The city of Valencia was founded by the Roman general Decimus Junius Brutus in 138 BC, on a river island of the River Turia. Valencia's name means "strength" and "good omen".

The Falles is a traditional celebration held in commemoration of Saint Joseph. In this celebration they burn a fallas. This are a statues.

La Tomatina is a food fight festival held on the last Wednesday of August each year in the town of Bunol near to Valencia in Spain.

VALENCIA

Valencia, the land of flowers and faults, is one of the cities largest and most important of Spain, and one of the most vibrant. Located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, one is the beaches in the heart of the city. Valencia enjoys a mild and pleasant climate throughout the year, and hot and humid during the summer. Very tourist land, especially during the summer, time in which many tourists visit.

Valencia has a charming tourist since it has an impressive old town, many monuments (such as the Gothic Cathedral), located in the center of the city. It is known for Las Fallas, impressive festivals of light and fire. It has a dazzling nightlife. Also known for its cuisine highlighting the paella.

In recent years also Valencia has been well-known internationally. Have contributed to this important cultural event; as the construction of the city of Arts and Sciences and sports; as having been the seat of the America's Cup, the competition's most important sailing the world, or the Grand Prize of Formula I which takes place in a spectacular urban circuit that runs through the port area.

The main character in the majority of dishes is rice in varied forms of preparation, highlighting the paella like dish known internationally. Other traditional dishes are baked rice, rice to band (with fish), rice (with Squid in its own ink), a soupy rice with beans and turnips or the fideua (which replaces the rice for noodles). Orange is certainly the Valencian fruit par excellence. Its excellent quality and its different varieties makes this fruit is an exquisite delicacy.

One of the Christmas sweets most popular and typical of the region is the Turron.

The horchata is a refreshing drink that is made with chufa, a tuber that is only grown in soils of special characteristics, so it is exclusive of Valencia and has designation of origin. Summer drink, which was taken along with fartons (elongated cakes).
