Research
Do non-custodial parental relationships deteriorate, how does this impact child development?
1. All studies concur with respect to the important impact both parents have on their child
2. Inevitable decreases in the opportunity of good mental health and development of the child where one parent is absent.
3. Separation is an indicator to poor mental health in children
4. All research regarding child-development indicates the importance of father-child bonding
What are the mental health benefits of Gardening?
1. The gardeners demonstrated significantly higher levels of self-determined health, especially in the realm of collective efficacy.
2. Improved for all demographics during the program was social interaction.
3. Tangible improvements in life skills from gardening.
Program Objectives:• Altering the evidential failure of child and non-custodial parental connections with
community support.
• Effectively aiding the healthy development of children from divorced/separated
families by means of focusing on encouraging the
maintenance and strength of the relationship between the
non-custodial parents and the child.
• Increasing the opportunity of good mental health and
development of the child, through the process of socially supported eco-
therapy for tandem groups of parent/child.
“over 70,000 Canadian marriages ending in divorce yearly” and our research stated; “over 31,764 of divorces involved custody agreements”
Statistics Canada. (2006).

• Initial Employee Positions
• Program Coordinator
• All aspects of general operations including but not limited to;
• report and grant writing, general administration, volunteer coordination, registry of new participants to the program, and ordering supplies.
• Volunteer position
• someone with a comprehensive understanding of gardening
• help participants, answer questions, and to be available to check on the plants
Budget
• Our final preliminary budget total is $25,946.80. We are hiring a full time program coordinator, and seeking one volunteer. The rest of the equipment is dependent on stakeholders and donations. We have spoken with Home Depot, which, on condition of our funding, be able to contribute half of gardening supplies. We are also contacting local farmers requesting donations for seeds.
• The plot fee is conditional on our office space. Ideally, we are seeking an office space that includes an outdoor plot for use. However, if not, the plot will be $200 for the growing season.
• For the third party evaluators, we have researched this, and the going rate is usually 15-20% of what we are asking for funding. If we take our total and roughly divide by 15% the total would be $3892.02 – this is what we would be paying the third party evaluators.
