Greater Manchester Transport Fund

Presenter
Presentation Notes
In May 2009 the 10 Greater Manchester Authorities committed to an innovatively funded £1.5 billion package for 15 public transport and road schemes.   There is a strong economic case: By 2021, the schemes would increase in employment growth in GM by 20% - an additional 21,000 jobs. increase Greater Manchester’s GVA by £1.3bn per annum   Still, more than 50% of funding locally sourced and borrowings. Funding sources include: a top slice from the Integrated Transport Block funding for Greater Manchester borrowings funded by the ITA Levy third party contributions net revenues from the operation of the Metrolink; and RFA funding from government The transport package focused funding on these schemes which deliver the greatest benefits for the economy of Greater Manchester.   Let’s focus on some of the transport schemes:

Presentation Notes
To ensure there is an integrated approach to transport across Greater Manchester, GMPTE becomes TfGM in April 2011.   It becomes the second most powerful and influential transport organisation in England after TfL because it unites previously splintered governance over transport policy in the boroughs under one body.   It takes on new responsibilities for highways and delivery of the GM wide Local Transport Plan.

Another way to bypass congestion – and get fit and healthy at the same time – is to get on your bike. Greater Manchester is, of course, home to British Cycling and our investment in new infrastructure and initiatives to encourage people to saddle up for their commute continues apace.
