1 overview
World’s power is notcompletely held by the countriesfrom the Northern hemisphere(America and Europe). Theupcoming powers from countriesof the Southern hemisphere havegiven a balance to it. Brazil, Chinaand India emerge as developingcountries which are ready toovertake the North’s power.
One region which is expected tobecome the giant power is theASEAN region, as this region hasvast oceans, abundance in naturalresources, and diverse socialculture. Having the similar socialbackground, diversity in culture andhigh sense of brotherhood make the10 Nations in South East Asia cometogether as ASEAN.
ASEAN Open Community 2015becomes one of the apex offreedom in ASEAN nations. Thisglobalization involves more than 3main sectors: politics, economyand socio-culture. Another sectorwhich will have a great impact isthe science and technologysectors. The development ofscience and technology in ASEANis not as fast as that in developedcountries; however, thedevelopment in this sector wouldbe a great support for the othersectors in facing ASEAN OpenCommunity 2015.Similar social background, economic growth and thedevelopment of science andtechnology in South East Asiacould be an indication of theequality between ASEAN nations. An interesting concept is to seehow students as agent of changetake part in ASEAN OpenCommunity 2015
According to this, the StudentUnion of Mathematics andNatural Sciences FacultyGadjah Mada Universityinitiates to gather ASEANsciences and technologystudents to develop scienceand technology in South EastAsia to discuss three sectors, ,that are energy, science andtechnology development andenvironment.
