Notes from your Travel Consultant:The below itinerary takes in the key highlights of Southern Malawi, with some time on Lake Malawi, Liwonde NationalPark as well as obviously concentrating the trip around Mount Mulanje. Here you have an acclimatisation day,followed by 2 nights on the mountain and ending with some R&R at the foothills of the mountain before heading backto Lilongwe for your final night.

Day  1:  LilongweCapital, Lilongwe was founded in 1906 along the banks of the Lilongwe River. Lying along a plateau west

of The Great Rift Valley at an altitude of 1,067 metres, Lilongwe is a great base to start a Malawian Holiday or foraccess into South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. The city is split into the old town and new town with a numberof good restaurants, bars and activities for visitors stopping for a few days. Lilongwe has a bustling curio market,ideal for buying gifts and a number of famous landmarks including the tomb of the first Malawian President and amemorial tower in remembrance of soldiers who fought in the 1st and 2nd World Wars.

A good option for an afternoon activity is a visit to Lilongwe Nature Sanctuary or the Tobacco Auctions which can bevisited between the months of March and June.

Day  2-­3:  Southern  LakeshoreSmall lodges are dotted along the shore line interspersed with small fishing villages and wooden kayaks drying in thesun. Away from the hustle and bustle of mainland Malawi the southern lakeshore has a unique feel to it, people walk alittle slower, the sun shines a little brighter and the warm heart of Africa really shows true colours. Days can bespent sunbathing on the beach, taking snorkeling trips and feeding the fish eagles or chatting with locals as they mendtheir nets. Sunset cruises provide a wonderful opportunity to witness the magnificence of the lake before returning fora home cooked meal in the beachside restaurant.

Day  4-­5:  Liwonde  National  ParkArriving by river boat is the best way to see first hand the beauty of this magnificent park. With one of the highestpopulations of hippo in the African Continent and a river bank heavy with sun bathing crocodiles the river provides alife source for the animals. Head out into the park as the sun is rising and witness the park come to life withover 250 bird species, a healthy population of antelope and an estimated elephant count at over 1,000. After a relaxingsiesta head out for an afternoon drive and sundowner on the banks of The Shire River. End the day back at the lodgewith a delicious home cooked meal and a night spent under canvas with the sounds of the bush close by.There is an option to spend part of your siesta time visiting a nearby education project, please speak to the lodgereception for further information.

Day  6-­9:  Mulanje  MountainIsland In The Sky. Mulanje 20 peaks offer stunning views over the tea fields and wonderful

hiking opportunities. The beautiful scenery is complimented by fresh water mountain streams and cosy resting hutsfor nights spent on the plateau. There are options of easier trails for the less experienced climber and morechallenging routes for visitors seeking the ultimate challenge of climbing to the top of Sapitwa Peak at a height ofover 3000 metres. The plateau has natural rock pools for swimming, morning peak climbs and mountain huts to stayovernight.

To complete your Mulanje experience visitors can arrange a visit to the small orphan care centre at the base of themountain, organised through The Responsible Safari Company.

Day  6:  Likhubula  ***Set in the foothills of Mount Mulanje Likhubula is theideal base camp for hiking Mount Mulanje. With basicaccommodation and facilities the lodge has a rustic feelto it with people coming and going off the mountain. It isa great place to recharge after your climb or stock upbefore your ascent. There is a basic menu restaurant andbar.

Day 7-­8: CCAP Mountain Huts ***These basic mountain huts are a perfect resting stop for anight or two or Mulanje. With open fires, friendlywatchmen and cosy interiors the mountain huts aredotted around Mulanje plateau in picturesque settings.With guide and porter accommodation as well as basicdorm style rooms hikers meet here to talk through theirdays climb, exchange stories and cook over the open fire.

Day  9:  Lujeri Lodge  **Lujeri Lodge is set within the stunning Lujeri Tea Estateat the foot of Mulanje Mountain. With wonderful viewsover the tea fields and with a backdrop of MountMulanje Lujeri Lodge provides a perfect base for hikingthe mountain and walking through the working tea estate.Staffed by two people guests can make themselves athome in the lodge which is rented exclusively to onegroup. The lodge has an outside barbeque area, fullyequipped kitchen and four spacious ensuite rooms.

Lakeside ProjectsCape Maclear Projects Take a village walk and visit theorphan care, HIV/AIDS education and clean waterprogrammes as part of a visit to Chembe Village Projects.Visit HEEED environmental centre aimed at raisingawareness for the protection of Lake Malawi. Nancholi Community Visit

A half day visit to this wonderful community on theoutskirts of Blantyre. Visit the primary and secondaryschools, health care programme and meet theinspirational team behind Nancholi YouthOrganisation. A traditional lunch is provided withinthe village community.

Over 75% of project visit costs go directly to the project through asustainable giving programme run by RSC.

Zambia  HighlightsKawaza Cultural Village. Spend a day or nightwithin a Zambian village. Set up to offer tourists aninsight into rural living and Zambian culture guestssleep in village huts and take part in communityactivities. Combine this with a visit to the nearbyTextile Factory.

Joshua Primary and Secondary SchoolHead out of Blantyre and into the hills for a uniquevisit to two government schools. Meet the teachersand children and see how one organisation is trying tosupport this area of Malawi through education andskills training.

Recycling Project-­ Thyolo Tea EstatesNchima Recycling ProjectAmidst the rolling tea fields is a small communitypaper recycling project. Spend a few hours helpingthe women make recycled paper and learn about howthey earn a living from selling their recycled cardsand gifts.

Traditional Boat YardSpend a few hours with Joseph and his team of traditionalwooden boat builders. This lakeside boatyard offers afascinating insight into the challenges facing traditionaltrades and the future of small fishing communities alongthe shores of Lake Malawi.

Mount MulanjeOrphan Care Centre Spend the afternoon at thiswonderful community orphan care centre in the foothills ofMulanje Mountain. This after school centre is run bycommunity volunteers and provides vulnerable childrenwith after school activities and a warm meal.

United Nations Millennium Villages ProjectZomba District Take a guided tour around the UNMillennium Villages Project. See how the MillenniumDevelopment Goals are being met and learn about thefuture of this rural community. Finish by eating atraditional Malawian lunch with the local chief.

Ntchisi Forest, Central MalawiHillside Community ProjectsStay at Ntchisi Forest Lodge and spend a few daysexploring local communities, share your skills, learn how tocook Malawian food, help to conserve the rainforest orteach in the village school. The Responsible Safari CompanyBooking Conditions

* Please read the booking conditions contained herein carefully. The following conditions will form part of your contract.

All bookings must be confirmed in writing, whereby this confirmation is taken as an acceptance of the terms and conditions as laid out below. A booking will be considered firm when the deposit or fullpayment has been received by and accepted by The Responsible Safari Company Ltd. and a confirmation invoice issued, showing the balance due. The person who signs the booking form does soon behalf of all persons named on the booking form and all are subject to these conditions. If for any reason we are not able to accept your booking your deposit will be returned in full.

Payment is accepted by International Bank Transfer in US$. For bookings made within 28 days of departure full payment will be accepted. The final balance is due 12 weeks prior to departure or asshown on your invoice. If not paid by the said date your booking may be subject to cancellation by us and liable to full cancellation charges as shown on your invoice. Special requests should beindicated on the booking form at the time of booking or made in writing. We will try to meet all special requests, but cannot guarantee their availability, nor will we be liable if any special request is notfulfilled.TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS PRICEPrices quoted in our literature are based on tariffs, costs and taxes current at the time we went to print, often many months before the travel season. Whilst The Responsible Safari Company Ltdmakes strenuous efforts to adhere to the prices quoted in our literature or advertising, we reserve the right to notify you of any increase in the literature oradvertised price before accepting your booking. After a confirmation invoice has been issued, the price of your travel arrangements is subject to surcharges on or in relation to the following items;increase in transportation costs (including fuel and airfares) Governmental action, exchange rate variations, overlying charges and fees chargeable for services (including land taxes and embarkationor disembarkation fees at ports and airports). Only amounts in excess of 2% will be surcharged. However where a surcharge is payable, there will be an administration charge. Surcharges will benotified by a supplementary invoice sent to you. If a surcharge increases the total Travel Arrangements price shown on your original confirmation invoice by more than 12%, you may cancel yourbooking within 7 days of the date of issue of the supplementary invoice and obtain a full refund of all payments made to The Responsible Safari Company, except for Travel Insurance and anyamendment charges previously incurred. You may choose to pay for your Travel Arrangements in full at the time of booking, in which case the price will be fixed at the cost quoted by TheResponsible Safari Company Ltd. at that time. To take advantage of this benefit you should return the confirmation invoice to The Responsible Safari Company Ltd with full payment to reach uswithin 7 days of the date shown on the confirmation. Should the value of the £ strengthen, we will not be able to reduce Travel Arrangements prices as all Travel Arrangements will have been pre-booked by us at the prevailing rate at that time.LIABILITYPlease be aware that these terms include limitations on the liability of The Responsible Safari Company and its obligations relating to any Travel Arrangements and certain exclusions of TheResponsible Safari responsibility The Responsible Safari Company Ltd operates all reasonable checks to ensure that everybody involved in making your Travel Arrangements maintainthe appropriate standards. However, for any matters causing loss or damage to any being or belongings where the liability falls on a third party The Responsible Safari Company Ltd. acceptsno liability.

The Responsible Safari Company Ltd. shall offer when possible (and without prejudice) prompt general assistance to any client who through mishap suffers difficulty, illness, personal injury or deathduring their Travel Arrangements with us, and arising out of an activity which does not form part of the Travel Arrangements that The Responsible Safari Company Ltd. has confirmed. Luggage,valuables and all other personal effects are at all times and in all circumstances at your risk unless and to the extent that loss or damage is proved to have been caused by The Responsible SafariCompany negligence. Nothing in these conditions excludes or limits The Responsible Safari Company liability for its duty to exercise diligence in making arrangements for your Travel or itsliability save as set out above. If The Responsible Safari Company Ltd makes any payment of compensation or financial assistance to you or any other individual named on the booking form inrespect of any loss, damage, injury, illness or death caused by any other person then The Responsible Safari Company Ltd will be entitled to be subrogated to the rights of such person. This meansthat The Responsible Safari Company Ltd will be entitled to claim in place of you or that individual person against the person responsible (up to the amount paid by us) and that you and eachindividual agrees to assign the relevant part of their rights to us to enable us to do so.

When you use such facilities or services (e.g. when you are carried by a particular airline) the standard terms and conditions of such supplier will apply to you. Such conditions, some of which will limit or exclude liability in certain circumstances, and which may be subject to international conventions between countries.

* Please read the booking conditions contained herein carefully. The following conditions will form part of your contract.

CANCELLATION OR ALTERATION BY YOUIf you wish to cancel or amend your booking The Responsible Safari Company Ltd. will make every effort to assist you. Requests for amendment or cancellation must be in writing, and confirmed by the same individual as on the original confirmation. Amendments received and made 60 days before departure will incur an amendment charge of £40 per booking, plus any communication charge or other expenses incurred by The Responsible Safari Company Ltd. If you cancel your booking, the following general scale of cancellation charges will be payable based on the number of days prior to departure that written notice of cancellation is received at our office.

(In certain circumstances cancellation charges may differ. If this is the case the charges will be clearly shown on your confirmation invoice and these will take precedence over the charges shownhere).

The Responsible Safari Company are unable to make any allowances for accommodation, meals or other services not utilised by you during your Travel Arrangements. Furthermore, no refund canbe made for travel tickets lost, destroyed or mislaid. If you are unable to take your Travel Arrangements because of illness, redundancy, unavoidable commitments at work, jury service, death orillness of a close member of the family, it may be possible to transfer your Travel Arrangements to a person acceptable to The Responsible Safari Company Ltd. You must request the transfer inwriting at least 30 days in advance and prior to ticket issue. Your request for a transfer must be accompanied by documentary proof of the reason for the transfer, complete details of the personreplacing you and written confirmation that your replacement agrees to be bound by the terms and conditions listed. The administration fee will be £80 per person plus any charges levied by thesuppliers. It is important to note that airlines sometimes charge a 100% cancellation fee in addition to the cost of a new ticket.

CANCELLATION OR ALTERATION BY THE RESPONSIBLE SAFARI COMPANY LTDThe Responsible Safari Company Ltd has made every effort to ensure that the information, description and prices quoted in its literature are accurate at the time of printing. The Responsible SafariCompany Ltd reserves the right to advise you of any change, including any price changes, before accepting your booking. After a confirmation invoice has been issued, The Responsible SafariCompany Ltd. makes every effort to operate the Travel Arrangements as printed in the literature. On some rare occasions The Responsible Safari Company Ltd may have to modify a TravelArrangement prior to your departure. If the modification is significant i.e. change of flight time by more than 15 hours, a change of international airport (except between airports serving the same citye.g. Heathrow and Gatwick) a change of destination or a change to lower standard of accommodation, The Responsible Safari Company Ltd will advise you as soon as practicably possible. You mayor may not accept the modification. However, if you cancel and receive a full refund following a significant modification made for any reason other than Force Majeure, you will receive the followingcompensation, depending on the length of time before the date of departure that you are informed of the change.

Force Majeure means unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond The Responsible Safari Company control, the consequences of which neither The Responsible Safari Company Ltdnor its suppliers could avoid, including but not limited to war, threat of war, riot, civil strife, terrorist activity (actual or threatened), industrial dispute, hostilities, political unrest, Government action orairport regulations, natural or other disaster, nuclear incident, weather conditions, technical problems with transportation, closure of airports, fire, flood, drought, temporary technical breakdown in anhotel or apartment. If there is a minor modification before your departure (any change not included in the definition of a significant modification as set out above) The Responsible Safari Company Ltdwill notify you, although it is not obliged to do so, nor is it obliged to pay any compensation. If you fail to pay the balance of the Travel Arrangements price at least 12 weeks (84 days) beforedeparture or as shown on your invoice, we hold the right to treat your booking as cancelled and levy the cancellation charges set out in Clause 2 above. If The Responsible Safari Company Ltd hasto cancel your Travel Arrangements in any other circumstances before your departure The Responsible Safari Company Ltd will do its best to offer you Travel Arrangements of a comparablestandard or will give you a full refund.

* Please read the booking conditions contained herein carefully. The following conditions will form part of your contract.

Travel InsuranceUnder current EC regulations we are obliged to ensure that you are adequately covered with travel insurance at the time of travel. Please seek adequate cover or consult The Responsible SafariCompany for advice. However, when taking out cover we strongly recommend that you read all the small print since some conditions and activities may be excluded.

Safari Wildlife Habitat IndemnitiesAs part of your travel arrangements you may have elected to visit such areas as, National Parks, Private Game Reserves or Wildlife Habitats. In these areas there may be wild animals or potentiallydangerous situations. You should be aware that in the majority of these areas you may well be asked to sign an indemnity indemnifying the principals and their agents against such occurrences asinjury or death in the event of any accidents. Whilst every reasonable care will be taken by the safari lodge or activity owners to avoid any mishaps, accidents can happen. In most instances if theseindemnity forms are not signed on arrival the safari lodge or activity operator may not allow you to take part in such activities or game drives, bush walks, riding or rafting etc. If you would be unhappyto sign such an indemnity then please carefully consider your choice of holiday. Your confirmation of your booking to The Responsible Safari Company Ltd. accepts your responsibility on behalf ofyourself and all others to comply with these conditions.

Airport DelaysThe Responsible Safari Company Ltd uses the scheduled times of the major international airlines. These are rarely subject to lengthy delays. In the unlikely event that this does happen,responsibility for arrangement for meals, overnight accommodation etc., will rest with the airline.

GroupsOn Group bookings we reserve the right to exclude from group activities, or in serious cases, send home anyone who places any member of the group in danger because of his/her actions or whocauses problems or severe discord amongst the group. Where rooming companions are requested (same gender) The Responsible Safari Ltd group tours, although we will do our best to find asuitable companion with a similar background and interests, it will be at your request and we therefore cannot be held responsible for any clashes of personality etc.

Travel DocumentsWhilst offering all possible advice and assistance all passport, visa and health certificate requirements are your responsibility and The Responsible Safari Company Ltd accept no responsibility forany delay or expense incurred through any irregularity in your documents. You are advised to consult The Responsible Safari Company Ltd for exact details if uncertain.

If you have a problemIf you are unhappy with any of the arrangements made by The Responsible Safari Company Ltd on your behalf while you are on your travels, you should inform The Responsible Safari CompanyLtd, the Hotel or our representative or other supplier whose services are involved, so that they will have an opportunity to correct the matter during your stay. If you fail to do so, any rights you mayhave will be reduced. If any problem cannot be resolved locally and you wish to complain, full details must be sent to The Responsible Safari Company Ltd in writing within 21 days of your return fromyour Travels. Disputes arising out of, or in connection, with this contract which cannot be settled amicably, may be referred to arbitration.
