• Sultan Shamsuddeen III built the palace for his only son (Prince Hassan Izzuddin)
History of Mulee Aage
• 300 years ago was an ordinary thatched house –“Muleege”
• Sultan Shamsuddeen III inherited the house in 1903
• The Sultan transformed the house into a palace for his son Hassan Izzuddin in 1914
• Then it was called “Henveyru Ganduvaru”
• After the sultan and his son were banished in May 1936, the house was declared a government property.• In 1939 it was renamed as “Mulee-Aage”• Since then many government offices were operated in the Palace.

• From 1953 onward the Palace is been used as a Presidential Palace.• So in 1986, the house was renamed as “Mulee-Aage -The Presidential Palace”• It was the first place to hoist the National Flag

• First edifice designed by a foreign architect• Five years took to complete the Palace. • It is a Sri Lankan design.
• All the materials needed to construct the Palace were imported from India and Lanka
• The outer Gate, • Roofs, • Ceiling, • Stairs and •Doors are very unique.
• In 1986 the palace was upgraded to hold official functions and to accommodate visiting Heads of States and other foreign dignitaries.
• No change was brought to the main structure.
• Now it is one of the most well-known tourist sight of Maldives.
• After a long gap of 15 years again it’s the residence of the president now.
