WELCOME TO 2016 GLOBAL CM RETREAT

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Retreat Committee, TiE Global Board of Trustees, and TiE Global staff, welcome to our 18th annual TiE Global Charter Member Retreat. We will collectively make memories in the beautiful and historic Quebec, the only walled city in North America. Quebec is a province with French influences and has a charming European feel to it. The attractions that await you are the fun-filled activities and theme dinners – all in a breathtaking “riverside” setting in the most photographed hotel in the world. More importantly, old friends from across the globe get a chance to rekindle friendships, and many new friendships are waiting to be made.

Three spectacular evening events await you, starting with a reception and dinner at the Museum of Civilization, and the screening of an award winning film. The next night is our own exclusive party where we have the Quebec Parliament all to ourselves. The final night is our Awards gala at the magnificent Fairmont Hotel ballroom and Canada’s leading DJ Poojan to entertain you through the night.

For both adults and children we have organized a range of fun filled activities and food options. So leave your worries behind; sample a great fusion of Indian and French cuisine with great wines, charge up your cameras and dress up for the final gala banquet. Most importantly get set for a lot of fun – and a little business with lots of networking.

Finally, the usual tourist advice: please do keep your passports and valuables in the safe custody of your rooms. We would also like you to carry back home memories of Quebec, enjoy the local produce – maple syrup and ice wine. Please feel free to contact either of us if you need anything at all while you are here.

WHAT TO WEAR IN QUEBEC CITY IN SUMMER Quebec City summers run from early June through mid September when temperatures can vary tremendously. Daytime temperatures can reach into the 90's with high humidity, especially in July and August. Because there is always a possibility of summer showers, visitors should be prepared with an umbrella. Comfortable walking sandals and a light jacket for the evenings are recommended. Those with mobility problems may have difficulty walking the steep, cobblestone streets. Consider hiring a caleche (a horse drawn carriage) or take taxis. Dress in Quebec City is best described as fashionable, but understated. The business casual dress code is more acceptable here than in Montreal. Sun dresses, skirts, dress shorts and light weight pants are more comfortable than jeans for Quebec City summers. Baseball hats and track pants are a not such a sin here as in Montreal, possibly due to a higher density of tourists, especially in summer. BASIC FRENCH PHRASES FOR TRAVELLERS

“GROWING UP SMITH” – ANJUL NIGAM

Anjul Nigam, actor, producer and writer will be entertaining us with his movie “Growing up Smith”. This is a private screening of the movie, which will be releasing in theaters, only in 2017. Anjul is a graduate of Tisch School of Arts, New York University; and has acted in several motion pictures and landmark TV series.

Recently, he acted along with Asley Judd in the “Trafficked”. He was a supporting lead in “Bad Words” directed by Jason Bateman. He had a leading role in “The First $20 Million is always the Hardest”. In TV series role, he has been a recurring cast member of HBO’s “True Detective” opposite Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch. He played the memorable “Dr. Raj” for three seasons on “Grey’s Anatomy.” In theater, Anjul starred

in "The Merchant of Venice" directed by Peter Sellars at the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC)in London.

GROWING UP SMITH

Growing Up Smith is directed by Frank Lotito, has been praised for its ability to transcend racial and class barriers in small town America. Anjul Nigam delivers a comical standout performance as head honcho Bhaaskar Bhatnagar. His involvement in writing and producing the heart-warming film as told through the eyes of a young and optimistic immigrant has captivated audiences.

The movie has received a host of awards such as the Audience Award Best Narrative Feature at the Woodstock Film Festival and Naples International Film Festival, and the Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature at CAAMFest.

Dipak Roy Dr. Dipak Roy is the founder-chairman of D-TA Systems Inc, a defense electronics company with offices in Ottawa, Denver, Paris & Bangalore. His previous company was acquired by GE in 2004. Dr. Roy has been involved in many charitable activities, including setting up of Advanced Sensor processing Lab at Carleton University and refurbishment of palliative care unit at Elizabeth Bruyere Hospital, both in Ottawa. Dr. Roy was appointed to the board of SDTC (a billion dollar clean-tech funding organization) by Govt of Canada. Dr. Roy has been received many awards for his accomplishments and community services, including Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee award, ANSI award for creating a Technical standard and Immigrant Entrepreneur award by City of Ottawa.

Chand Akkineni Chand is a serial entrepreneur with over 30 years global experience in IT related services. He has been a member of TIE Global Board of Trustees. He is the founder of the TIE forum on LinkedIN with over 15,000 members. Chand is the founder and CEO of ITJobCafe, Inc., an IT Job Portal for the US market. He is also CEO of Softpros Inc., an IT solutions company; SoftPro Global,an offshore software services company. SoftPro Global offers Off-shore software development in Business Process Management ( BPM), Open Source Software development and elearning.

Harish Mamtani Founder and CEO of SEED (Standard of Excellence in Education and Development) Education. SEED was launched in 2013 to provide capital and management support to low cost K-10 schools in India with focus to improve the standard of education. Idea for SEED came when Harish spent a year as interim CEO of Indian School Finance Company, a lending institution to low cost schools to expand and improve infrastructure. Before launching SEED, Harish served as an independent adviser to Gray Ghost Ventures, a social venture fund. More than 18 years of experience in finance, investing, and wealth management managing over $1.5 billion.

Rajan Palaniswamy Palaniswamy (Raj) Rajan is currently the founder and Managing Partner of CTW Venture Partners, an early stage venture capital fund which invests in and assists seed/early-stage entrepreneurs across all industries primarily in Atlanta and the South Eastern United States who are engaged in disruptive innovations and technologies. CTW focuses solely on companies, which are started by expert technical founders with strong domain expertise. CTW partners with technical entrepreneurs and companies in markets with large opportunities and no identifiable competitors. CTW typically supplies the first capital, often at the concept phase. JP James James is the Founding Partner of Libreum International. Over the past two decades, James has helped acquire, restructure, and scale stagnant ventures in their management strategy, business process automation, back office automation, and capital solutions. He has invested and advised fast growth ventures since 2004. He is also a Lecturer at Georgia Tech's College of Management & School of Industrial Engineering, and teaches Quantitative Computational Finance, and Entrepreneurship.

BOSTON Anil Agarwal Anil Agrawal is the CEO/Founder of the CIMCON Group and has more than thirty years of experience in corporate management, sales and marketing, product development and entrepreneurial leadership. Currently he is heading CIMCON Lighting, Inc., a leading provider of cutting edge industrial automation and control solutions, has leveraged the Internet of Things (IoT) to become the leader in intelligent lighting control systems. Anil Agrawal is a Charter Member of Tie Boston and likes to help budding entrepreneurs in their entrepreneurial journey. He is joined by his wife Shweta Agrawal and two lovely daughters Ishita Agrawal (22) and Ashi Agrawal(17).

Sanjeev Jain Sanjeev is CEO & Founder of Idea First Technologies Inc (IFT) - an Internet media publishing company. IFT websites receives over 600 million page view & attracts around 30million unique users a year. Sanjeev is a board member at TiE Boston. He holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management.

Mir Arif Mir is the founder & Managing Director of Madison Park Group and the founder & General Partner of Blue Cloud Ventures. Madison Park Group is an investment banking firm focused on advising technology companies on M&A transactions and fundraisings. Mir founded Madison Park Group in 2004 and has been instrumental in driving the strategic growth and direction of the firm. Mir has executed over 110 fundraising and M&A transactions for high growth companies in a range of sectors including enterprise software, eCommerce, online services and IT/BPO services. Prior to Madison Park Group, he was a technology investment banker at Bear Stearns and an M&A investment banker at Peregrine Capital. In 2012, Mir founded Blue Cloud Ventures, a venture capital fund focused on investing in late stage enterprise software, SaaS and tech-enabled services companies. Mir holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a M.S. in Operations Research from Columbia University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and an active Charter Member of TiE Boston and TiE Boston Angels.

Ramesh Kapur Mr. Kapur is also director and owner of a casting and machining company in Canton, Ohio. Ohio Cast Products, Inc. does large runs of malleable and ductile castings and machining parts for the automotive industry. Mr. Kapur has been a member of the Medford, Massachusetts Rotary Club for 16 years and was president during the 2001-2002 term. Ramesh Kapur was on the DNC site selection committee in 1992 when New York was chosen as the Democratic convention site that year. His interest in small business development, privatization of the energy sector in India and Indo-US trade relations cuminated in getting an invitation from Energy Secretary Hazel O Leary and Senator John Kerry to visit India as a special trade delegate. He was also specially invited by Hillary Clinton to accompany her to pay homage to Mother Teresa.

Vik Mehrotra Vik is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Venus Capital Management, Inc, Boston, MA, USA. Vik has been actively investing in Asia since 1989 and founded Venus in 1994 for investing in India. Venus focusses on low risk, alpha generating strategies from India. Arun works as Management Advisor - APAC with Comptel after serving as MD (Comptel India) and has over 30 years of experience in IT and telecom. Arun worked with Companies including Lucent, IBM and DEC (India). Arun holds B.E(Hons) from BITS - Pilani, India and also attended an executive course at Harvard Business School (Boston). Over the years, Arun invested as angel investor and mentored few start-ups. Arun is currently looking for some additional startups to invest and support.

Lalit Jain Lalit is a co-founder of CresTech Software Systems & Smart Software Testing Solutions. Both of his companies focus on Software QA & Testing. CresTech deals in servicing customers for the QA needs whereas Smart Software is a product company with leading platforms like Opkey & pCloudy to test any kind of web or mobile application automatically. His companies hold more than 5 technology patents. Prior to founding these companies he has worked with Adobe Systems. He is an environment enthusiast and loves playing lawn tennis.

Satish Jha Satish is an entrepreneur, investor and corporate executive with CXO roles across media, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, PBM and management consulting including Roche, Caremark and Adventist Healthcare. Starting out as a co-founder of a national newspaper in India that set a circulation record of 100,000 copies in its first 6 months, he has since seeded, mentored, advised or chaired over 30 startups, some of which were acquired at significant valuation. He established One Laptop per Child, in India and has chaired or led Ecco Electronics, Solvytech, Emotion Mining, James Martin & Co., and he co-founded Ashcroft Sullivan Jha. He is the Managing Director and CEO of Domestic Workforce Pvt Ltd, a private sector enterprise specializing in livelihood skills development to empower underprivileged women and youth. He was the immediate Past President of TiE Hyderabad. He is a Member on the board of Hyderabad Angels, Identis Solutions, Rockwell International School and MyLabYogi. He has been a visiting faculty at premier institutions like IIT Hyderabad and IMT Hyderabad. He is an ardent activist working for the cause of spreading awareness about various challenges facing Indian society today.

Suresh Challa Suresh is the Director of SSPDL Ltd., a real estate development company with activities in Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Kerala. He was also promoter director of Fortune Biotech, a biopesticide company catering to organic farmers in US and Europe. Recently, he started an international K-12 school called Vista School in association with UK's Pearson Education. He is the current President of TiE Hyderabad chapter, and is also an angel investor and board member at Hyderabad Angels.

In the 80s, Suresh co-founded Asian Coffee Limited, the first company in India to manufacture and export instant coffee to leading multinationals like Nestle, USA, Tetley UK and put India on the instant coffee map of the world. In 1992 Asian Coffee got acquired by Tata Tea, currently Tata Coffee. Suresh has also co-founded a software product company in Palo Alto, California. After merging with Visigenic Software, it listed on on Nasdaq in 1996 with a market cap of $100 Million. Billed as one of the first Internet companies to go public on Nasdaq, Visigenic later got acquired by Borland Inc. LAHORE/ ISLAMABAD Ayesha Hamid Ayesha is the Director of the American School of International Academics in Lahore, Pakistan. She is the only Pakistani woman entrepreneur to have achieved the highest certification from the department of education as a US certified principal and Superintendent of Schools. As an educationist and social worker, she has been working in 26 different forums and NGO’S to help the youth of Pakistan, to develop their careers.
