I. INTRODUCTION
Packaging is the set of techniques for containing, protecting and preserving
products during storage, handling and distribution.
a. Role
- Maintain quality by preserving the products of damage (damage)
- Ensure the possibility of self-service
- Give the guarantee of the transport services
b. Function
- Contribute to maintaining the degree of product sterility
- Contribute to the psycho-chemical stability of the product
c. Choice
There are several criteria for the choice of packaging. In relation to the theme of
today, we have chosen those related to the conservation of the environment:
- Choose the crushable packaging to avoid pollution;
- recycling packaging;
- Can be cremated but without toxic emanation;
- Biodegradable;

II. OVERVIEW OF PLASTICS AND BIODEGRADABLE PACKAGING
A. Plastic packaging
Delayed environment, human health in danger.
Mistakes against the environment and nature pay cash! Let's be careful.
For decades, the DRC has been confronted with pollution from plastic bags and
packaging due to their heavy use in all sectors.
Practical and less expensive, non-biodegradable plastic bags have reached an
extraordinary use.
1. The suffering environment
Plastics influence many thousands of life and their consequences on the
environment are multiple:
• Aesthetic / visual pollution
The plastic bags, once used, are hundreds of millions in the nature, very often
thrown and / or carried by the wind. They are everywhere strewn on soils, beaches,
along rivers, the lake and even in trees; leading to landscape degradation and
destruction of biodiversity.
• Atmospheric pollution
African pollution, to reduce sachets, incineration for lack of infrastructure,
recycling and treatment; yet the product of the incineration of plastic bags is
carbon dioxide and water vapor reinforcing the greenhouse effect and contributing
to the phenomena of global warming which constitutes one of the major
environmental problems for which the whole world is mobilized. According to
firefighters, 10 kilos of plastics that burn are 25m3 of smoking.

• Modification of ecosystems
According to several studies, plastic bags whose lifespan varies between 100 and
400 years depending on the conditions have harmful effects on the aquatic fauna
and flora. In the aquatic environment, it causes the modification of ecosystems by
preventing the penetration of the light carrying necessary for photosynthesis of
living organisms.
• Threat to animals and plants
According to research, 30% of livestock mortality is attributed to plastic bags due
to their indigestion on animals. For example, in Togo, high chickens and sheep
have been found to die of stomach obstruction after having mistaken plastics for
worms and leaf tips.
In plants, these plastics asphyxiate the soil and constitute a brake on plant growth,
thus favoring the wilting of the plates.
• Flood
Research has shown that mismanagement of plastic bags can also lead to flooding
with clogging of runoff water.
2. Human health in danger
Petroleum-based product and many other components, plastic poses a great threat
to human health.
• Cancer and malformation
The smoke produced by the incineration of the plastic bags contains carcinogenic
dioxin, notes a specialist of the human health which specifies that the plastic bag
causes the cancer.
Indeed, this toxic gas attacks lungs and hormones, causing cancer or malformations
in newborns.

• Reproductive problem
Chemical substances present in plastic bags would be accused of falling sperm
quality and diseases related to the genital tract through indoctrin disturbances. The
two incriminated elements: Phthalate and Bisphenol A.
• Diabetes and cardiovascular disease
The American Medical Association had published on a conclusive study on an
increase in the concentration of bisphenol A (B.P.A) in urine increased 39% risk of
diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
• Food poisoning
Chemical substances present in the plastic bag migrate to food, especially when
they are hot.
2. TO REMEMBER
- Avoid discarding plastic packaging around tracks, in gutters but rather in the
places indicated to facilitate collection and recycling.
- Avoid burning the plastic bag to make the cooking fire.
B. Biodegradable packaging
Nowadays, there are packaging that respects the environment, it is biodegradable
and composable packaging.
Made from natural and renewable raw materials, plastic packaging is CO2 neutral.
We recognize three great benefits:
- They are made from renewable materials and even agricultural waste;
- Production emits significantly less CO2;
- Can be composted, which makes a complete cycle.

Need to find an alternation
CFN and the Association ABEFA (Acting for the Wellbeing of the Child and the
Family) in its program of the manufacture of fire lights "SAIDIA" to fight against
the use of small pinus tree sticks and plastic bags to make the fire took the
initiative of shaping packaging from the papers commonly known as "bizeta" in
order to reduce the risks involved. In the same vein, we also welcome the decision
of the Congolese Minister of Industry Remy MUSUNGAI, prohibiting the import,
manufacture and marketing of plastic bags
So, we organized training in the manufacture of paper packaging.
1. Definition:
A) Packaging;
B) Paper: material made from dough of rags or vegetable fiber spread in layers of
threats that are made dry and begin with a sheet to write; print or wrap.
C) Shaping: all the operations done to give a shape to any material
D) Cut: it is a plane gives to a thing to show the relative dimension and the details.
E) Dimension: measure of a thing to each direction of the space; combination of
fundamental unit in which a value is measured
F) Measure: rule with wisdom
II. CHOICE OF MATERIALS TO USE
II.1. GENERAL CONTEXT
Materials are sets of materials and tools necessary for the manufacture, design,
creation or production of a good.
The choices of these materials depend on the product to be manufactured; here we
must choose the materials to use because the quality of the good we will reproduce
depends on the choice we will use here it is shaping the paper packaging.
And so the choice of materials to use will be based on paper.

II.2. DIFFERENT MATERIALS USED IN THE PRODUCTION OF
PACKAGING
a) Paper: There are several categories and shapes of paper according to the use that
will be made of it (image)
b)
Chisel and or trimmer: There are two types of chisel for packaging: single and
toothed
c) Latte / rule;
graduated pens
d) Liquid collar
CFN-ABEFA | Community Efforts to Reduce Plastic Pollution with Sustainable Packaging, page 9
Choose the collar for his paper; there are several according to the uses. How to
determine an effective collar by the files: it is from the teeth of the hand and the
index, to put the drop of hand on the index, by flying to break it; one easily feels its
adhesion if it adhered on the right very quickly, it is the best to stick the papers for
the packaging in the opposite case not to use. It's by other collage.
III. DIMENSION OF DIFFERENT PAPER FOR PACKAGING
Packing papers dissolve the markets are of various dimensions the gold of the
measurement and the cut, it makes to be for not to have some useful part that
served to waste the long ones after a constant fact, the width and lengths of the
papers for packaging was not the same from one to another and from one factory to
another.

II TECHNICAL PART
CHAP. I. SCIENTIFIC DRAWING
How to measure ??
With the aid of a graduated slat: according to the measures to be taken, determine
on the wrapping paper the width and length and width of its own packaging.
GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION
NB: After shaping, the lengths and widths obtained will be the last materials on the
packaging; it will be possible to visualize 3 Peaks A, B, C and each with its last
and existed couple C.
WARNING: parts B and C often complicate and they require vigilance and
concentration !!!
