Pierce Stone

Beneath this monument is entombed the remains of Capt. Joseph Pierce, Mariner. Born in Boston Mass, July 20, 1873. He

circumnavigated the globe at an early age entered the Oregon River and Pugets

Sound. In the armed ship Juno of Bristol R.I. was engaged in the naval service of

his country during the War of 1812. Emigrated to the West in 1818. And for

many years successfully occupied in the navigation of the western rivers by steam

power. His eventful life terminated in Cincinnati Feb 27, 1863.

In full belief of future happiness

and the existence of a just God

and in the merits and sufficiency

of Jesus Christ.
