WELCOME FROM THE EVENT DIRECTOR
Dear Colleague,
It gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend the 2015 POWER-GEN Middle East conference & exhibition, taking place in Abu Dhabi from 4-6 October. The event is taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre under the gracious Patronage of H.E. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, UAE.
Over the years, POWER-GEN Middle East has tracked the rapid expansion of power generation in the region, brought together leading players to discuss the strategic issues and ensured that every major technical advance and development has been presented, both in the conference and on the exhibition floor. And this year, we are delighted to have full support and endorsement from the UAE Ministry of Energy and the region’s largest power utility Saudi Electricity Company. The event also benefits from the additional support of the Middle East Association , the Independent Power Producers Forum and the Bahrain Electricity & Water Authority.
The conference will feature over 80 regional and international experts addressing the current power challenges, with informative presentations and panel discussions that explore the latest trends, technologies and developments. These include two high-level Panel Discussions - Tariff Reforms & Challenges and Renewable Opportunities.
Alongside the conference, the exhibition floor will feature the UAE Ministry of Energy, Saudi Electricity Company and the Bahrain Electricity & Water Authority, as well as many world-class power producers and suppliers showcasing their latest technology and services. I am also delighted to launch for the first time at POWER-GEN Middle East, a business matchmaking service - POWER-GEN Connect, and Exhibitor Presentation Theatre, which will be open to all attendees.
POWER-GEN Middle East provides the platform for the international power community to meet and receive vital information first hand about power industry opportunities and challenges in the region. The event offers a unique forum to participate in meeting the region’s power needs by putting professionals face-to-face with key decision makers and providing the best possible opportunity to share ideas, meet new contacts and build business relationships.
This Preliminary Event Guide will help you plan your visit to the show and can direct you to all the ways in which you can register to attend as a delegate or visitor or take part as an exhibiting company. Please check the website for the full conference programme and exhibitor listings.
We look forward to welcoming you to POWER-GEN Middle East 2015, where a wealth of information and networking awaits you, giving you the opportunity to be part of the exponential growth in the power sector in the GCC and elsewhere in the Middle East region.
Best regards,
Nigel BlackabyEvent Director

Under the theme “Sharing Technology Innovation”, POWER-GEN Middle East will address key issues affecting the region’s electricity market and provide pioneering and practical solutions to expand energy efficiency, technological excellence and implementation of smart solutions tailored to Middle East’s power industry. Attendees will have the choice of 19 strategic and technical Conference Sessions as well as two brand new event components on the exhibition floor- a dedicated Exhibitor Presentation Theatre featuring live exhibitor demonstrations plus a new Business Matchmaking Service.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to make crucial contacts with senior decision makers as 3,000 industry professionals convene from over 70 different countries for this truly international power forum.
ABU DHABI - A MAJOR ENERGY HUB
The 13th annual POWER-GEN Middle East conference and exhibition returns to Abu Dhabi, UAE, a reowned global energy hub.
l In the GCC, power generating capacity will need to rise by an estimated 64 GW to 176.5 GW by 2020 requiring an investment of $40-45 billion.
l Power industry experts are debating about how GCC countries can meet the estimated 6 to 10 per cent annual surge in demand for power, which is around 8 GW of additional capacity. GCC countries are projected to invest more than $300 billion in some 20 energy projects by 2020
l Electricity demand in the MENA countries is set to grow at an average annual rate of 7 per cent per year, So far, 75 GW of renewable energy projects worth $200 billion are already in the pipeline, making the region a global power player in the sector. The surge in investment is attributed to the growing energy consumption in the Middle East, the highest in the world next to Asian countries
l The MENA region falls into the category of ‘physical water scarcity’ with water supplies depleting at one of the quickest rates in the world, creating requirements for desalination capacity.
