Hubbell Building Automation, Inc. (HBA)—head-quartered in Austin, Texas— is a subsidiary of Hubbell Incorporated, a Delaware company and established leader in the electrical industry. HBA is a strong proponent of innovative, integrated, and simple energy-saving lighting controls.
In 1888, Harvey Hubbell II founded Hubbell Incorporat-ed. In 1896, he invented what is arguably the world’s fi rst lighting control device: the pull chain switch. Over one hundred years later, HBA continues this tradition of innovation with the development of networked lighting controls that not only save energy but also integrate with other building controls, such as security and HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning).
Industry Leading technology—Proven QualityFrom the industry’s fi rst self-adaptive occupancy sensor to the LX series of networked light control products, HBA has set the standards for applying technology to the business of energy-saving lighting controls.
Innovative, Integrated and SimpleHBA provides innovative, integrated, and simple light-ing control through its networked lighting controls, occupancy sensors, daylighting controls, and high bay controls.
Networked lighting controls. The LX Series provides the ultimate in harmony of technology and simplicity. Capable functional lighting control systems don’t have to be diffi cult to use or install. As lighting control systems and devices have evolved, their capabilities and functionality have grown immensely. Unfortunately, the interfaces used today for these same features and functions have not progressed at the same rate. The LX Series overcomes these limitations through the use of a GUI touch screen.
Occupancy sensors. HBA has long been the innovator in occupancy sensing technologies with the invention of both leakage-to-ground and self-adaptive sensor technologies. HBA continues to lead the way in occupancy sensor design. Today, we produce the most comprehensive line of occupancy sensor products on the market— bar none. With infrared, ultrasonic, and dual technology sensors, HBA has a product for virtually any application.
Daylighting controls. HBA produces a full line of single and multi zone daylight harvesting products for dim-ming and switching applications.
High bay controls. HBA offers the industry’s mostcapable and reliable high bay lighting controls available for both HID and fl uorescent lighting applications.

Reduce Energy CostOne of the simplest ways for facility managers and building owners to lower cost is by reducing the energy consumed by their buildings. Recent data from the California Department of Energy states that 40% of all energy costs are derived from interior and exterior lighting. Why not control it? HBA’s suite of energy sav-ing lighting control solutions lets you do just that. With solutions covering the full range of energy saving strate-gies and industry leading technology, it could not be easier. Let HBA help you get control of your energy costs.
ConvenienceWith HBA’s lighting control solutions, you will never have to think about turning out the lights again. Whether you choose occupancy sensing, daylight harvesting, time-based scheduling or a complete networked lighting control solution, you will never again have to worry whether the lights are on or off. You can rest assured that lighting will be on when required, and off when not required, providing you both energy savings and peace of mind. Now that’s convenient.
Safety and SecurityThere is no need to remember to turn lighting or signage on or off at the appropriate time. HBA’s suite of energy saving lighting control solutions will automatically turn lighting on when required, increasing both safety and security.
FlexibilityHubbell Building Automation’s lighting controls are extremely capable and fl exible, allowing them to be adapted to any application. Scheduling of on or off events, mapping of switches to control circuits, and even programming of occupancy and photo sensors can all be accomplished with a simple, easy-to-use touch screen or with your Internet browser. It just doesn’t get any easier than that.
Obtain LEED™ Certifi cation PointsLEED is a voluntary rating system sanctioned by the Unit-ed States Green Building Council (USGBC) that provides a national guideline for what constitutes a “green” building. Effi cient lighting controls may contribute to obtaining up to 18 points in 4 LEED credit categories. HBA networked lighting controls and occupancy sensors help you meet the requirements for these certifi cation points.
Comply with Building Energy CodesEnergy codes play a key role in helping to reduce energy consumption. They set the mandatory performance requirements for building construction. Most commercial energy codes have mandatory requirements that can be cost-effectively and conveniently met through the useof Hubbell Building Automation’s suiteof energy saving lighting controls.

Building Codes and Standards
hhuubbbbeelll-l-aaututoommaattiioonn..comcom

ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 StandardThe American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers Inc. (ASHRAE) and the Illumi-nating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) jointly sponsor the ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1, “En-ergy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings.” This standard encourages the use of energy effi cient lighting controls in design practice for both inte-rior and exterior lighting. Most states have or will adopt energy codes based on this standard. One of the key lighting requirements in this widely adopted standard is:
Automatic lighting shut-off:All buildings greater than 5,000 square feet must be equipped with an automatic control device to shut-off building lighting in all spaces. HBA networked lighting controls provide solutions for this requirement by automatically turning lights off based on a programmed schedule or occupancy.
IECC 2003 Lighting Control ProvisionsSimilar to ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1, the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) has been adopted by states for minimum energy effi ciency in commercial building design.
As in the ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 Standard, the IECC 2003 also has a mandatory requirement of automatic shut-off of lighting in buildings larger than 5,000 square feet. HBA networked lighting controls and occupancy sensors are the perfect solutions for this requirement. Further-more, HBA occupancy sensors provide a solution for the Light Reduction Controls requirement (Section 805.2.2.1), which states that areas having manually controlled lights must also have a manual lighting control that reduces the light level by at least 50% or an occupancy sensor can control the area.
California Energy Commission (CEC)
sevenseven
Title 24 Building StandardsThe California Energy Commission (CEC) created Cali-fornia’s 2005 Building and Energy Effi ciency Standards/Regulations for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings (Title 24), which provides mandatory lighting controls requirements for commercial and residential buildings. All HBA occupancy sensors are CEC Title 24 compliant. HBA occupancy sensors provide excellent solutions to these key Title 24 provisions:
Automatic shut-off:For every fl oor, all indoor lighting systems must be equipped with a separate automatic control to shut off the lighting.
Area control:Each area enclosed by ceiling-height partitions must have an independent switching or control device (oc-cupancy sensor or manual switch) that:
• Is readily accessible • Is located so that a person using the device can see the lights or area controlled by the switch • Is able to override other devices
Multi-level lighting control:Any enclosed space of 100 square feet or larger that has a connected lighting load greater than 0.8 watts/sq. ft., and that has more than one luminaire shall use a multi-level lighting control (control that reduces lighting power by either continuous dimming, stepped dimming, or stepped switching while maintaining a reasonably uniform level of illuminance throughout the controlled space). The multi-level lighting controls must have one control step that is between 50% and 70% of design lighting power and at least one step of minimum output operating at less than 35% of full-rated lighting system power (this could be completely off ). HBA occupancy sensors that switch alternate rows of lights are a solution for this requirement.
Residential buildings:For newly constructed or remodeled residential build-ings Title 24 requires the use of manual-on occupancy sensors, fl uorescent lights, or dimmers in most rooms of the home such as the bathroom, garage, utility room, hallway, bedroom, and living room. HBA offers a vast array of wall switch occupancy sensors to meet this requirement. These models turn the lights on manually when someone pushes the button, and they automati-cally turn the lights off when the room is unoccupied.

KEY FEATURES
• Standard wall switch ON/OFF operation
• Toggle or Decorator style
• Mechanically switches to OFF position when power
is interrupted for 5 seconds
• Locator light illuminates switch when lights are off
• 2 Versions
- 0.2A min Load, 5A max
- 1.0A min Load, 20A max
• UL and cUL listed
OVERVIEW
The LX Sentry Switch™ allows individual override control
of local line-voltage circuits when used with the scheduling
features of the LX Networked Lighting Control Panel. When
the panel relay is ON and the circuit is powered, the switch
functions normally and can manually turn lights on and off.
However, when the panel is scheduled to turn the lighting
off, a programmed 5-second OFF signal will cause the
switch to mechanically go to the OFF position. After this
time, power returns to the circuit, and the switch functions
normally. This unique product allows the panel to sweep the
lights OFF in multiple areas while maintaining the normal
operation of the switch. When used with the LX Lighting
Control Panel, the Sentry Switch provides a very economical
means of controlling multiple areas with a single dedicated
relay on the LX panel.

Industry-Leading TechnologyHubbell Building Automation (HBA) sets the standards for energy-saving lighting control technology. Our line of passive infrared (PIR), ultrasonic (US), and dual technol-ogy occupancy sensors use our patented IntelliDAPT® technology, designed specifi cally to save you energy and money.
IntelliDAPT TechnologyTraditional occupancy sensors need manual adjustment throughout the year when seasons, airfl ow, furniture layout, or occupancy patterns change. If sensors are not constantly monitored and adjusted, energy savings will not reach their potential.
The key to maximizing energy savings for every building is HBA’s patented IntelliDAPT technology for occupancy sensors. The digital microprocessor makes all the sensor adjustment decisions automatically. Throughout the product’s lifespan, smart software analyzes the con-trolled area and makes digital adjustments to sensitivity and timer settings. Occupancy sensors with IntelliDAPT provide maintenance-free “Install and Forget” operation.

Passive Infrared TechnologyFor major motion detection, passive infrared (PIR) sensors provide the best solution. These sensors use a specially designed lens to divide the space of an area into zones. When a person moves between zones, the sensor promptly turns on the lights. PIR sensors are perfect for small enclosed areas with frequent occupant movement.
Ultrasonic TechnologyFor superior detection of minor-motion activity (e.g. typing), ultrasonic (US) sensors provide the best solu-tion. These sensors emit silent sound waves into an area. Movement in the area causes frequency shifts between the emitted and refl ected waves. This is interpreted as occupancy. US sensors do not require a clear line of sight and are ideal for offi ces with cubicles and restrooms with stalls.
Dual TechnologyFor maximum reliability, dual technology sensors com-bine PIR and US technologies. Both technologies must detect occupancy to activate lighting, but only one tech-nology must detect occupancy for lighting to remain active. Dual technology sensors are the best solution for most applications.

Occupancy Sensors Technology Guide
hhuubbbbeelll-l-aaututoommaattiioonn..comcom

Passive Infrared (PIR)Passive Infrared (PIR) technology senses occupancy by detecting the difference between heat emitted from the human body and the background space. PIR sen-sors require an unobstructed line-of-sight for detection. These sensors utilize a segmented lens, which divides the coverage area into zones. Movement between these zones is interpreted as occupancy. PIR sensors are good at detecting major motion (e.g. walking) and work best in small, enclosed spaces with high levels of occupant movement.
Ultrasonic (US)Ultrasonic (US) technology senses occupancy by bounc-ing ultrasonic sound waves (32kHz- 45kHz) off objects in a space and detecting a frequency shift between the emitted and refl ected sound waves. Movement by a person or object within the space causes a shift in frequency, which is interpreted as occupancy. US oc-cupancy sensors are good at detecting minor motion (e.g. typing,) and do not require an unobstructed line-of-sight, thus making them suitable for applications such as an offi ce with cubicles or a restroom with stalls.
Dual Technology (DT)Dual technology (DT) occupancy sensors use both pas-sive infrared and ultrasonic technologies for maximum reliability. These sensors also minimize the risk of false triggering (lights coming on when the space is unoc-cupied). Both US and PIR technologies must detect occupancy to turn lighting on, while continued detec-tion by only one technology will keep lighting on. Dual technology sensors are the best performing sensor for most applications.

IntelliDAPT™
thirtythirty--threethree
In today’s business environment it is imperative to reduce operating expenses wherever possible. Lighting is used in every area of your facility. The potential exists to save wasted energy dollars from open offi ces to the manufacturing fl oor. A great deal of the time is spent lighting areas that are vacant. The simple solution is to turn off the lights when no one is present. The problem is that this is seldom done. With the installation of oc-cupancy sensors with IntelliDAPT, you can control those areas easily with no impact on productivity. These simple solutions will signifi cantly reduce the dollars spent on energy while having a positive impact on your bottom line.
If you think about how an occupancy sensor actually controls a space and what determines how it is adjusted, it becomes obvious that any change in that environment affects the sensor’s ability to provide maximum savings. With manual adjustment to the sensor, you can get close to the optimum mix of time and sensitivity and reach maximum savings. However, when the seasons change, airfl ow is modifi ed, and furniture layout or occupancy patterns change, so should the settings on your oc-cupancy sensor. Non-adaptive occupancy sensors will require adjustment throughout the year to achieve your energy savings potential. The greater the change in the room environment, the less effi cient the sensor becomes. If sensors are not adjusted when these changes occur, your energy savings potential will not be reached.
Because manual sensors require periodic adjustment to remain effi cient over their lifetime, the next logical step would be to create a sensor that adjusts automati-cally. A digital self-adjusting sensor not only saves more energy, but it also greatly improves customer satisfaction by having the sensor adjust to changes in occupancy patterns. One optimum setting is not possible. Hubbell Building Automation (HBA) sensors can respond to changes in occupancy patterns by automatically adjust-ing the sensitivity and timer, therefore improving cus-tomer satisfaction and maximizing savings.
This patented microprocessor technology makes all the decisions for setting adjustments. Smart software con-stantly monitors the controlled area and automatically adjusts the sensitivity and timer based on environmental history. This happens all day, everyday, for the life of the product.
Digital self-adjusting sensors provide advanced solutions to complicated situations. So why is it that we are not seeing adaptive devices from all manufacturers of occupancy sensors? The answer is that digital self-adjust-ing technology is fundamentally different from typical analog sensors. Developing these products requires a great deal of research and development.
Our products are industry-recognized for ease of installa-tion and contractor friendly “Install and Forget” features which eliminate sensor setup and return service calls. With a 5-year limited warranty we guarantee your invest-ment and ensure your energy savings objectives.

See the LightMaximize energy savings and increase productivity by harvesting the most abundant energy source around: daylight. With Hubbell Building Automation’s (HBA) daylighting controls, you can take advantage of natu-ral light as either a primary or a contributing source to reduce dependency on artifi cial lighting. By reducing this dependency in commercial, educational, and retail spaces, you can increase energy savings by 75%.
Consider the OptionsHBA provides solutions for both dimming control and switching control. Dimming systems continuously adjust light output. They signal dimming-ballasts to provide the highest level of fl exibility and energy savings. Dim-ming systems are perfect for classrooms, offi ces, and retail stores.
Switching systems turn lights on and off depending on the suffi ciency of natural light available. Switching sys-tems also have a lower initial cost and are usually rec-ommended for areas with non-stationary tasks, such as warehouses, storage areas, atriums, lobbies, and parking facilities.

OVERVIEW
Using a unique Open Loop control algorithm, the Luxstat
Dimming Control Module by Servodan provides continuous
dimming daylight harvesting control to an area. The lights
dim when there is enough daylight, and they brighten when
there is not enough daylight. Instead of measuring the light
already inside an area, this module measures the amount of
daylight entering an area. During installation, lighting levels
(without artifi cial lighting) are measured at task height for
each of the 3 zones. The controller adjusts each of the zones
independently to maintain the desired lighting levels within
each space while taking advantage of available natural
daylight. The Luxstat Dimming Control Module is part of a
daylight harvesting system that includes the Luxstat Light
Sensor and the Luxstat Power Pack. This control module can
work with occupancy sensors and manual wall switches to
provide a diverse lighting solution for classrooms and meet-

KEY FEATURES
• Controls 0–10V dimming ballasts
• Light-sensitivity range of 0–500 foot-candles
• Selectable 3- or 8-second dimming rate
• Multiple calibration options
• Low-profi le design
• 2-year warranty
OVERVIEW
Hubbell Building Automation’s DLC7 is the ideal system for
providing continuous dimming control for 0–10V dimming
ballasts based on natural daylight. This control maintains
constant, undisturbed, fl uorescent light levels during peak
use times. Through continuous monitoring of ambient light
levels, the DLC7 dims the associated lighting fi xtures to a
user’s predefi ned foot-candle setting. The DLC7 dimming
photocell provides precise control of the actual amount
of lighting on the work surface (e.g. desktop, fl oor) within
its fi eld of view. Measured light levels are converted into a
linear, proportional, analog voltage that controls the ballast-
dimming range. This achieves maximum energy savings by
effi ciently blending natural and artifi cial light to maintain a
comfortable visual environment. The sensor head adjust-
ment sets the maximum output of the controlled ballast. The
sensor also provides a short and long delay. The short delay
provides faster sensor response. The long delay slows the
sensor response and maintains a more stable signal to the
ballast, such as in situations with passing clouds.

Energy-Saving Technology Effective energy management is a key concern for today’s streamlined businesses. Precise management of high intensity discharge (HID) and high output fl uores-cents enables companies to save energy. Leading the industry in technology and proven quality, Hubbell Build-ing Automation (HBA) offers superior options for lighting control: the LightBAT™ G2 Dual-Level HID Controller and the Fluorescent High Bay Occupancy Sensor.
Tackle the HID ChallengeHID lighting is a major source of energy waste and the most diffi cult lighting to control. Of the 40 million HID fi xtures in the U.S., less than 3% are controlled. Ware-houses, manufacturing centers, distribution centers, and gymnasiums typically use HID lighting sources. However, these lighting sources cannot be switched on and off like fl uorescent and incandescent lights.

The LightBAT G2 Dual Level HID Controller lowers HID lighting from 100% to 50% power with minimal lamp-life degradation. This allows 50% of the energy to be saved during periods of vacancy. The result is minimal lighting changes with maximum cost savings.
Conquer High Output FluorescentsWith the increased use of high output fl uorescent fi xtures, HBA’s Fluorescent High Bay Occupancy sensor increases savings by turning off lamps during vacancy. Designed to provide versatile ON/OFF lighting control, these passive infrared (PIR) sensors feature HBA’s unique Smart Cycling™ technology, which ensures that all lamps receive the same number of switching cycles.
