Don Antonio's Dispatch…………
This week hopefully will be back to normal, for the most part. It seems like every week since the last week of school I have been saying, “Next week will be quieter.” So far that hasn’t happened, but hopefully this is the week. I know that our main-tenance staff is getting a lot of projects done around the school to get it ready for the end of August. I appreciate their work that often goes unnoticed, but which is so important for our parish and school. This Thursday we celebrate Sts. Peter and Paul, two of the great Apostles who gave their life in witness to Jesus. I have been to Rome numerous times (including a 5-month study abroad as a junior in college), and it is amazing to see how an uneducated fisherman and a former Pharisee could change the course of world history by talking to others about Jesus. Of course, they never saw that change while on earth. Rome was a city with rampant sexual immorality, political corruption and intrigue, senseless murders and violence at the time of Sts. Peter and Paul; in some ways, not unlike the City of Flint. Imagine what transformations could take place if we had the same zeal as Sts. Peter and Paul when it comes to telling others about Jesus! Saturday I will be in Adrian at my former parish for a wedding. Last week I was in Saginaw for a wedding of a teacher from Lansing Catholic. It is a great honor and very humbling to see how those in my past parishes still seek me out to celebrate the sacraments with and for them when I can. Msgr. George Michalek, the Judicial Vicar of the Diocese, will have confessions and Mass on Saturday. Please welcome him warmly.

These Boots Are Made For Walking
So, while I was up north in Alpena fishing last weekend with 7-8 Catholic men and their boys, ranging in age from middle school to college graduate, the topic of Father Anthony came up. Here are a few quotes from the young men who have known him for some time:
“Oh man, absolutely love him” “Dude, those boots! When he wears them he means
business” “Never seen a priest as cool as him.” I found it fascinating and reassuring to see the young college men of our future church embracing this new generation of priest. Hopefully, Father Anthony will keep those boots grounded here for a while as we continue to grow our church. The family and I are in Ocean City, NJ this weekend! The school year is over and the planning and preparation for next year has begun. I am so excited about the upcoming changes to our school next year! We will break ground for our new playground in July, we are rolling out a new science curriculum (focused on engineering and the scientific process) for all our students K-8, the staff already created their goals for next year (that’s how awesome they are), and we are doing some painting to freshen the place up! So for now my boots need to take a walk on the beach with my wife. I’m tired and need a break to refresh my mind and prepare to refocus. I have just completed my ninth year here as principal and feel that this last year is without a doubt the single greatest year during my entire educational profession. It is also the last time I write an article during the 2016-2017 school year. Next week’s article will be the first article for our 2017-2018 school year. I will have been writing articles for our church and school for a decade at that point. That sounds pretty awesome.
