350 parts per million is what many scientists, climate experts, and progressive national governments are now saying is the safe upper limit for C02 in our atmosphere.

Accelerating arctic warming and other early climate impacts have lead scientists to conclude that we are already above the safe zone at our current 392 parts per million.

The planet currently has 392 parts per million CO2 - and this number is rising about 2 parts per million every year.

Unless we are able to rapidly return to below 350 parts per million this century, we risk reaching tipping points and irreversible impacts such as melting of the Greenland ice sheet and major methane releases from increased permafrost melt.

Researchers at two major laboratories found an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants in umbilical cord blood from 10 babies born in August and September of 2004 in U.S. hospitals.

as new alarm bells link chemicals and cancer, medicalmainstream advocates organicCarcinogens and toxins from food, water and the air expose Americans to “grievous harm” due to outdated lawsand weak regulation, the President’s Cancer Panel said in a 240-page report released May 6.

“The true burden of environmentally induced cancer has been grossly underestimated. With nearly 800,000chemicals on the market in the United States, many of which are used by millions of Americans in their dailylives and are understudied and largely unregulated, exposure to potential environmental carcinogens iswidespread,” said panel members Dr. LaSalle Leffal, Jr., an oncologist and professor of surgery at HowardUniversity, and Dr. Margaret L. Kripke, an immunologist at the MD. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, in aletter to President Barack Obama.

The advisory panel placed particular emphasis on the acute risks of environmental exposure to children. “To adisturbing extent, babies are born ‘pre-polluted,’” the panel said.

The panel, quoted in the New York Times as the "Mount Everest of the medical mainstream", recommended thatconsumers choose “food grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers and washing conventionally grownproduce to remove residues. Similarly, exposure to antibiotics, growth hormones and toxic run-off fromlivestock feedlots can be minimized by eating free-range meat raised without these medications.”

The Organic Trade Association praised the report.

“OTA is gratified to see a prestigious scientific panel recognize what the organic farmers and the organiccommunity have realized about environmental health and organic agriculture for decades, and we applaud themfor taking on this critical issue,” saidOTA Executive Director Christine Bushway in a statement.“Organic production and processing is the only system that uses certification and inspection to verify that thesechemicals are not used on the farm all the way to our dinner tables.”

Among the panel’s recommendations:

Remove shoes before entering the home to avoid tracing in toxic chemicals such as pesticides

Filter tap water

Microwave food in ceramic or glass instead of plastic containers

Reduce radiation from X-rays

Check radon levels in homes

Use stainless steel, glass or BPA-free plastic water bottles

The report could add weight to California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s proposal to ban BPA from foodand beverage containers.

The panel singled out BPA as one substance that remains unregulated “despite the growing link between BPAand several diseases, including various cancers.” the panel also said the public should be made aware of thedangers of manufacturing by-products such as formaldehyde and benzene from car exhaust.

The entire U.S. population is exposed on a daily basis to numerous agricultural chemicals.

Many of these chemicals are known or suspected of having either carcinogenic or endocrine-disrupting properties.

Exposure to pesticide, insecticide, herbicide and fungicide chemicals have been linked to brain/central nervous system, breast, colon, lung ovarian, pancreatic, kidney, testicular and stomach cancers, as well as Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, multiple myeloma and soft tissue sarcoma.

Exposure to pesticides can be decreased by choosing foods grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

Exposure to antibiotics, growth hormones, and toxic run-off from livestock feed lots can be minimized by eating free-range meat raised without these medications.
