Angela O'Hara, a Canadianartist, educator, and social entrepreneur,has been traveling to the Upper Amazon ofPeru for the past six years. Havingoriginally come to the Amazon to dofieldwork for her PhD on indigenousknowledge and visionary art practices ofPucallpa, she has focused her work inexploring new and visionarymethodologies in creative research andcultural innovation.

"We need a radical change in how weimagine our relationship to the Earth­­onethat can create a more sustainable and andprosperous life for all of us in thefuture. Indigenous wisdom can teach ushow to see and understand our worlddifferently. This disappearing knowledgemay hold the key to our survival on thisplanet."

Pucallpa city tour and and pusanga workshop (Amazonian flower essence magic).

Visit to Santa Clara revitalization project and evening ayahuasca ceremony.                    Visit to Shipibo village San Francisco for ceramics and cosmovision workshop.                Travel to Santuario Huishtin shamanic center and visit the boiling river. Banosfloriciemonto (floral bath) workshop and evening ayahuacsa ceremomy.

D A Y 1 : M O R N I N G :

P U C A L L P A

Monday morning, you will be collected at theCaptain Rolden airport in Pucallpa and brought tothe Manish Ecological Hotel, a peaceful greenoasis, where you can relax after your trip.  After adelicious lunch of regional fare at the hotelrestaurant, we will meet for an orientation and todiscuss the week's itinerary. We will also have thechance to connect and share our stories andintentions and expectations for the week to come.

D A Y 1 : A F T E R N O O N

C I T Y T O U RAfter our meeting, we will head off toexplore the bustling city of Pucallpa,including a tour of the bustling waterfrontand central plaza. We will also visit theshaman's market. There we will also havea special pusanga workshop to learn thepreparation of perfumes made frommagical Amazonian plants that bring loveand luck to the wearer. Following we will enjoy a traditional Amazonian fish supperat a local restaurant.

D A Y 2 : M O R N I N G

S A N T A C L A R AThe next morning we will gather atfor breakfast at the hotel beforeheading to Yarinacocha to visit thehumanitarian organization, AlianzaArkana, for a presentation abouttheir Santa Clara revitalizationproject. Following we will boardpeka­pekas and travel by theUcayali river to the Shipibo villageof Santa Clara where we will learnabout local traditions such fishingand farming practices. We will alsovolunteer on their communitypermaculture gardens where wewill learn about their use of nativeplants and visit their interculturalschool where children are taughtlocal traditions and language andbeliefs as part of their schoolcurriculum. 

D A Y 2 : A F T E R N O O N

For lunch, we will be honoured bya specially prepared communityfeast of patarasca or fresh fishsteamed in banana leaves. Wemay even sample some pirahna!After lunch we will relax and laterregroup for a meditation andgrounding practice in preparationfor our first Ayahuasca ceremonythat evening with Shipiboshaman, Juan Rocco in thevillage maloca.

D A Y 3 : M O R N I N G

S A N F R A N C I S C OThe next morning, we will havebreakfast in the community centerin Santa Clara and agroup integration circle about ourexperiences the night before. After making our goodbyes, wewill then visit the neighboringShipibo village of San Franciscoto learn about the ancient practiceof slip cast Shipibo pottery as wellas the fascinating meaningsunderlying the mysterious Shipiboquene design patterns. We willalso have the chance to buy someunique souvenirs there and at thenearby embroidery market,including materials for our “Mesa”project.   

D A Y 3 : A F T E R N O O N

Returning from our boat ride from SantaFrancisco, we will have lunch at a floatingrestaurant in the port of Yarinacocha. Wewill also have the chance to visit other localartisan workshops and learn about theunique Amazonian cuisine. That evening wewill return to the Manish Hotel to relax andrecuperate with a free evening.

D A Y 4 M O R N I N G

S A N T U A R I OWe will rise early and regroup at thehotel restaurant where we will takebreakfast before heading off to thePucallpa central market to purchasesupplies. Our destination: SantuarioHuishtin, a traditional plant medicinecenter situated in the rainforest. Thisjourney will take approximately fivehours involving a 2.5 hour down acountry road to the village of Honoria.From there we will take a 20 minuteboat ride by motorized canoe down thebeautiful Pachitea river followed by avigorous jungle walk to SantuarioHuishtin (45 minutes).  

D A Y 4 A F T E R N O O N

S A N T U A R I OThere we will see an extraordinarysite: the thermal river Shanay­timpiska(heated­by­the sun), a geologicalworld wonder.  We will be welcomedby Maestro Santiago Enrrique ParedesMelendez his wife and curandera,Ayme, and the lovely family atSantuario Huishtin traditional plantmedicine center. There we will takelunch and relax before exploring theriver and center grounds. Later thatafternoon we will gather at the volcanicplaza for a meditation and later tolearn how to prepare abaño floricimiento or floral bath inpreparation of that evening’sayahuasca ceremony. That evening at8pm, we will convene at the maloca toparticipate in ceremony.

D A Y 5 M O R N I N G

The next day you are invited to rest afterceremony. We will have breakfast of teas,cereals and yummy rainforest fruits and relaxin the serenity of Santuario.  Later thatmorning, we will reconnect and have anintegration circle about our experiences thenight before and a grounding meditation.  

D A Y 5 A F T E R N O O N

That afternoon we will enjoy a fascinatingintroduction to Vegetalismo (plant spiritshamanism) with Maestro SantiagoEnrrique followed by a workshop to learnthe preparation of five uniquely powerfultraditional Amazonian medicines toprotect and strengthen the body. Afterlunch we will gather again to have aanother workshop on how to create apersonal "mesa" (magic alter) with themedicine materials we collected in SantaClara, San Francisco and the markets inPucallpa.

D A Y 6 M O R N I N G

The following morning we will gather earlyafter breakfast for our botanical safari in therainforest where we will learn to identifymany medicinal plants and trees and theiruses in traditional medicine and magic underthe guidance of the Maestro.

After our rainforest walk, we will enjoy lunchand some time for relaxation. Later we willconnect for another meditation in preparationfor our last ayahuasca ceremony.

In the morning, we will gather for abreakfast integration meeting andthen we'll say goodbye to thisunique and magical place andembark on our journey back toPucallpa.

After an afternoon of traveling, wearrive back at our hotel in Pucallpa toenjoy a little refreshment before wewill meet for lunch at the restaurantand a final group gathering to talkabout our insights and experiences.Finally, you will be thanked with a finalparting surprise gift to take away as asouvenir of your adventure in theAmazon!

Proceeds from our intensives will be investedin the building of our centre and conservation of the

surrounding threatened rainforest.
