Sometimes you have to come to a conclusion when you don’t have all the facts. You can use the clues given to help you make an inference (a guess based on known facts).

Read each sentence and choose an inference for each one.

Your neighbors just drove away with their suitcases and skis.

• Your neighbors are moving away.

• They are going to vacation at the beach.

• They will vacation in the mountains.

Your dad is in the yard with a shovel, rake, and hose.

• He is ready to paint the house.

• He is sick today.

• He is working in the garden.

Dinner is not cooking and your mom told you to clean up and put on good clothes.

• You won’t eat dinner tonight.

• You are going out for dinner.

• You are working in the garden.

You made some terrific INFERENCES!
