Project summary

The participants will develop a project which promotes the learning of foreign languages, the

Intercultural Dialogue and the European dimension in the teaching process. The project activities will

focus on water as source of life, a cross-curricular topic which allows the involvement of students of all

ages and all teachers.

The students will be the main characters of the project and deal with various water-related aspects in

their own territory: weather/climatic conditions; natural environment; springs; ways to save/re-use

water: rainwater cisterns/tanks; house water recycling; water bottling; water and health; water in myths,

literature, folk tales, art; pollution (waste-water, water cleaners); renewable energy; tourism: thermal

waters and spas; floods (causes and solutions); living under the water level (Netherlands); fundamental

constructions: dams/dikes/bridges; fishing; water sports; transport modes; irrigation systems and

canals; shipyards; navigation companies.

The students (in groups) will keep constant contacts and exchange ideas/opinions. During the project

meetings the students will introduce their own approaches to water and involve the European peers in

practical activities (learning by doing).

The students will create a website showing the main activities and outcomes.

They will analyze, point out and, above all, learn to appreciate the differences/similarities among the

different cultures.

They will be aware that water is an essential part of our life and has to be preserved.
