STEP1

Askoneofthegroupstoreportbackandthenfindouthowsimilarordifferenttheothergroups’ ideasare. Repeatwiththe imagesandques2onsonpages3and4.

Ifyourstudentshaven’tworkedoutthatthethreepeopleareafamily,tellthemand display page 5. Ask them (pairs/groups) to complete the gaps in thesentenceswithawordorphraseandfinishthesecondsentenceinaninteres2ngway, i.e.NOT When her parents buy her a present for Christmas, she is veryhappy.

STEP3

Askeachpair/group to choosea spokesperson to tell the restof theclasshowtheycompletedthesentences.

STEP4

Say that they’re going towatch a video inwhich they’ll find outwhat BridgetlovesandwhatshegotforChristmas.Tellstudentstowatchcloselyandplaythevideo(withoutsound)fromthebeginningun2l01:30. ARerwards,askstudentswhichwordsshouldgointhegapsnow.Letthemuseadic2onarytolookupthesecondwordifnecessary(jumpingorbouncing/trampoline).

STEP5

Tellstudentsthatyouaskedthemtowatchtheclipcloselybecausethey’regoingtoanswersomeobserva2onques2ons.Dividetheclassintotwogroups,AandB.Beforeyouhandouttheques2ons(page7),explainthattheyshouldlookupthemeaning of new vocabulary and then decide with their group whether thestatementsaretrueorfalse.Givethemthehandoutsandletthemgetonwithit.

STEP6

ARerwardsplay the clipun2l01:30again (without sound) so that students canchecktheiranswerstothetrue/falsequesions.Givethemaminutetomakesurethateveryone intheirgroupagrees,buttell themtodo itquietlybecuasetheydon’twanttheothergrouptooverheartheiranswers.

STEP7

STEP8PairastudentfromgroupAwithonefromgroupB.StudentAshouldreadtheirfirstsentencetostudentBandaskifit’strueofalse.StudentBaskstheirpartnertoexplainnewvocabularyifnecessaryandanswers.ThenStudentBreadstheirfirst sentence to StudentA and they con2nueun2l they’ve each answered thefourques2ons.

STEP9

Tell students that they’regoingto thinkabout thesoundstheymightexpect tohearintheclip.Displaythewordsonpage6andgetstudentstoworkingroupstolookupthemeaninganddecidewhetherthesesoundsareheardinthevideo.Iftheyare,whoorwhatmakesthesounds?

STEP10 When students have finished, have a vote onwhether each soundwill appearandaskthosewhovoteyestoexplainwhy.Nowaskstudentswhatmusicorsongtheywouldincludeintheclip.Givethemacoupleofminutestodecideinpairsandthengetsomefeedback.Alterna2vely,playthirtysecondsorsoofthesongthatwasusedandtwoothers(e.g.SilentNight andJumpAround)andgetstudentstovoteontheonetheythinkthey’llhear.

Playtheclipwithsound.Studentsiden2fythesongandlistenoutforthesoundsfromthepreviousstep.Stopat01:30andaskstudentstopredictwhathappens.Playtherestoftheclipandaskstudentswhattheythoughtoftheadvert.

Aswell as the vocabulary from the observa2on and sound ac2vi2es, hopefullystudentshaveaskedformorevocabularyduringthelesson.Tofinishoff,getthemtochoosefivewordsorphrasesthatarenewforthemandwritethemdownonapieceofpaper.Theyrankthemfrommostdifficulttoleastdifficulttorememberandthencomparetheir listwithapartner.FInally, tell themto fold theirpaperup,putitintheirpocketandbeforetheygotobed,takeitoutoftheirpocketandseeiftheycans2llrememberthemeaningsofthewords.
