Creating a ‘DonorChoose Project’ Request1. CalRTA members help
teachers create ‘Project’ requests.
2. Classroom goals and materials are listed that students need to learn. 3. Each ‘Project’ is placed online at DonorsChoose where donors are sent ‘Thank You’ notes from the teacher and students. 7

How are projects funded?1. Each of us can donate funds to any project at Donorschoose.org.
2. Anyone can choose a project to fund and support.
3. When a project is funded, DonorsChoose.org purchases the materials and sends them to the teacher’s school and classroom.
4. The teacher and students send “Thank You Notes” to each donor via DonorChoose.org.

How DonorsChoose.org Works• Teachers request specific materials.• DonorsChoose.org vets every project.
• Donors and foundations contribute to the project.
• When fully funded, DonorsChoose.org orders the materials and sends them directly to the school.
• They also notify the school that the materials are coming.

Teaching Technology with LEGOsGrant request: I need LEGO Machine Kits. My
students will understand how to code and program.
Student and community profiles:• Title I school with low-income families and below poverty
level.• Most students qualify for free lunch.• Many children are second language learners. • There are few jobs in our community. • We have one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the
nation. • Only 13% of our population has a Bachelor's degree.• My students are born into an environment with so many
obstacles, but they come to school and are eager to learn daily. 11
