Bottom Fishing www.fishfishme.com
What is it?
Bottom fishing refers to the most common of the fishing
techniques, used to catch fish that are found near the sea
floor. Large predatory fish like the Grouper, Halibut and the
Red snapper are caught using this method.
Bottom fishing can be done from a boat and also from the
land using either handlines or rods.
The main aim of this technique is to take the bait to the
bottom of the sea and present it in a tempting way to the
fish and to lure them into the hook.
The fishing line is led by a heavy lead sinker that is
followed by the bait and the hook.
The heavy sinker is used to help in casting the bait away
and deep into the sea floor.
The Grouper is usually caught using
the bottom fishing technique named
as the fish finder rig.
This fish prefers to stay unnoticed
and ambush its prey, one behaviour
pattern that makes it most
vulnerable to sport fishermen.
The Halibut is a flat fish with
a dark brown hued top and
an off-white belly.
When bottom fishing for
Halibuts you should use a
good sinker to let your bait
sink to the bottom .
Once the Halibut takes the
bait you shouldn’t yank the
line for you will lose the fish.
Catching a fierce Red
Snapper is taken up as a
challenge by many sport
fishermen.
When fishing for Red
Snappers make sure to
use a heavy sinker that
will hold on in the heavy
currents.
Make sure to reel is fast
when Red Snapper takes
the bait to keep it from
running off to cover or
from cutting your line.
