HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2007

The 2007 Hall of Fame Class will be inducted at the 21st Annual Hall of Fame Awards, Sunday, November 18, at theCountry House, East Haven. Patricia Scussel ’85 and Joseph Federation ’77 will receive the Distinguished GraduateAward. Athletes being honored are: Robert Guarino ’79, Edward Lemaire ’84, Jody Longley ’86, and Lisa DeGenaro ’91.

Scussel holds a degree in Communications from Albertus Magnus College and an MBA from the University ofNew Haven. She is the Executive Director of the Greater New Haven Leadership Center, which offers several programs forpotential and current leaders in the Greater New Haven Area. In addition, she has served as executive director of theprograms of the New Haven Network for Public Education since 2006, and was instrumental in creating the New HavenChamber of Commerce Not-for-Profit Resource Council in 2004. She currently serves on several boards and committees inthe region, including Advisory Board for Albertus’ Master of Arts in Leadership program, the Nominating Committee forthe Girl Scouts Connecticut Trails Council, and the Awards Breakfast Committee for the Association of VolunteerAdministrators of Greater New Haven. In 2001 she was the recipient of New Haven Business Times’ annual “Forty under40” award, a 2005 recipient of the magazine’s “Twenty Noteworthy Women” award and in 2004 was named a “Rising Star”by Business New Haven.

Patti has written numerous articles for Catalog Age Magazine, New Haven Register, Connecticut BusinessJournal, Chamber Forum, and Profile Magazine. As a lifelong resident of East Haven, she is an active volunteer in thearea as a member of the Junior League of Greater New Haven, co-chair of a School Co-op program with Timothy Dwight

School, and currently serves on the board as CommunityCouncil Director. In addition, she has served as a Read-Aloud Volunteer with School Volunteers of New Haven,has been a CCD teacher for 18 years, and during the springand summer is an assistant coach for the Foxon RecreationLeague. She has been a part of numerous committeesfocusing on issues including education and homelessness,as a volunteer for ALSO-Cornerstone’s annual Pizza Fest,and the United Way’s Day of Caring.

Federation is a twenty-six year veteran of the U.S.Air Force retiring in 2003 from the Pentagon at the grade ofChief Master Sergeant where he directed airbornereconnaissance operations for Headquarters Air Force. Hecompleted his undergraduate studies at the University ofMaryland, and received a degree in business managementat the University of Phoenix. Joe also is a graduate of theDefense Language Institute in Russian Studies and holdsan Associates Degree in Interpreting and Translating fromthe Community College of the Air Force. Throughout hismilitary career he managed programs providing diverseintelligence support to Air Force and Joint Service SpecialOperations forces worldwide. He is a combat veteran ofOperations SOUTHERN WATCH, UPHOLD DEMOCRACY,DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM, and other sensitivemissions where he flew as a mission director on numerousreconnaissance operations, amassing over 10,000 flighthours. His military decorations include the Bronze Star,the Meritorious Service Medal and sixteen Air Medals forhis service during the Cold War and Operation DesertStorm. In 1998, he received a National Intelligence Citationfrom the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, and in2003 was recognized by the Secretary of Defense for hisservice in support of the global war on terrorism. Presently,Joe is a consultant employed by the Riverside ResearchInstitute of New York City as the Technical Advisor to theHeadquarters, U.S. Air Force Deputy Chief of Staff forIntelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Mostrecently, he managed the development of policy onoperational employment of all Air Force manned andunmanned reconnaissance aircraft as liaison between AirForce Reconnaissance Systems Program Office and variousnational-level intelligence agencies and Headquarters, U.S.Air Force.

DeGenaro was a four year starter and captain ofthe softball team in her senior year. She was also a threeyear letter winner and captain of the cross country team.During her junior and senior years, she was named to theAll-Housatonic and All-State Teams and compiled a .384batting average with 20 RBI’s, 9 stolen bases in her junioryear and .482 average with 25 RBI’s and 10 stolen bases inher senior year. As a junior she was selected to play in theNutmeg Games and after graduation attended QuinnipiacUniversity.

LeMaire was named to the All-Housatonic HockeyTeam in his junior and senior years and was second teamAll-State in his senior year. He is considered to be one ofthe finest hockey players to play at East Haven. As captainof the team in his senior year, he had a total of 36 goals and36 assists and ended his career setting a school record

with 182 points. In the summer of 1984 he participated inHockey Night in Boston. In the winter of 1985 he playedJunior B hockey in Chatham, Ontario, participated in theOlympic Trials and the following year moved to Junior A inSudbury, Ontario. From 1988-90 he played professionalhockey in France for LeVesinet Paris and in 1988 he was theleague’s scoring champion with 50 goals and 45 assists.He was a member of the 1992 French National Hockey Teamand was formerly the Director of Drummond HockeySchools. With over twent-four years of coaching experienceEd is currently an instructor at The Rinks in Shelton.

Longley participated in two sports lettering infootball and baseball. He was named to the All-HousatonicTeam in his junior and senior years and the All-State Teamin his senior year. During his junior year he rushed for 1095yards for an average of 7.3 per carry, scored 14 touchdowns,had 10 interceptions, and 56 tackles. In his senior year hescored 12 touchdowns (out of a team total of 17) and hadkickoff returns of 85 and 90 yards. He ended his career with27 TD’s 2 PAT for a total of 166 points. As a catcher on thebaseball team Jody batted over .300 for his career. He hasbeen employed as a licensed mason with Blakeslee Prestressof Branford and in 2007 opened his own company, J & JMasonry which offers high quality masonry products andservices. He is a youth coach in the East Haven LittleLeague and Youth Football League and is a volunteer forthe St. Vincent dePaul School. Currently he is active inparticipating in softball. He resides in East Haven with hiswife Theresa and their eight year old son Frank.

Guarino was Captain of the track team letteringthree years, while setting school records in the javelin anddiscus. He was named to the All-Housatonic, All-StateTeams, and was State Open Champion in the javelin with athrow of 201’ 11”. He was a three year member of the footballteam as the team punter. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree inComputer Technology, Master of Business Administrationfrom the University of New Haven where he graduatedSumma Cum Laude.. After two years on the UNH TrackTeam, he was sidelined with a shoulder injury.

As a top flight bowler, he qualified in the 1979Coca Cola All-American Youth Bowling Championshipsplacing 18 out of 51 bowlers from all over the U.S. andCanada. From 1985-2000, he played softball for severalarea teams and was named to the All-Tournament Team inthe 2000 National Championship He has volunteered forthe Special Olympics, was a cub scout den leader, a youthsoftball coach, and a volunteer at the Greater Hartford GolfTournament, and Easter Seals Fantasy of Lights. From 1984-85 he was a computer programmer with The Travelers andcurrently he is Manager II for Sales Compensation atAnthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Connecticut. Robertresides in East Haven with his wife Cheryl, daughterStephanie 12, and son Alex 8.

CHILD RECEIVES ACQUARULOFOUNDATION AWARD

Nicholas Child received the newly establishedAcquarulo Family Foundation Scholarship. He was a memberof the Honor Society, Junior Class President and receivedOutstanding Achievement Awards in Physical ScienceHonors, Algebra 2, Advanced Placement US Governmentand Politics, and Health/PE, and Honors Precalculus. As alinebacker he was the football team’s MVP and was namedto the New Haven Gridiron Club Levi Jackson Team. He wasa CIAC Scholar Athlete and team Captain. Nick participatedin the March of Dimes Walk-a-thon, volunteered at ColumbusHouse, and was a reader in the elementary schools. Heranked 2nd in the class and is attending Boston Universitywhere he is majoring in mechanical engineering.

DANIEL DEDONA EARNS M.S. FROMCOLUMBIA

Daniel DeDona ’00 graduated with an Master ofScience degree from Columbia, where he earned a 3.9 GPA.He will take his quantitative skills to Wall Street where hasaccepted a position at Deutsche Bank. He will work as aquantitative analyst securities trader in the Global MarketsDivision. DeDona became interested in the markets throughan internship at hedge fund New York City, where helpedresearch and develop a statistical arbitrage equities tradingmodel. He earned his undergraduate degree from Yale and iscurrently training in London.

DEDONA GRADUATES MAGNA CUMLAUDE

Gregg DeDona ’02 graduated magna cum laudefrom Boston University School of Management with abachelor’s degree in business administration with aconcentration in finance. He completed a very intense corecurriculum his junior year and was chosen to participate inthe highly selective directed studies program in equityresearch and portfolio management. He also interned in thesummer of 2005 at an equity research firm in New York City.In addition, he was selected as a resident advisor hi senioryear. Greg has accepted a position as a proprietary equitytrader with a company on Wall Street.

HILL RECEIVES WARNERSCHOLARSHIPChristina Hill, daughter of

Rosa DeLucia Hill ’80, was the recipientof the Robert and Frances Healy WarnerScholarship. She was the classhistorian, a member of the HonorSociety, and Vice President of the FutureBusiness Leaders of America. Christinaalso served as a Peer Tutor, a memberof the Prom Committee, the EHHSHealth & Wellness Committee, and theBest Buddies. In her spare time shevolunteered to read to third gradestudents, and served the elderly atLaurel Woods Nursing Home. Christinaranked 13th in the class and is attendingFairfield University, majoring inSecondary Education.

the Dr. William Pite Scholar/AthleteScholarship. MATTIE PRESENTSRESEARCH PAPER

Angela Mattie ‘76 presenteda research paper at the American PublicHealth Association annual meeting,November 7, 2006/ She presented herpaper “Patient Safety: The Role ofCongress,” which examines thelegislative process and impact onhealthcare organizations. She alsodescribed the significance of patientsafety issues in the health care field.Angela’s presentation was based onher work as a Robert Wood JohnsonHealth Policy fellow working as staffto the U.S. Senate Health, Education,Labor, and pension Committee. She isan assistant professor of managementin the School of Business at QuinnipiacUniversity.

POMPANO NAMEDNOTEWORTHY WOMAN

Carol Parlato Pompano ’63, amember of Anthem Blue Crossleadership team, was in a group offemale executives recognized as NewHaven Business Times’ “TwentyNoteworthy Women” last April. Caroljoined Anthem in 1999 and has morethan 22 years experience in communitypublic and media relations, marketing;special events planning and executionand internal communications. In hercurrent role as Community RelationsManager, she oversees charitablecontributions and sponsorships andprovides counsel to senior executivesregarding corporate philanthropy andstakeholder and relationshipmanagement. She was the recipient ofthe Alumni Association DistinguishedGraduate Award in1998.

PAOLILLO RECEIVESVELARDI SCHOLARSHIP

Louis Paolillo, son ofAlphonse and Maria Consiglio Paolillo‘80/82 received the Annette VelardiMemorial Scholarship. He was captainand a four year member of the HockeyTeam, a member of the Math League, aSCC Scholar Athlete of the Month, andreceived geography and history awards.He ranked 19th in the class and isattending Quinnipiac University.

TWO AWARDED DILUNGOSCHOLARSHIPS

Joseph Lucibello and Nikki Bova were awarded theDiLungo Family Scholarships. Joseph was captain of thehockey team and was named to the All –SCC, All-Area and,All-State Teams. He was also captain of the baseball team,and was named to the All-SCC Academic Team and All-Academic SCC All-Star Team. Joseph ranked 16th in his classand is attending Sacred Heart University where he ismajoring in computer science.

Nikki, daughter of Ronald and Lori Vollono Bova75/79, was a member of the basketball team and received ascholar athlete and coaches award. She participated inStudents Against Prejudice, Students Against DestructiveDecisions, Best Buddies, and the Principal’s Cabinet. Inaddition, she volunteered at local nursing homes and Habitatfor Humanity. Nikki is attending Suffolk University whereshe is majoring in Criminal Justice/law.

SANSONE AWARDED GRIECOSCHOLARSHIP

Melissa Sansone, daughter of Lynne MastrianoSansone ’81, received the Grieco Family Scholarship. Shewas a member of the Young Educators Society, ActiveStudents Against Prejudice, Students Against DestructiveDecisions, Yearbook Committee, Junior and Senior PromCommittees. Melissa was a senior center volunteer, youthcheerleading coach, and a volunteer dance instructor. Sheranked 30th in the class and is attending Gateway CommunityCollege and majoring in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

VASPASIANO HONORED

Anthony Vaspasino ’95 was given the FairfieldPolice Department Life Saving Award in connection withaction he took on August 25, 2006. While on patrol, he freeda motorist who was trapped in a vehicle surrounded by risingwaters beneath an Interstate 95 overpass in Fairfield. Theman he saved did not know how to swim and had beenunable to get the doors open himself because of pressurefrom water that rose to about a foot below the car roof.Anthony was able to get the door open underwater with theman inside pushing and Vaspasino pulling.

SIX RECEIVE ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS

Six graduates of the Class o 2007 received AlumniAssociation Scholarships at the Annual Awards Night heldat the high school, June 6, 2007.

Meaghan Ames, daughter of Jane Slubowski Ames’80, was the recipient of the Harvard Book Award, a memberof the Honor Society, a member of the National Society ofHigh School Scholars, Treasurer of her class, and Treasurerof the French Club. She was a four year member of theCheerleading Squad and Captain in her senior year. Inaddition, she was involved in a number of community serviceactivities. Meaghan ranked 4th in the graduating class and isattending Quinnipiac University, majoring in psychology/psychobiology.

Michele Meoli, daughter of Steven and DoreenPeloso Meoli ’76, lettered in soccer and tennis and served ascaptain of both teams. She was named Scholar Athlete ofthe Year2007. She ranked 8th in the class and is attendingUMass Lowell majoring in physics-radiological health.

Jessica Kuen, daughter of John Kuen ’60, was thelayout and copy editor for the Comet, a member of the Frenchand Ski Clubs, and a varsity softball player for four years.She also helped coach youth softball and a volunteered inthe “penny war” to raise money for needy families atChristmas. Jessica ranked 9th in her class. She is attendingBoston University majoring in communications.

Steven Tyler, son of Josephine Lee Tyler ’83, wasan honor student, a member of the Math League, Principal’sCabinet, SADD, Best Buddies, and Peer Tutoring. He was avolunteer at Yale New Haven Hospital, East Haven FoodPantry and the West Haven Community House. He ranked10th in the class and is attending SCSU majoring in nursing.

Mary-Lynn Luzzi, daughter of John and PeggyDimichele Luzzi ‘78 was a cheerleader for four years and amember of the tennis team. She was on the YearbookCommittee, Principal’s Cabinet, Student Council, and wasnamed East Haven Courier Sports Person of the Week. Shewas also a student intern at Deer Run School and a youthcheerleading coach. Mary-Lynn ranked 14 in the class andis attending Mitchell College and majoring in Early Education

Camron DiNatale, son of Joseph DiNatale ’75,attended the Educational Center of the Arts for music vocals/theory and composition during his four years at EHHS. He isinvolved in church activities and sings at various venues inbands as a solo or duo. He ranked 20th in the class and isattending the University of New Haven.

Frank Crisafi ‘41 was a recipient ofthe 2007 Mayor’s Merit Award.

John Brereton ’44 was named EastHaven Courier Person of the Week lastNovember. Jack is a former Town Clerkand is very active as a volunteer andpast president of the East Haven His-torical Society.

Steve Narracci ’49 was inducted intothe Connecticut Football Officials As-sociation Hall of Fame last April.

Dr. Peter Barile ‘61, professor emeri-tus of SCSU, is now the principal of St.Bernadette School.

Carol Pompano ’63 was re-elected toanother term as treasurer of the South-ern Connecticut Chapter of the PublicRelations Society of America, a profes-sional society for public relations prac-titioners.

Jack Stacey ’67 is a social studiesteacher at The High School in the Com-munity. He is the President of the Cor-vette Club of Connecticut, is active inthe Democrat Party, American Legion,Vietnam Veterans, and is a past recipi-ent of the Mayor’s Award.

Anthony Serio ‘68 was named Personof the Week by the East Haven Cou-rier in July.

Sue Connor Stacey ’69 is employed byAT & T, is a member of the St. Vincentde Paul School Board, and is a Eucha-ristic Minister.

Sharon DiCrosta ‘69 is co-owner ofthe Dancers’ Studio in North Haven.

Sal Annunziata ’78 is a partner in asoftware company called Nexgen. Theyprovide Public Safety Software to over40 CT Police Departments. Last yearthey signed an eight year contract withthe Department of Public Safety for theCT State Police.

She is attending the University ofBridgeport and majoring in Dental Hygiene.
