DESCRIPTION

The Carlton Hotel originally opened as Hotel Seville in early 20th century New York City as a tribute to the ornate elegance of old New York. Opening in 1904, just months before the opening of the New York City subway, Hotel Seville was one of several hotels in the early part of the century to transform the neighborhood’s low-scale blocks into a chic, high-rise avenue. Now, over one hundred years later, the hotel completed a multi-million dollar transformation by world-renowned architect David Rockwell, infusing the hotel with an ultra-modern spirit while preserving the design-forward elements of the hotel’s historical aesthetic. This historic, luxury New York City hotel is located in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park district, at 88 Madison Avenue. Just steps from Madison Square Park, Herald Square and the Empire State Building, the Carlton Hotel is conveniently located near the Flatiron, Murray Hill and Gramercy neighborhoods and is also within walking distance of Penn Station, Madison Square Garden and Grand Central Station. David Rockwell designed the 317 guest rooms featuring traditional design elements with a modern twist, with custom furnishings, fabrics, wall coverings, carpets and finishes juxtaposing light beige and blue accents with distressed mirrored furnishings, polished nickel, tall leather headboards and dark walnut trimmings. Among the largest for a luxury boutique Manhattan hotel, the oversized guest rooms exude guest comforts with pillow top mattresses, luxurious linens and down feather comforters, executive work desks with built in Internet data ports, complimentary high speed and wireless Internet access, 42" flat screen LCD Televisions, and marble bathrooms with lighted make-up mirrors and Molton Brown luxury bath amenities. The Carlton Hotel’s lobby, with forty-foot ceilings, a two story waterfall and crystal chandeliers, is a soaring and enchanting space that provides the backdrop for our restaurant, Millesime. Millesime is derived from the French word for vintage, which is apropos given the many landmark details inherent to the space, including the exquisite 1904 Tiffany-style glass dome skylight and extraordinary mosaic floor. Millesime, accessible from the Carlton Hotel’s lobby, exists on two floors, joined by one inner stair. On the first level, you will discover Salon Millesime and the lobby bar, which welcomes you into a lively lounge area that serves as a local coffee bar throughout the morning, and later, transforms itself into a wine bar serving small plates of food throughout the evening. No reservations are necessary. On the second level, you will discover a bustling seafood brasserie with red banquets, a marble raw bar and an open kitchen that allows you to watch the culinary team at work. Adjacent to the brasserie and across a 30-foot glass bridge, you will find Bar Millesime, a reservations-only cocktail bar. With over 6,000 square feet of meeting space, the Carlton Hotel offers seven private meeting rooms with windows and high tech audio and visual systems in all rooms, as well as four gorgeous event spaces including the original grand ballroom of the Hotel Seville, which has a stunning, Tiffany-style glass dome skylight.
