The City
The city itself is a major attraction with its friendly street cafes, ancient quarters
and miradouros situated on top of the hills. The city is constructed on seven hills.
You should come prepared with a sturdy and comfortable pair of walking shoes, as
some of the streets are so steep that even cars cannot access them! Do not let that
scare you, as there are funiculars operating in such areas. The city is the perfect
blend between contemporary and classical styles and you will find that intriguing
and attractive.
Monuments
One of the many things to do in Lisbon is visiting its grand monuments. The most
popular are Belem Tower and the Jeronimos Monastery. The former is an iconic
landmark that people should not miss, while the latter should be on your must-see
list for its sheer size and grandeur.
Architecture
Perhaps the most attractive feature of Lisbon is its unique architecture. You will
find the ancient facades and Gothic and Renaissance architecture inspiring and
fascinating. Be sure to visit the beautiful and gorgeous Manueline in the Belem
District which was constructed in the 16th century and the Pombalie, which was
built in the 18th century. Of course, the art nouveau shops and cafes can leave you
spellbound. You will enjoy taking in the cobblestone streets and pavements which
traverse the city. Sitting in one of the maritime-themed café can be a unique
experience.
