HOW MANY CHOICES ARE THERE?
8TH grade students have to decide on 15 course selections and one alternate for their freshman year
These selections can come from 32 different courses offered to 9th grade students
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Indiana has four diploma types
General diploma
CORE 40 diploma (default diploma)
Core 40 with Academic Honors diploma
Core 40 with Technical Honors diploma
The Core 40 Diploma 40 credits are required for graduation from LPHS and
must come from the following areas:
Language Arts 8 credits Social Studies 6 credits Mathematics 6 credits Science 6 credits Health and Wellness 1 credit Physical Education 2 credits Preparing for College and Careers 1 credit Directed Electives 5 credits General Electives 5 credits

One trimester only All freshmen are required to take course
So, What Are My Course Choices?
All freshmen (9th graders) must take:
◦ 3 sections of English (Eng. 9A & Eng.9B and Eng.9-Plus)◦ 2-3 sections of Math(ISTEP Algebra I–1, 2, 3, Algebra I–1, 2, 3 or Accelerated Geometry 1,2)◦ 2 sections of either Biology or Earth Science◦ 1 section Preparing for College and Careers
Other Course Selections English ---- Debate, or Adv. Speech, Journalism
Science --- Principles of Biomedical Science
Social Studies --- Geography and History of the World A, B or World Civilization A, B
World Languages --- French 1, German 1, Spanish 1 (ASL can be taken starting Sophomore year)
Art --- 2-D Art, 3-D Art, or Art History
Music --- Concert Band 1, 2, 3; Concert Orchestra 1, 2, 3; or, Beginning Chorus A, B, C
Family/Consumer Sciences --- Fashion/Textiles 1,2; or Interpersonal Relations
Industrial Technology --- Intro to Communications 1, 2; Intro to Transportation A, B; Intro to Construction A, B; Introduction to Engineering Design 1,2; Introduction to Design Processes
Physical Education --- Basic Physical Education I and II
Health and Wellness --- Health
Agriculture--- Intro. to Agriculture 1,2

Parent meeting January 17th at 6:00p.m. in LPHS Auditorium.
February 1, 2 and 3rd, HS Counselor will be at KMS 7:00am to 2:00pm to meet with students and parents as needed for assistance.
February 6, 8 and 9 HS Counselor will be at BMS 7:00am to 2:00pm to meet with students and parents as needed for assistance.
Please schedule an appointment if needed with Mrs. Barnes while she is at the middle schools. Email is preferred or call at 362-4503.
February 15 (KMS) and February 16 (BMS) HS counselors will assist MS students

Recommended
