NEW NAME FOR PROTEA HOTEL MAFIKENG – AND A NEW CONFERENCE VENUE September 2014: The name of Protea Hotel Mafikeng, located in the North West Province has been changed to Protea Hotel Mahikeng. Protea Hospitality Group Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue, Danny Bryer, said the renaming had come about because the town of Mafikeng has changed its name to Mahikeng. By changing its name, the Protea Hotel Mahikeng is aligning itself with the town’s current and most accurately authentic name. Although Mahikeng was renamed four years ago, locals still mostly refer to the town as Mafikeng. Protea Hotel Mahikeng has also added a new conference room that is able to seat 50 people in cinema style. The venue is infused with natural light, but block-out curtains can be drawn when delegates require a darker space for viewing projections. The venue is equipped with a podium, pull-down white screen and a mounted projected, and additional AV equipment, like a PA system or DVD players, can be provided on request. The four-star hotel is situated in a region rich in history, culture and wildlife, with several game reserves and scenic attractions close by, including golfing and a casino. Protea Hotel Mahikeng’s GDS codes will remain the same, namely: Sabre: 102137 Galileo: 86567 Amadeus: MBDMAF Worldspan: NMAFI
