CENTRAL PARK INTRODUCTION
Central park is a very extensive park where you can do all types of things like playing frisbi, seeing animals, rest a little bit… Of
course, above all things, Central Park is a park, so there are plenty of attractions that focus on physical activities and other fun pastimes. Two skating rinks, a carousel, a public swimming
pool, baseball fields, tennis courts and other sport attractions are scattered throughout the park.
CENTRAL PARK HISTORYThe park initially opened in 1857.
In 1858, Frederick Law Olmstedand Calvert Vaux won a designcompetition to improve andexpand the park. Constructionbegan the same year, continuedduring the American CivilWar, and was completed in1873.
Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1962, the park is currently managed by the Central Park Conservancy under contract with the city government

INTERESTING FACTS
The Swedish Cottage (Swedish country house) hides a Puppet Theatre which offers functions for children.
The lamps, designed by Henry Bacon, are numbered in the streets adjacent to its location. If you are, for example, near lamp number 6298, means you are at the height of 62th Street.
There is a secret garden, not accessible to the public.
They say that under the Central Park there are underground caves used during World War II, designed for purposes of the Manhattan Project. They have been top secret for many years and could accommodate over 14,000 people.
It has 125 drinking fountains and 7 for decoration.
