peddler was arrested along withlarge quantity of intoxicantinjections and tablets.

As per police sources, onspecific information, police teamfrom Pacca Danga police stationconducted a raid in Patel Bazararea and nabbed a drug peddler.

On his disclosure, policerecovered 472 intoxicant injec-tions and 350 tablets from the area,where he kept the consignment.

The accused has been identi-fied as Deepak alias Deepu, sonof Raman Kumar, a resident ofPatel Bazaar.

He is a drug addict and alsouse to sell the narcotics amongthe masses especially youths to

make them drug addict. With thearrest of the accused, policeachieved a major success.

A case under Narcotic drugsand Psychotropic Substances(NDPS) Act has been registeredagainst the accused at PaccaDanga police station and investi-gation started.

Manohar flays Govt for slowresponse on Pak- shelling

JAMMU, Oct 26: FormerMinister and PCC general secre-tary, Dr Manohar Lal Sharmahas criticized the StateGovernment and Administrationfor its `slow response ' inreaching out to the affected peo-ple after unprovoked firing byPakistani troops on the villagescloser to the international bor-der in Samba and Kathua areas.

In a press statement issuedhere today the former MoS,who also paid visit to certainaffected areas today, said thatdue to the Pakistani shelling,massive damage has beencaused to the property of the vil-lagers on this side.

While appreciating thecourage of the border villagers,the PCC leader assured all pos-sible help to the affected peoplefrom Congress party. He alsosaid that Congress would takeup the matter at higher level in

the administration for takingmore effective and immediatemeasures at the earliest.

Dr Sharma strongly demand-ed to shift the people from theaffected areas immediately inorder to prevent the further lossof life, proper arrangement oftheir food, transportation andgrant of adequate compensationto the affected families for theloss of property and live stockperished in shelling. He allegedthat the slackness on the part ofGovernment and local adminis-tration has caused much damageto the people residing in borderareas.

The Congress leaderexpressed deep anguish over theattitude of administration andcriticized the attitude of the BJPleadership at the Centre andCoalition regime in the State fornot shifting people to the saferplaces in time and provide themproper shelter, food and medi-cines.

MCA Deptt of BhaderwahCampus organizes Tech Quiz

MCA Department of BhaderwahCampus, University of Jammuorganized Tech Quiz competi-tion "Sanganana-2k15" for thestudents of MCA I, III & VSemesters.

35 students of the depart-ment participated in the compe-tition.

The tech quiz was conductedin two stages. The stage I wasthe elimination round in which aWritten Quiz of 30 questions in30 minutes were asked and con-ducted at the morning session.The performance was evaluatedon the number of correctanswers.

The more challenging stageII was conducted at the eveningsession in which only top 15 stu-dents were selected in fivegroups to determine the topteam. The quiz covered ques-tions on current trends in IT,Programming languages,Databases, Operating systemsand the topics related to IT.Majid Anjum, Harpreet Kourand Arjun Singh were the quizmasters. There was a tiebetween two teams. RitavProach, Abrar Ahmed andDeepali Kotwal secured second

position and Tanniya Jamwal,Mohd. Sarfraz and UpmaSharma also secured the secondposition.

Prof. G. M. Bhat, Rector ofthe Campus inspired the stu-dents and suggested them totake part in co-curricular activi-ties in addition to their academ-ics. Earlier, Sourabh Shastri, I/CHead MCA Department andOrganizing Secretary of theQuiz presented welcome adder-ess.

Six test positive for Dengue Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 26: With sixmore people today testing positivefor Dengue virus the total numberof patients affected with this vec-tor-borne disease in Jammuregion has reached to 108.

According Dr BS Pathania,Director, Health ServicesJammu, a total of 72 tests wereconducted today for Dengue outof which six turned out to bepositive. He said that all the sixinfected persons are adults (5males and 1 female).

Giving more details, DrPathania, said that out of six

Dengue infected persons threebelong to Jammu district, two toKathua and one belongs toUdhampur district.

He further disclosed that tilltoday the department conducted652 tests for Dengue out ofwhich 108 were found to be pos-itive for Dengue virus.

Dr Pathania advised the peo-ple not to store water in openutensils and allow stagnation ofwater in their surroundings, asstagnant water is a breedingground for Dengue mosquitoes.He also advised the people toprevent themselves from mos-quito bites. Power shut down

Workshop for mobileschool teachers begins

JAMMU, Oct 26: The sec-ond phase of the workshop on"Popularization of Scienceactivities under ST Plan(Project), Govt. of India" for theteachers of mobile schools ofJ&K began today atGovernment Women College,Parade, Jammu.

The inaugural function waspresided over by Prof RenuGoswami, Principal GCWParade Jammu whereas H RPakhroo, Joint DirectorTraining/Principal State Instituteof Education and ZafferullahKhan, Founder SecretaryNCURDS, were the guests ofhonour.

The workshop is the jointventure of Vigyan Prasar,Department of Science &Technology, Government of

India, Noida and NationalCouncil for Urban and RuralDevelopment Society(NCURDS), Jammu. The mainpurpose of the programme is tofoster scientific temperamentamong the teachers with mainstress on "Learning by Doing" indischarging effective teachinglearning process that ultimatelywill benefit student communi-ties.

About 50 participants fromdifferent districts of Jammuprovince (Jammu, Kathua,Samba & Ramban) are partici-pating in this four-day work-shop.

Dr Ashaq Hussain, chairmanOrganizing Committee, said thatthe program is an extension ofalready initiated programs bythe organization and here in thisprogram leftover teachers ofmobile schools across JammuDivision will be oriented.

KATRA, Oct 26: An elderlyfemale pilgrim from Delhi, diedhere today after she fell whileriding a pony near HathiMatha.

She sustained a serious headinjury and was rushed to theSagarsuri dispensary atSanjhichat where doctorsdeclared her as brought dead.

The deceased was identifiedas Anguri Devi (80), wife of LtPhool Chand of Pachim Vihar,Delhi. On the pilgrimage, shewas accompanied by her sonRoop Ram.

Meanwhile, Police StationBhawan returned threeunclaimed bags, containingmobile phones, cash and somedocuments, to their owner, whohad lost the same at Bhawanarea.

Girl killed afterhit by bike

JAMMU, Oct 26: A minorgirl was killed today after beinghit by a speeding bike atBathindi area of city outskirts.

According to a policespokesperson, the girl identifiedas Asia Bukhari (6) daughter ofRashid Ali Shah, a resident ofGovernment Quarter No 26 atGulshan Ground, Jammu, wason her way back to her maternaluncle's home along with hermother when a rashly drive bikeregistration No- JK02AQ-3208hit and left her seriously injurednear Mecca Masjid, Bathindi,this evening.

The blood ridden girl wasimmediately rushed toGovernment Medical Collegeand Hospital, Jammu, whereshe was declared as broughtdead by the doctors. The bodyof the deceased girl was shiftedto mortuary room of the hospi-tal, where post mortem will beconducted tomorrow.

A case in this connection hasbeen registered at concernedpolice station and further inves-tigations are underway.

Army jawan killedin road mishap

JAMMU, Oct 26: An armyjawan was killed after the motorbike bearing number JK0AE-7117 on which he was travelingwas hit by a car bearing num-ber UK 14 A 543 while he wascrossing the Highway nearDayala Chak to Rajpora thisevening.

He has been identified asSham Lal, 28, S/o Dila Ram ofRajpora in Kathua district. Hefell down in a pool of blood,police said. He was rushed toHiranagar District Hospital bythe people where doctorsdeclared him as brought dead.

The three car borne youthfled from the spot in a privatebus leaving the car behind.Hiranagar Police has registereda case under relevant Sectionsof the Law and seized the carsaid Investigating OfficerGangu Ram.

He said the dead body hasbeen kept in D H Hiranagarand it will be handed over tofamily tomorrow after post-mortem and completion ofother formalities.

Man’s body recovered from Kalidhar forest

AKHNOOR, Oct 26: Thedead body of a middle-agedman was recovered from forestarea of Chowki Chora, inKalidhar Ranges of districtJammu today.

A police spokesman said thata nomad informed police atChowki Chora in the morningthat dead body of a male waslying in the jungle near TurgalaDevsthan. The police party led bySI Kuldeep Khajuria, in-chargePolice Post, Chowki Chorareached the spot. The policefound that a dog was also roam-ing around the body and someportion of the face had been eatenby the animals. The deceased wasclad in black Jeans pants and blueT-shirt. The police shifted thebody to the mortuary of GMCHospital, Jammu and startedinvestigation. He appeared to bein the age group of 32-35 years.

tion of Kashmiri Pandits repre-senting various organizationsled by M K Yogi submitted amemorandum to Relief andRehabilitation Commissioner, RK Pandita and demanded imme-diate revocation of orderregarding issuance of rationcoupons on monthly basis.

The delegation also submitted amemrandum to ReliefCommissioner and sought immedi-ate cancellation of the order in thisregard as it has led a lot of resent-ment among the relief holders.

The delegation warned thatthe displaced people will cometo streets in case the order wasnot revoked by the Government.

The delegation alsodemanded bifurcation of rationcards, inclusion of left overmembers in the ration cards,issuance of RBA certificatesand other related problems ofdisplaced people. The delega-tion also sought immediateintervention of Chief MinisterMufti Mohammad Sayeed andRelief and RehabilitationMinister, Basharat Bukhari.
