Marco Polo was famous traveler.
Who was Marco Polo?
● Marco Polo was an Italian sailor, explorer and merchant.
● He was born on 15th September of 1254.
Journey To China
● He travelled to China through the Silk’s route and he introduced the powder into Europe.
● Before he came back to Venice, he stayed in Huelva during 17 years.

● When he came back to Venice he was 41 years old.
● He commanded a gallery and one day a war against the Genoese people was emerged.
Who was Marco Polo?
● They were defeated and Marco Polo was imprisoned.
● Marco Polo told to Rustichello de Pisa about his fabulous trip to Cathay (Japan) and the return through Malacca, Ceylon, India and Persia.

● Rustichello wrote a book about Marco Polo’s Trips called Milione.

● The trade in Europe was based on the Silk’s Route.
● Here the luxury products were transported.
● Venice was a very important and a powerful city.
● It ruled the coast and the interior of Dalmacia.

● Although the Byzantine Empire fell in Turk power and followed it belonged to the Latin Empire, Venice continued its powerful control over islands and lands.
● It unified all the Mongol tribes and this caused the conquest of China, Asia, Russia, Irak, Siria and Anatolia.
● When he dead,he was replaced by his son Ogodei.

● The Mongol Empire was goberned by Genghis Khan in 1206.

First Voyage
● His father and uncle went to Asia in 1255 and they reached India in 1266.
● They returned with a letter of Ogodei for the Pope.
● Ogodei asked for educated people that teach in his Empire, to inform the Mongols on their way of life.
Second Voyage
● His father and uncle departed on a second trip, with the Pope’s answer to Kulai Khan in 1271, but this time Marco Polo was there. He soon won the favor of Kiblai Khan, making his adviser. After, Marco Polo became the envoy of the Khan, who gave him various destinations throughout the years. In his seventeen years in the service to Khan, he came to know the vast regions of China and the many achievements of Chinese civilization. When an embassy from the king of Persia to Kublai Khan requested a princess for the king, Marco Polo went with her, deciding to return to Venice.
What did Marco Polo do ?
● He wrote a book and due it, his trip was the first widely known and the best documented so far.
● Marco Polo introduced in Italy some products from China like: ice cream, piñata or pasta, specially spaghetti.
● The book wrote by Marco Polo inspired many explorers and travellers.
● Chirstopher Columbus himself had a copy of this book on his journey in 1492.
That is one of Marco Polo´s routes.

Marco Polo died on 8th January of 1324.
