GOSPEL LEARNING

The Gospel reading today comes from St. Luke. Today’s Gospel is scary. It tells us about the end of the world: the wars, earthquakes, starvation, and terrible diseases. It says that we will be betrayed, arrested, and maybe killed but that we are not to worry because if we are faithful we will be saved.

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 21: 5-19

“The Destruction of the Temple and the Signs of the End Times”

Source: New Testament Pinoy Version Catholic Edition

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

LIVING THE GOSPEL

1. SITUATION

What do you think heaven will be like? How do you think can we get to heaven?

LIVING THE GOSPEL

2. GOSPEL THEME

In the Gospel, Jesus tells us that there will be no sickness and death in heaven. There will be no hatred or meanness. The food and drink will fill us forever and we will never go hungry. There will only be happiness and love.

Jesus is hoping that we “look busy” doing His work on His second coming. When He returns, he will know who was goofing-off and who was doing what they were supposed to do. The ones who were living good lives will be rewarded with heaven.

LIVING THE GOSPEL

3. GOSPEL CHALLENGE

Jesus knows that we will make mistakes but if we try to follow His path and are sorry when we mess-up, He will forgive us and we will still make it to heaven. Do the examination of conscience as a family and go to confession.

TRIVIA: SIGNS

As Catholics we use signs (an object, word or gesture) that lead us to something beyond themselves. The seven sacraments use different kinds of human objects, words, and gestures as special signs. These signs point us towards a greater reality: the gift of God for us on his grace.
