagious. It can inspire you and

your teammates to greatness• Be A Team– Work together, play together, succeed together

We will never ask more than the best you can do. Neither

you nor we should ever accept anything less

Academics

• Football takes a great deal of time– Players must learn to budget their time– We expect the same attitude of hard work, self-

discipline and commitment in the classroom– We expect your best in the classroom as well as on

the field

Academics• Do the work and do it on time

– Do the best quality work possible– Don’t wait until the last minute

• Treat teachers with respect– If you work with your teachers, they will work with you

• Plan your day to get assignments done– Do not use football as an excuse for not doing your work

• Parents help set times for schoolwork• If you need help, ask your teacher politely. Ask your coaches for

help• We will check to see how you are doing in terms of grades and

behavior!!!

If you don’t meet eligibility requirements, you can’t play. We can’t change your

grades and wouldn’t if we could. We’ll help you get whatever help you need, but we won’t do the work for you or arrange

for you to get a grade you didn’t earn

Medical Requirements

• Must have a current physical on state approved form

• All injuries must be reported to a coach or the trainer: the trainer will determine whether or not you can practice or play

• If out of practice with illness or injury for 5 or more days, must have doctor’s note to return to practice

• If you see a doctor, we must have a doctor’s note to return to practice

Concussions

• No player who is suspected of having a concussion may return to play without being cleared by a doctor

• Players who have had a concussion must follow gradual return to play guidelines once they are symptom free

• There is both an academic and athletic component to the return to school and return to play

Expectations for Parents• Closely monitor academic progress• Make sure your son gets plenty of rest and the proper

nutrition• Make sure your son is hydrated– Their urine should be no darker than lemonade

• Support our program– Help us build unity– If you criticize the coaches in front of your son, he is not going

to listen to us—you are the most influential person in his life– Please consider joining the Booster Club!!!

Problems

If there is a problem, discuss it with a coach. We will be happy to talk with you about what your son can do to be a better player or a better student and about what he needs to do to improve.

We will NEVER discuss playing time with parents.

Expectations for Players

• Be an example of the right kind of man on and off the field

• Commit yourself to excellence. No excuses!• Work hard. “The harder you work, the harder it

is to surrender”• Develop yourself physically through our weight,

agility and running program• Listen to your coaches and follow their

instructions

Expectations of Players

• Communicate with the coaches• Work and play as a team• Do not let outside influences be distractions

from the team goals or your individual goals• Read your calendar and keep up with

scheduled events each week

Practice Attendance

• You are expected to be at practice, on time, every day. If you are not going to be at practice, you MUST let a coach know in advance. If you are not at practice and I don’t know where you are, we have a serious problem. First offense, you will run extra and are subject to sitting out a game. Second offense, you will sit out a game and may be dismissed from the team. Third offense, no question, you’re gone.

Basic Rule

• Do what you’re supposed to do, where you are supposed to be doing it, and when you are supposed to be doing it.

Social Media

• Do not post anything on social media that will be detrimental to the team– Don’t post negative comments about team or

teammates– Don’t post negative comments about opponents– Don’t give away sensitive information about our

team– Don’t post about drugs and alcohol– People know who you are and I will find out. Once

you post it, it’s out there for all the world to see

College Scholarships

• I don’t have any to hand out• I will assist your son in any way to get his film

and information to college coaches• I will be honest with your son about his

prospects of playing in college• I will introduce him to coaches who visit if I

feel he can play at their school• Hudl is a great tool for recruiting

You must have the proper grades and test scores. You must be the right size.

You must run the right speed. You must play the position the college is looking

to fill. You must have the proper attitude and work

ethic.

How to Attract Attention• Have good game film• Attend a one-day camp at the college!!!• You can do a combine. If you are invited to attend Nike,

UnderArmour, Rivals, or Scout combines you should attend. You can attend a Shrine Bowl combine if you are a really good senior. Other than that, combines are run to make money for people—not to get you a scholarship. College coaches can’t attend them anymore. Go to the one day camp at the college instead!!!!

• DO NOT PAY ANYONE ANY MONEY to help you get a scholarship. They will do nothing that your coaches don’t already do for free. They are taking your money!!!
