The two new heavyweights this time will be Nobel Laureate Sir V.S. Naipaul and renowned American writer Paul Theroux; besides much-admired novelist Hanif Kuresihi, 2013 Man Book Prize Winner Eleanor Catton, current Man Booker Prize nominee Neel Mukherjee and internationally acclaimed German children’s author Cornelia Funke.If you are a book lover – poetry, fiction, non-fiction, reportage, scholarly – and enjoy the stimulation that comes with engaging with ideas, you might wish to combine your vacation in Rajasthan with one or more days spent at the Literature Festival.With 2.5 lakh booklovers turning up last year, it is now not only the largest literary festival in Asia-Pacific, but also the largest free literary festival in the world. The 2015 Zee Jaipur Literature Festival will follow the main theme of The Seven Deadly Sins, which means authors will discuss works related to this subject. The second strand of the celebrated Women Uninterrupted series will continue. Besides this, the literature of Southeast Asia as well as the Seven Sister States of Northeast India will be brought into focus, along with emphasis on poetry, historical fiction, alternative sexualities, memoir writing, cricket writing, politics, natural history, and also the meltdown in the Middle East. Sessions on these topics consist of readings, discussions, questions and answers.
