A student can keep terms simultaneously for two examinations, provided that the student should take regular admission for one of the examinations and for another examination he/she should keep terms under distance education mode and further provided that there is no overlap/clash between the examination schedules of the two examinations.
The candidate willing to keep terms for two examinations should apply to the University distance section along with proofs of regular admission and details furnishing information about second course that he/she wants to complete.
All such applications shall be scrutinized by the Deans committee and the applications with those combinations, which are not affecting the examinations schedule of University will be approved. These candidates should submit their prescribed application form with requisite fees within seven days from the receipt of approval letter. In case of any overlap/clash between the examination schedule of the two examinations on account of any change in any of the schedule made by the University, it will be the concerned students option/discretion to appear for the exam of his/her choice. Also complement/request for change in the exam schedule will not be entertained by the University.

B. Com. Degree Programme
• Objectives of the B.Com. Programme
To provide opportunity for higher education to those people (for example farmers,
businessmen, workers, housewives etc. those who are in service) who could not
complete their education earlier.
• B.Com. Programme Structure
The duration of the course is three years divided into six semesters. There will be
semester examination in Oct./Nov. & March/April for all the semesters. Each Semester
have Six Subjects.

The medium for the B.Com. Programme is available in Marathi and English

• B. Com. Part-I (Semester I & II) (CBCS)
The rules of minimum eligibility applicable for admitting regular students in the
affiliated colleges of S.U. are also applicable to Distance Mode learners pursuing
B.Com. Part-I (Ref. No./S.U./Eligibility/156/9-6-2004)
Any candidate fulfilling any one of the following eligibility criteria is entitled to take
admission for B. Com.-I.

• Self Instructional Material (SIM)
The Centre for Distance Education has developed Self Instructional Material (SIM)
with a view to help the distance learner in his learning process for selective subjects
offered through distance mode.
The features of SIM developed by CDE are as follows:
1. Available in English and Marathi Language
2. Easy and Simple language
3. Use of examples and diagrams, pictures, etc.
4. Distribution of a unit into small sections and sub-sections for better
understanding of a content based on the objectives.
5. Self Assessment/Practice questions after each section/unit.
The SIM will be provided to the distance learners permanently and this SIM will
remain lifelong with the learners. The learners will also be benefitted from the guidance
and counseling sessions for each subject from subject experts at the approved and
authorized Study Centres of CDE which are also the affiliated colleges of Shivaji
University, Kolhapur. This is an effort to avoid any differentiation between regular

Objectives of the M.Com. Programme
The course is developed for the students willing to improve their professional and
management expertise.
M.Com. Programme Structure
The duration of the course is Two years divided into four semesters. There will be
semester examination in Oct/Nov & March/April for all the semesters. Each Semester
have four Subjects.
Medium
The medium for the M.Com. Programme is only in English Language.

Eligibility Criteria:
Any person who has taken the degree of the Bachelor of Commerce of this
University or of any other University recognized by this University as equivalent thereto
may after he has worked under the guidance of a recognized University Teacher or at
least two years subsequent to his passing the Bachelor of Commerce Examination, be
admitted to the examination, for the Degree of Master of Commerce in accordance with
the relevant Regulations.

General Rules for M. Com. Course
1. Implementation of semester system - It was decided that the semester system
should be implemented gradually as mentioned below-
M.Com. Part – I - Sem-I & Sem-II from Academic year 2016-17
M.Com. Part – II - Sem-III & Sem-IV from Academic year 2014- 15
2. Pattern of semester system – It was decided to accept 80:20 patterns for the
purpose of semester examinations.
3. Scheme of internal assessment - The committee took note of the UGC guidelines
and recommended to have continuous internal assessment for M.Com. Programme.
Internal Examination will be compulsory for all students. If a student fails /
remains absent in internal Examination then he / she will have to clear the internal
Examination in subsequent attempt/s.
The following scheme for internal assessment was prepared.
The Question paper in each semester (for each paper) shall be of 100 marks
wherein 80-20 patterns will be accepted. For this purpose following will be the pattern
for internal assessment scheme i) M.Com. Part – I and II- the 80:20 Pattern will be
applicable to Distance education students. However, for internal work there will be
Home assignment of 20 marks for each paper of all semesters.

4. Duration of semester examination for each paper - The duration of semester
examination for each paper of 80 marks shall be of three hours.
5. Standard of passing- The Standard of passing shall be 40% where the student will
have to score 32 marks out of 80 (Compulsory) and 8 Marks out of 20 (optional) in
each paper. There will be a combined head of passing in Theory i.e. university
exam and Internal Examination is 40 marks out of 100 marks.
6. Result - The result of each semester should be declared as Pass or Fail.
7. There will be independent Question Paper for M. Com. Distance Mode
Examination of the paper Research Methodology Paper No. VI and VIII of 100
marks (80-20). Syllabus for the same is on university website.

Rules for Distance Learners / Students:
1. The distance learners/students enrolling for various Distance Mode courses through
the approved Study Centres and the Head Quarters, Centre for Distance Education
(CDE) are instructed to carefully read the advertisement regarding Admissions
published in local newspapers and displayed on University website
www.unishivaji.ac.in/ distance education home page. They are also advised to read
the notifications displayed on the notice boards of CDE and its approved Study
Centres regarding Admissions, Examinations, Assignments, and Results etc. and
then enroll themselves for the particular course.
2. Students should read the Prospectus and then only fill in the Admission form and
select the subjects. Once the subjects are selected, then it will not be allowed to

change later. Hence the Students should select the subjects and their relevant
subject codes on their own responsibility.
3. CDE does not prepare Self Instructional Material (SIM) for all the Optional papers.
Students have to take the SIM prepared for the subjects they have selected. If SIM
is not available for a subject selected by the student, then the relevant SIM fee will
be charged; but the responsibility of learning and preparing for the subject solely
lies with the students.
4. Examination Time Tables, Hall Tickets, Seating Arrangements, Results etc are
displayed on the University website. Hall Tickets will available only online in soft
form in student login. Students are informed to check the website from time to time
for the relevant details and information on following website-

P. G. Diploma in Translation
The course is dealing with translation from and into English, Marathi and Hindi of
scientific papers, legal documents, literary work, news items, letters, proposals, reports
etc.
Eligibility for Admission
1. Any graduate can take admission
2. T.C./M.C. is not required
3. If the distance learner is pursuing regular P. G. Course, bonafide from the
institution is required
4. If the distance learner is employed, certificate from the employer certifying
employment is required.

The course comprises of 400 marks

Standard of Passing
1. In theory papers Minimum Passing standard is 40% marks are to be obtained
2. In Project and Viva-Voce the same passing standard is applicable i.e. 40% Passing
i.e. 28 marks out of 70 in Project work and 12 marks out of 30 in Viva-Voce are
necessary for passing.

The students are allowed to write answers in any one of the languages, i.e. Marathi

Self Instructional Material
The self Instruction Material (SIMs) are developed in Marathi language. The SIMs
will be given to the admission taken students.
Prospects
After completing the P.G. Diploma in Translation Course, the students will be
eligible for appointment as translator in government offices, private firms or they can
independently pursue the profession of Translator.

2. The distance learners of P. G. Diploma in Translation have to attend the 10 contact
sessions arranged in the CDE building Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

3. Theory Papers examination will be conducted in the CDE building Kolhapur.
4. The students have to complete the Project work under the guidance of allotted
project guide.
5. The completed project, signed by the project guide is to be submitted before the
theory examination starts. (Two copies)
6. After the approval of project work by the external examiner, Viva-Voce will be
conducted in CDE building. The students have to face the Viva-Voce.
7. If the external examiner does not approve the project work or suggests some
changes, the student should resubmit the project work accordingly. If the
performance of the student is not found satisfactory in the Viva-Voce he/she should
give the performance again according to the suggestions of the experts.
8. When the result of Project & Viva-Voce is ready then only the result will declared.
9. The fee will be charged according to the fee structure at the time of admission.
