Identity statement

My love of travel began with fifteen hundred dollars in my bank account, a working holiday visa fixed firmly into my passport and the belief that I would cover as much of the European continent as physical possible. I was twenty, my money lasted two months and I’d managed to see one corner of one country.

Since then, I’ve managed to fit my love of travel around my working life. After a baptism of fire limping my way around Europe and the United Kingdom in my early twenties I have travel elsewhere extensively and have worked as a travel consultant in various forms and for varying companies ever since.

I seek to combine my passion for travel and my industry knowledge into a successful career as a travel journalist offering travel advice, travel tips, sharing travel stories and generating discussions via social media.

Identity statement continued…

My interest in professional writing was honed whilst majoring in journalism for a Bachelor of Communications degree, an interest that is being honed further still with a Master of Communication.

I offer honest, trustworthy and matter of fact travel advice as well as humorous travelling stories of my own. I haven’t “found myself” through travel, I travel for fun and adventure, for good food and the occasional horrible food, for the good times and the inevitable bad times. All to be shared with a growing network of readers.

Strategies and content

- Main content is travel advice, travel tips and sharing of personal travel stories. - Have used Twitter as the main platform for engagement. - Twitter will be used to generate discussion around travel and specifically be a focus for

sharing travel tips.- Instagram will feature photographs of places I have travelled to give weight to the

experience aspect of my identity. - Will direct readers to Blogger via Twitter to highlight personal travel stories and more in-

depth travel information.- Will post at varying times of the day with a focus on evenings to capture people using social

media after their working days.- Tone will be conversational and closed initially moving towards open once identity is more

established.- Target audience is people who like to research and read about travel prior to undertaking

their own, be they first time travelers or more experienced. - The tone and language used in my blog will see me direct myself towards an audience in

their twenties to forties.- Would appeal to organisations such as Lonely Plant or TripAdvisor.

Evidence of another platform

I have used the platform of Instagram to share photos of places I have previously travelled too.

Instagram is a photo and video sharing social network with a global reach. The platform allows me to link my posts to my Twitter account by the inclusion of my hashtag #travelsbyjac

The use of Instagram alongside Twitter allows me to extend my identity via different networks whilst continually bulking up my online presence.
