Artistic Policy The purpose of the festival is turn on the

lights in Blackpool to celebrate light as Blackpool is famous for it’s lights. The lights will shine for 66 days and nights non stop. It brings about 3.5 billion people to Blackpool making a big money spinner for the area.

Programme There is a big switching on of the entire

lighting of Blackpool and the switch is thrown by a celebrity. Last year the switch was thrown by Matt Smith (the 11th Doctor). When all the lights are turned on, the town celebrate by singing, dancing, drinking and lots more.

Funding The illuminations is all paid for by the

counsel in Blackpool. They provide the money to decorate the town with lights and they get the money back by increasing the tax’s for that area. Clever!

Target Audience The target audience for this is

everybody. From any part of the word of any age everybody is welcomed to the event. The people of Blackpool are the ones who benefit from it most as they will have glorious lights for a while to come. Billions of people come to Blackpool so the audience is such a wide variety.
