Standard Walk > USD $25* per person includes pick-up and a “Kikomando” lunch (typical slum food). Duration approx 3 hours.

Pick-up point is from our kind friends at . either from their restaurant at Bombo Road, Wandegeya,**or from the one at the corner of Kira Road and Acacia Avenue,

Kamwokya.**

Research Walk = USD $35* per person, “Kikomando” lunch is included, pick-up is not, but can be arranged at additional cost. To book please inform us of your area of research and the day

you wish to visit when booking. Duration approx 4.5 hours.

Throughout your visit with us there will be plenty of opportunities for photographs. When we pass through

certain sensitive areas however, we request that the dignityof inhabitants is protected. So there will be a short briefing

before we set off to outline what is appropriate.

The standard walk takes place every Thursday and prior booking is required and is subject to available spaces. For

parties of 5 or more there is the possibility of alternate days, subject to arrangement. The research walk can be booked

for any day.

AFFCAD is a charity located right in the heartof Bwaise, Kampala’s poorest slum.

We draw attention to the plight of many who are living on or below the poverty line in Kampala’s slums. The tour also

highlights our work as an organisation, and our endeavours to alleviate suffering and improve the education and health of

our many local beneficiaries.

Our walk gives visitors an extraordinary insight into another world, AFFCAD runs the slum awareness walk to do just that:

raise awareness.

You will visit a community primary school that supports orphans and vulnerable children and you will also see the

available water sources used by those living in the area. We will show you around our own youth employment centre, as

well as visiting a local market and a retail fashion shop,selling locally produced items.

Whilst on the walk you will learn about some of the day-to-day challenges of life here, like flooding, disease,

poverty and the need for some to turn to the sex trade to survive. For those that wish to, there will also be an

opportunity to purchase foodstuffs locally, to offer to the families that we visit along the way. This supports the local

community generally.

The warmest of welcomes awaits you during this unforgettable – and for many, life-changing – experience.

We will pass by open sewers, streams and the swamp that the slum is generally situated upon.

So please sport appropriate footwear!

Knowing first-hand the harsh realities that come from growing up in a slum, we are of course sensitive to them. At

the same time however, we recognise the enormous potential for positive social change that can come about by making

new friends with those that pass through or spend time in Kampala, visitors who may otherwise never venture into

this kind of area.
