Sedona History The history of Sedona does not have it's roots in Sedona... Instead the story had it's beginnings in Oak Creek Canyon. It was first named Indian Gardens between 1862 and 1876 by J.J. Thompson. Next it was called Camp Garden and then, finally called Sedona. A gentleman by the name of T.C. Schnebly named the town Sedona as he was looking for a/the name for the first post office. 4.
